No wonder the painting resembles other paintings by him. I worked when demanded by my boss at New York University in the main building when the janitor who worked there went on vacation. It was townhouse number 3 on Washington Square Park on the north side by University Place. It was a private house when Edward Hopper lived there from the 1920s til the 1960s. New York University is the biggest landlord in Greenwich Village but the disdain I have for them is another story for another day!

It takes me back to the summer of 2008 in Wildwood, New Jersey. I was 20 years old and was working in an amusement park on the pier by the beachside. There was this girl also working in the park which I was pretty fond of, I was waiting for breaks and closing time to talk with her and walk her home. Sometimes during the day it would rain and they'd shut down the park for an hour or so. In those moments we were waiting in the break room together, chatting, laughing. It was raining outside, similar music was in the background inside. This concept made me remember those sweet moments. Thank you very much...
My dad was born in 1933 in the US, my mom 1944 in UK. I was born in 1983. I have fond memories of driving around with my dad in my youth listening to 40s music on the AM dial. It's been 18 years since he passed.
My mother was born on a farm in 1934. With no electricity, they drove the pick up truck close to the window, attached the radio wires to the battery cable to listen to music and the Joe Louis fights. What a hard time and way to live, but all 10 kids helped my grandparents with farm and family and they all became solid citizens and lived wonderful lives due to hard work and an unbreakable bond. I’m so glad my parents raised me to appreciate this music through movies and records. I always felt I should have lived in this generation. It really speaks to me and provides such peace.
There's something about this era and style of artists and all the big band music that makes me sad. It's almost like I miss it. It was decades before I was even thought of, let alone born, but it's the purest form of cultural nostalgia, and even though I technically can't, I miss it. I tear up just listening to this.
I believe the reason ppl of all ages enjoy this type of music is because we all yearn for a time of morals and a simpler time, when life was not so fast paced.
The 1940s were pretty rough for most folks. I think that’s an important reminder that we tend to valorize the past…even when the present is better in most ways.
I'm a 17 year old from Africa in Zambia just feeling the cosy music sometimes I feel like I was born in the wrong country but still thankful for who I am

My grandpa was born in 1911; he would have been in his 30s in the 1940s. I can picture him listening to this type of music. As he grew older he used to sit in his room listening to records every day all night long. He died in the late 1990s when I was in my early 20s. May he rest in peace and I hope he's enjoying good music wherever he's at.

I'm missing my Grandma who passed away a couple of years ago. She embodied this music and this era. She passed at the ripe old age of 94. Thank you for keeping this format and music alive. Listening to this I can just imagine my grandma and grandpa in heaven dancing. Oh how they loved to dance, they would dance to records any chance they could even into their 70's. I don’t usually comment on anything… but I’ve found myself come back to this mix time and time again, especially when I’m having trouble sleeping. I was born in the 90s and feel like I shouldn’t have any connection to this music, but I do. I do a lot of solo camping as well, and will put this on when I’m alone in the tent at night. Things get a bit weird at night out there sometimes… but this puts my mind at ease. Bless all of you reading this! May this music fill your soul with warmth like it does for me.
Had some sad stressful stuff happen today and wanted to find a soundtrack to just relax to that would not trigger any negative emotions. Stumbled across this and it's *perfect*. Thank you.
I hadn't been born when this music was made, yet, as soon as the singing began, my chin started to quiver and I wanted to cry as if i miss those years. Very strange feeling.
I grew up in a household where it was just me, my mother and my grandparents. Music from the 40s through to the 80s was what I grew up on. I often get sad knowing I'll never get to experience it for myself. I'm sure kids in the future will be saying the same about today - the music, the style, the simplicity of this era in contrast to whatever awaits us in the next 50 years or so. But one thing I love about this era of music is the overwhelming sense of calm and peace. It was classy, uplifting and optimistic. When I listen to it, I embrace the moment and often find peace of mind for a moment. The world and life overall doesn't seem to fly by as quickly when I listen to this music. I feel I can breathe again.
I’m 20 but I grew up on this kind of music because my father was born In the 50s and this is virtually the only kind of music he listens to, it’s such a nostalgic and warm feeling to hear this. I miss those days being a little girl riding in the car listening to old classics with my daddy. He’s still alive but life just isn’t how it used to be, so the happiness and pain I feel from listening to this is real. Cherish the moments you have with loved ones, as soon you will only have sweet memories to remind you of a time that no longer exists. Nowwww I’m bawling.
Man... I love this kind of music. It brings peace to my soul and always brought me back to a time that I don't even know where it came from. It makes me remember something that I can't even remember.
Im a young guy but i can understand that the oldies seemed to be good enjoyable times. It seems a lot sifferent then it is today, and I wish i was able to see it. Hope you have a good day/night friend!
This music is one of THE best! It makes me feel like I'm in the era I've always wanted to experience; reading a wonderful book by the fireplace and feeling all cozy with a cat napping on my lap and a cup of coffee in my hand
Does this image remind anyone else of The Notebook? Looks like the porch of Noah's childhood home. They kinda look like Noah and Allie too! Makes it even sweeter :)
hey to you reading this 😊 whatever brings you here, whether it's to fall asleep or to relax from something stressful, i just wanted to let you know that everything will be fine. If you're going through a hard time right now, it's okay to remind yourself that this is temporary, and there are many good and relaxing days to come. You are an amazing person and the world is lucky to have someone like you in it. I hope only good things, love and strength will come your way. :)
I feel like I'm the only one in my generation who loves old music like this I'm a fan of new music too of course but I love the old days more in turning 21 soon ❤✌️
I've always been fascinated with the past I never lived in, but in a way it feels nostalgic because during middle and high school I would wear vintage inspired clothing and wear victory rolls in my hair and slept will rollers in my hair throughout my time in grade school, so listening to this music reminds me of the times I used to pretend I lived in 1940's. This has a deferent meaning for the feeling of innocence. I love reading everyone's comments by the way.
the songs take to a time more familiar even thought I never lived during the 1940s these songs make my soul feel at ease like returning to see an old friend. these songs make me feel at home in a my past that should of been my present. in short these songs make my old soul feel young again.
My dad was part of the Greatest Generation. He would listen to this type of music, some big band swing as well, and I fell in love with the sound. The sound made me fall in love with the thought of growing up back then. All the world's problems, but a simple solution to most. Sometimes, simple is best!

My grandparents adopted me, born in 1922 and 1928 then married in 1946. Grew up listening to a lot of this, now I miss them both so much! Thank you, this is wonderful❤️
For everyone who's not as old as this time but still feel nostalgia, we did tend to watch older movies with this kind of music in it. Hence the nostalgia towards it
I appreciate the effort you put into these videos. You pick amazing tunes. And polish it off with a nice rain . Oh, and your background photo is always beautiful too.
I am in the same boat as you, Josiah. And I think our romanticizing isn't exactly a figment of our imagination. There's something about that time of life that connects with us. That deep melancholy. That realization that how fully humans lived their lives and now they are just gone. People. Love. Heartbreak. Romance. Sadness. Pain. All of it. And we will be gone too. Soon. Fucking beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Love you, buddy. Take Care!
Yeah wow the 40s those must have been great times. Auschwitz, nukes, a good chance getting killed in the second world war; so sad we've missed that
Рік тому
It helps to stop romanticizing that period of time when you remind yourself that the whole world was then plunged into a bloody senseless world war, millions of innocents were being tortured and killed in horrid concentration camps, Pearl Harbor would be destroyed in 1941, the nuclear weapons would be used against civilians mid-1940s, and the world would never really heal from its wounds from that decade.
In some way I think it's so beautiful, because they didn't know what they had at the time. I think it's the knowledge that we can't go back there that makes it feel so beautiful, like a life seen through impenetrable glass. I think one day we'll be looked at in a similar way. Sure we'll be pathetic in certain ways, but we'll also be seen as the people who suffered through such strange and lonely times. "Look at their funny t-shirts" and "What weird dances!" they'll say, but they'll feel a mysterious wonder at the fact that this was what it was to be alive through this weird and painful time: to live... as us.
I wish I was a time traveler. There's so many periods in time that I want to see. Usually I have a specific era that I stick with, but lately it depends on my mood and my infatuation with a particular decade might change to another and that'll cause me to want to visit that point in time instead. For example, the 80s is usually my favorite decade to listen to music and watch movies. But sometimes I'm in a 40s/50s mood or even a 70s mood. Maybe one day we'll get our wish and be able to visit other times.
I always had a liking and a yearning for music from the early 40’s. I’m convinced I was born with an old spirit in my souls that provided me insights and wisdom beyond my years as I was growing up.
I have a huge passion for these times. Everything, the music, the buildings, the clothes, the cars. But I don't know if I would like to live them. Hearing this is so comforting, but I feel such a strong feeling that I can't listen to it normally.
LOVE LOVE LOVE ALL your posts!!!! I just discovered you yesterday and slept through the night for the first time in AGES!!! PROFUSE GRATITUDE!!! You are awesome!!
The intro to this playlist is just perfect. Also I listen to this at night in bed occasionally, it makes me wish there was a time machine I could go back to the 40s to. I was born in 1991 but I’m fascinated with decades gone by in the 20th century. I could meet my older relatives when they were very young and the ones that passed when I was a kid

My dad was born in 1933 in the US, my mom 1944 in UK. I was born in 1983. I have fond memories of driving around with my dad in my youth listening to 40s music on the AM dial. It's been 18 years since he passed.

@@michelmurphy7152 I’m in a similar situation
My mother was born on a farm in 1934. With no electricity, they drove the pick up truck close to the window, attached the radio wires to the battery cable to listen to music and the Joe Louis fights. What a hard time and way to live, but all 10 kids helped my grandparents with farm and family and they all became solid citizens and lived wonderful lives due to hard work and an unbreakable bond. I’m so glad my parents raised me to appreciate this music through movies and records. I always felt I should have lived in this generation. It really speaks to me and provides such peace.
Love the personal anecdotes that everyone shares in the comments section. They’re relaxing to scroll through and make me smile 😊
I have the same sensation... S2
There's something about this era and style of artists and all the big band music that makes me sad. It's almost like I miss it. It was decades before I was even thought of, let alone born, but it's the purest form of cultural nostalgia, and even though I technically can't, I miss it. I tear up just listening to this.
Glad I’m not the only one
I think it’s some past life stuff. I love 40s-50s early movie. Style, movies etc.
I thought 🤔 i was the only one that feels that way i guess not it's pretty cool to know that someone else feels this way God bless
I seriously thought I was the only one that felt this way.
It’s been termed anemoia
Born in 1998, i kinda feel a weird nostalgia for those times wich i don't belog to... love this music
born in 2006. same feeling
I believe the reason ppl of all ages enjoy this type of music is because we all yearn for a time of morals and a simpler time, when life was not so fast paced.
So true.
a time of morals??? it was the 1940s... the holocaust was happening... being gay was illegal... segregation was still enforced...
A time of morals? Morals are subjective and we still very much have them.
The 1940s were pretty rough for most folks. I think that’s an important reminder that we tend to valorize the past…even when the present is better in most ways.
It wasn't rough for a certain demographic. But that same demographic fought all the wars, paid all the taxes and built the cities we live in today
I'm a 17 year old from Africa in Zambia just feeling the cosy music sometimes I feel like I was born in the wrong country but still thankful for who I am

My grandparents have this as a picture on their wall, I remember it instantly.
Im a 23 years old guy from a village located somewhere in Poland and I feel nostalgia while listening to this music. Truly amazing experience, thank you for this ❣
I’m in the US. Love seeing comments like this from all over the world. This great music unites like minds across oceans. I wish the best for you, yours, and all of Poland.
My grandpa was a 20ys young man back in the 40s. He died peacefully with 94 in 2014. I like to listen to this and think of him, and his good old days.
Makes life feel a lot better drowns out the craziness in the world 🌎 BRING back 40s Music !!!
I just turned 56, but I've always been a nostalgic person who loves old black and white movies, the atmosphere of the 40s, 50s and 60s.
These music from other times revive my imagination and memories: it’s so beautiful.
Thank you for these moments of breath and relaxation. ❤

Whenever I listen to this music I get goosebumps. It sometimes makes me want to be in those retro times.
This is the best. Gives me all kinds of memories. As a Gen Xer, my dad and grandparents played this music all the time. Wish music was still like this.
I feel like I’m from this time but I wasn’t born yet. Born in the 80s…
Sooo soul-soothing. ❤❤❤❤ I fall asleep to this music.
I'm 35, and this music soothes me. I clean to it, read to it, sleep to it. It's much more preferable to me than "today's" music. Thank you, whoever you are, for the effort it takes to maintain this channel.
Same Boat. Similar Age. But I love the feeling of these music and makes me much more productive and relaxed
I’m 35 too. Love this stuff.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s but I appreciate this era very much. From a simpler time. Definitely a keeper.
born 1978....i still feel like i could remember the good ol times :)....nothing can ever be as good as the music of this era...good evening to y'all out there...be happy you ve earned it :)
Born in the early 50s, loving this genre of music, on a cold, rainy Winter's day, here in the Southern hemisphere, June 2023. An open log fire, happily "crackling" away in my sitting room.
A truly special era of Americana that will live in those who have a tie to it, which is slowly fading away. I'll stop typing so I can stop crying. Thanks again
The rain does it so much justice.
My toddler son sleeps to your music! ❤
Aww ❤️
@@sbg1911 Nemo’s Dreamscapes has been my go-to music every time my toddler has bad nights due to teething and leaps. Come to think of it, Nemo’s Dreamscapes has been my go-to music when I had insomnia during my pregnancy so maybe there’s a connection. :)

@@madavigo5986 Well done indeed. Transitive in time as well as space.
I hadn't been born when this music was made, yet, as soon as the singing began, my chin started to quiver and I wanted to cry as if i miss those years. Very strange feeling.
Reminds me of my Grandma ❤
I hear that 💯
I can almost hear the crackling and popping of the vinyl record as it played. The greatest generation indeed.
Music is SUPER! Reminds me listening to it in my Grandfathers' grocery store!
Which year and place this would be ? :)

Man... I love this kind of music. It brings peace to my soul and always brought me back to a time that I don't even know where it came from. It makes me remember something that I can't even remember.
Man, I love the way Nemo uses Hopper paintings. Hopper was a tremendous artist. He depicted the the first half of XX Century like nobody.
I'd like to dedicate this playlist to my late grandmother, Lagimaina posini ❤ 1918-2019 ❤

You mean see the world war that was going on? Yes, definitely good times back in those days, but also a lot of very bad and depressing times.

Beautiful. Born in 1978, i found music from this Era through a video game called Fallout "Fallout 3 and 4" to be exact. I can only imagine this situation, and how wonderful it would be, to be in love, chilln on a porch , while its raining "quality time" with music like this ... amazing
Fallout also introduced me to this era of music. Absolutely love it!

This makes me nostalgic for an era of life I’m so far removed from, but have deeply romanticized.
Auschwitz, nukes, a good chance getting killed in the second world war; so sad we've missed that
It helps to stop romanticizing that period of time when you remind yourself that the whole world was then plunged into a bloody senseless world war, millions of innocents were being tortured and killed in horrid concentration camps, Pearl Harbor would be destroyed in 1941, the nuclear weapons would be used against civilians mid-1940s, and the world would never really heal from its wounds from that decade.
"Look at their funny t-shirts" and "What weird dances!" they'll say, but they'll feel a mysterious wonder at the fact that this was what it was to be alive through this weird and painful time: to live... as us.
@@stealthmonkey3G I have been thinking something similar
