Just a couple of thoughts: It's helpful to have a watch that has an alarm on it for the cruise. It doesn't need to be expensive, just reliable. Because the internet is sooo expensive on the ship, you might want to keep track of how long you've been on. Also, be certain that your watch and any bedroom alarms are set to the ships time. No matter where you may be in the world, the correct current time is always the ship's time. Try to check your time with the ship's time every now and then because it is very, very important. Sometimes it's easy to lose track of time when in a favorite port. If you are with a group affiliated with your cruise line and your group is late to get back to the ship, the ship will wait for you. However, if you go off the ship on your own and you are late, the ship will not wait for you. And that's on you.
One important thing about travel medical insurance is that you need to purchase it within 14 days of your first payment for the trip because otherwise you don't get the pre existing condition waiver, which I would guess most 65+ have.
AMEN TO BONNIE BERGSTEIN'S POST!!! PLEASE PROVIDE SINGLES A WAY TO CRUISE WITH STUDIO CABINS OR A WHOLE SHIP FOR SINGLE TRAVELLER'S!!! THERE ARE NOT OPPORTUNITIES FOR TRAVELING SOLO AND IT IS NOT COMFORTABLE TO BOOK ROOMS ON SINGLES CRUISES WITH PEOPLE YOU HAVE NEVER MET!!!
Also, I suggest investigating tours offered by private tour companies well in advance of your trip. They're always cheaper than the cruise line and I've found them all to be extremely professional. You can even purchase tickets for hop on hop off busses or water taxis throughout Europe right on your computer for very little money if you don't want a structured tour. Don't be concerned about getting to your private tour either. Most are happy to pick you up and drop you back at the port or your hotel. Another reason not to book through the ship is that they are often large groups, so for instance when the bus stops at a rest stop there are several bus loads headed for the same restroom.
Any advice on getting a good deal on a single supplement? I've been on many cruises, usually with friends, but now many of my friends can't travel anymore - I still want to go cruising! I used to be ok with a tiny, inside cabin - now I like a balcony!! Sometimes I get mailings from the cruise lines that offer 2nd person in a cabin travels for a reduced fare (or free), but they still insist on 2 in a cabin (to use those deals). I know some ships have single cabins, dome are small, inside - but I have seen that the HAL Konigsdam has a single ocean view cabin, and Cunard has some single cabins with balconies - but no good deals on those cruises. I understand that they want the extra money for the tips for the cabin steward, but I always tip well when I get good service (and I usually need wheelchair assist, or rent a mobility scooter while I am cruising, so I always take extra tip money with me)! I really miss going on cruises, but can't afford to pay the price for 2 passengers, when I know I will be traveling solo!
bonnie bergstein This past spring I sailed on Royal's Anthem. It was booked when my husband was going to travel. He had some health issues and cancelled. When I asked if there were any smaller cabins with a balcony, a Super Studio was recommended. It is comfortable for one (two is possible but will be tight). The balcony though is HUGE and there is *no* single supplement/ The package even included a $100 ship credit. Search UA-cam for Anthem's sister ship "Quantum Super Studio." I wish the other cruise lines would get behind the solo traveler. Let's keep asking!
Don't know if this has been mentioned but, the IMODIUM hint is great! We had the unfortunate incident of getting diarrhea on the 2nd day of the cruise and the even more unfortunate case of going to the desk to ask for Imodium. To make a long story short - the Dr. put us on a 1 day room-only quarantine and we missed an excursion. Later on we found out that a friend that was travelling on the same Cruise had Imodium. LOL *Most cellphones have flashlight's on them... *No drinks on the Dance Floor! *If you want to pay a lot more for your Cruise - frequent the on-board Casino. If you don't want to pay more for your Cruise - do not go to the Casino.

Have you heard people talk about - Kenandon Studify Sechenov - (do a search on google )? It is a good one of a kind guide for discovering how to have a magnetic hold over women without the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my m8 got amazing success with it.

Along with your first aid kit I recommend Sea Bands and anti sickness pills. We have needed them on quite a few occasions!
