A drive through Steel Lake Park in Federal Way, Washington on Sunday July 9th, 2017. Lots of people BBQ'ing and having fun, park was almost at capacity, with a heavy Police presence.

Looking at moving from N. Virginia and retiring there. Is Federal Way a high crime area? Looking at Lacey, Olympia and Federal Way. Too expensive in the Bellevue and Redmond Neighborhoods. Retired military senior officer and soon to retire again with current job. Thanks for sharing videos.

I like the West Hill of Auburn ( which borders Federal Way ) and Federal Way as it is located in between Seattle and Tacoma with easy I-5 and airport access. If you look at the crime stats Federal Way may rate higher and get some bad press but there are real nice areas of Federal Way that are much more affordable than Bellevue and Redmond. Lacey and Olympia is nice and growing rapidly but too far away from Seattle and Tacoma for me and you'll still have crime problems there. Basically it seems crime is everywhere. Just check out the area that you plan to live in real well and drive by there or spend an hour or two checking it at night too before you move in. There are some pockets of all areas that are much worse and much better than others. Even Bellevue has some bad parts.
