Plowing Snow with the John Deere G

  • Today I went over the dry farm again with the G to where we are going to have the cattle in a week. There was only a few inches of fresh snow, so it wasn't too bad for the little old two-cylinder. Also briefly shows driving a Model A and Model 2010 Utility. Filmed with a GoPro Hero HD 2, head mount.

Do your dogs always act as "chase planes" when you are out on the tractors? They sure cut it close, "doggin" (like dodging, but different!) in and out, like they know where you're going. They certainly get a good run in this way. How many miles do you think you groomed on the course that day while the dogs were with you?

That brings back alot of memories, the uneven 2 cylinder beat, the snow, and the dogs escorting the tractor. I plowed the snow in our farmyard and on the road to our other farm, we had a model 60 JD with a JD 45 loader on it. We had a wide blade on front with extention mounts on it to set the blade at an angle.

Lee Peterson i am 50 years old i remember my dad who is now 75 outside pushing snow with the 1948 A John Deere i used to sit inside and watch out the window and listen to it work hard oh it sounded so good. i went and purchased a 1950 A john deere and a 1951 B with a 45 loader on it and we just got 14 inches i could not wait to fire it up and plow. its sounds just like i rember even better cause i am driving it. i just love them tractors i went and purchaed 20 acres in northern mn by my parents now i have a plow and square baler and disc and drag. pushing snow on my small farm now next spring i will be plowing with the A John Deere. its a dream come true and my dad comes out and helps great time spent with him and burning gas in my 2 cylinder tractors.

hearing and the put put dont go together in the same sentence. grew up on a two banger and i have less than half hearing in my left ear from that put put from looking over my right shoulder while plowing, mowing, swathing etc. etc. but it was fun while it lasted. the days of no cab no sun roof and no hearing protection

I noticed you standing on that tractor. I stood a lot on Daddy’s G, l practically grew up on his G. Great tractor, noticed it was working pretty hard going up that big hill. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, you tend to do that on the old two cylinders for some reason. I think the platforms were designed that way... Thanks for watching!

The mennens made 1 of these along with a 620 b0th w wide front. Th£ 'g' was older (1941) w/ the grid front not th£ cylinder front and the 620 w loader was newer (1959) had this image of sitting in the home with b0th them stitch in head visor. co-al fr!

Amazing JD "Johnny Popper" upload! I'm watching your beautiful tractor footage while playing Native American Indian Meditation music at the same time. At age 59, I'm instantly rocked back to the early 60's on my Choctaw Grandpa's Oklahoma spread ('bout 4 miles out of Muskogee). I'd ride up top with him on his JD Model A Narrow Wheel. Thought it was the biggest best "Adult Tricycle" in the World!

That looks like many of the areas I saw while driving in Michigan and Indiana this past weekend. Some areas in Northern Arkansas looked like your fields also and I know you have a field for storing your equipment. I have a John Deere 790 tractor and if we got plenty of snow I would have a blade like the one you have on in my inventory. I do have a box blade for the type of work which I have to do though.

I live in Grapevine, Arkansas and did live in Saginaw, Michigan also. I purchased a new PTO driven tiller to use to make a garden, but with the deer, rabbits, and other animals in the yard all the time I may have to rethink that idea.

A G would pull 3-16 plow on heavy soil or 4-14 plow on light soil with high dome pistons. 5 hours on a tank of fuel when plowing. If you are rebuilding one. check the seam on the gas fill tube burned one up with a leaking one.

I grew up in Michigan. My g grandfather died in March of 1947. There was a snow blizzard night before the funeral. Relatives had to put his coffin on a wagon and pulled the wagon up into the cemetery with a John Deere A. What a way to go out. I used the G and the As on our 1200 acre farm. We also had a black sheep dog. Our dog did the same thing. She would go around and around in the field. Regards...
