🎉another Percy Pig mad couple! It's definitely a tradition, decorating a hard-boiled decorated egg, then rolling it downhill. Only a few kids in my class knew about this tradition when discussing yesterday!
Ha ha, well spotted, everything Percy is so cute 🥰 thank you on the egg rolling, glad it's not just us ☺️👏
Married a Scotsman and hence discovered egg painting and rolling , it was a must in Scotland even in the snow in the Glens at Easter . My son Iain always painted the Saltire on his and his egg always won . Age 46 and he still wins !.
Ha ha definitely a strong Scottish tradition 🥰🏴
Such wholesome childhoods😊
For the most part 😂😂😂🥰
Lot of fun 🎉
Thank you Peter 🥰 we really enjoyed the lakes and the weather helped ☺️
Coniston, Coniston, tell me your answer do,
Everybody loves it there, including you know who!
Drinking, walking, canoeing and whatever,
and with even more drinking they are so clever,
But most of all, we all admire the awesome view.
Ha ha that's brilliant Roger! Wordsworth would have been proud of that one 😂🥰👍
@@VantasticAdventures Thank you. One (or 2, or ...) of your recommended beers always helps my compositions.
Eggsalent video nice camp site good info
On your walks food and beers lol
Ha ha 😂 like what you did there Steve 🤣👍🥰
Great video we done egg painting and rolling as kids great fun
Thanks Alex very pleased to hear it wasn't just us 🥰👍
Yes we always rolled our eggs, my grandchildren now do it ...❤
So lovely you passed on your tradition 🥰
Egg rolling . Proper brought back memories of my growing up north , Manchester areas , great videos you two are made for UA-cam keep it up brilliant 😅
Thank you so much 🥰 great to hear it was in Manchester too, seems very Regional 😁
I'm origionally from N.Ireland and a bit older than u2 chickens. For sure we boiled our eggs, decorated them and rolled them and had great fun. That was probably because we were poor and couldn't afford luxuries like chocolate!!. I'm soo pleased you found nice weather for your easter break. What a gorgeous part of the world. Many thanks for bringing us along.
Thank you Brian that's great! Not just Scotland it seems, so far also Northern Ireland, the North East and Norfolk too it seems 🥰
Great video, love Molly. Keep eye on her leg hope she is ok.
Thank Bob she's definitely on the mend thankfully 🥰👌
We stayed there last year and it was fantastic, a larger pitch further into site with load of birds on our feeder, squirrels etc. Even when we packed the awning down the night before another couple asked if we were leaving as they wanted the pitch 😂😂. I did break the dog and my better half with the walk through the fields to Coniston and both needed a full days rest the next day 😢. That campsite in the fields was the same at the weekend when we were there and very messy when most left - I think it's a National trust site. Glad you had a nice time and hope Molly is fully recovered 👍
Thank you Tim, so much walking on this trip 😂 can see why you did so much too. The pitches are lovely aren't they? Especially if you get a good one 🥰
great video guys. I enjoyed it very much. Bessy regs-Kenny
Thank you, great name of your van too 🥰
@@VantasticAdventures ta muchly. I'll now follow your future adventures
Yep egg rolled as a child in Dumfries and continued it in Stoke and Bradford. And yes they had to be painted first,
Well done for continuing the tradition 🥰👍
😂😂😂 The colouring pack. Hope you were duly entertained!
Can't believe Caroline coloured jn the picture 😂 definitely kept us entertained 🥰
As kids we did the egg painting and rolling at Easter (North Lincolnshire.)
Ah excellent! Outside of Scotland that's great to know it all seems North at the moment 🥰👍
Not just a Scottish thing we used to always do egg rolling in North east too. We call them paste eggs used gorse flowers, onion skins and food colouring to decorate them. We are visiting Coniston and Borrowdale in July two of our favourite sites
Ah thanks Susan that's great, first one from the north east to confirm! Like the method of decorating sounds very good for the environment too 🥰👍
Great video as always very funny well done. Poor mollie hope she is feeling better.
Thanks John, she's definitely on the mend hoping another week or so and she will be back jumping straight into the van 🥰👍
Hi Iain and Caroline loved your video such a shame you and Molly didn't summit the Old Man I did it two day running with our old pointer Maddy she was like mountain goat the views our amazing on a clear day
Hope this gives you the bug for more Cumbrian adventures we can't wait to get up there with our van take delivery very soon🤞looking forward to next Friday's post👍
Thank you Tim, we definitely will go back the walks were amazing and the views from the drone stunning 😍 well for doing two days that's impressive it was very steep at the bottom 🙂👍
Yes I remember decorating & rolling eggs, in fact Easter Monday used to have an inter school football match in the morning & all day would be spent having fun on the giant axe field……. those were the days…….kim
Aw glad it wasn't just us, very fond memories your school sounds lovely 😍
My husband is a Londoner and he didn’t decorate eggs or roll eggs 😟. I see from the comments someone else from the NE has already mentioned decorating paste eggs and it was a tradition in our family too. We used to make patterns with hot drops of candle wax and soak the eggs with onion skins and cochineal. We then walked to Tunstall Hills, the highest point in Sunderland and rolled them down the hill. They always have a service on the hill on Good Friday and mount a cross and this year I could see it from my kitchen window and so many people were there. Obviously not us! 🥴. Thanks for sharing another interesting video. I hope Molly is fully fit very soon.
Thank you Sylvia 🥰 That's great to know it was also a tradition in the North East, we were convinced just a Scottish thing! Sounds brilliant, Especially with the wax, will have to try that ourselves. The service is lovely too, thank you so much for taking the time to let us know 🥰
Coniston is lovely - we went in the crown too - great they are dog friendly. Loved the inflatable kayak on the water too - can’t beat it can you a paddle on the lake.
Breakfast looked cracking too.
We used to go rolling eggs 🥚 went to the trouble of buying some egg paint this year but never got around to painting some to roll - feels wrong to do it now.
When we were at Coniston we found the film about Donald Campbell on UA-cam and watched it.
Nice beers! 🍻 you guys did the proper Easter thing, we were rubbish 😂
Looks like a lovely visit, have a cracking weekend.
All the best, David & Rachel 👍
Really impressed with the Crown, would definitely return and the food was excellent 👌 We didn't know you could get egg paint! Thanks brilliant thanks very much will check it out 🥰
Looks like you had a great time, we did egg painting and rolling at school many years ago and I now feel like a bad parent that we didn't do it with our daughter although she does still have the fancy dress costume we made when she went as a MARS easter egg complete with weight 4 & a half stone. Cheers K.
Ha ha that's sounds like a brilliant costume! Good to hear you did egg rolling too, which part of the country did you grow up? 🥰
@@VantasticAdventures Rainhill which was Lancashire then became Merseyside when I was about 10, I think.
Ah of course, excellent local knowledge we are impressed 🥰👍
Iain obviously Caroline is the normal one. Always keep on the ladies side 😉
Ha ha 😂 very sensible David 🥰 👍
Another cracking video guys. Glad to see film production is back up and running at full strength. Looking forward (as always…) to the next one 👍 Hope Mollie’s leg is better soon.
Thanks John 🥰 she's definitely on the mend thank you 🙂👍
Hi, Ian and Caroline
We have subscribed to your channel today as we really like your light-hearted approach to being away.
We are caravanners but love some of the places you've been and the walks.
I love my real ales too, the other half prefers red wine
tho.
Never done egg rolling but looks fun.
Hope Mollie is OK.
Please keep the vlogs coming and love the outtakes.
Pail and Joanne 😊👍
Thank you for your lovely message and welcome to our channel 🥰 Hopefully lots more travel and beer coming up soon 😁 we have lots of plans for 2023 👍
Boiled egg, painted then rolled in Scotland
Thanks Billy, exactly the same it must be a Scottish tradition 🥰🏴
I'll back you up. We used to go to Tunstall Hill nr. Silksworth, NE England so definitely not just Scotland. You have to try all the pubs.
Stewards Enquiry on the Egg Race,
Ha ha thank you 😂 great to hear it's not just Scotland 🏴 Seems the North East, Norfolk and Scotland so far 🥰
Enjoyed the video tonight , very entertaining 😊. We’ve been to Coniston a couple years ago for the day but we traveled on the local bus service . We were stopping at the Swan in Newby Bridge. We recognised a few places . Your video has made us want to go back in our van. We hope Mollie is ok . Looking forward to your next video 😊
Thank you Carol, we considered getting the bus to Ambleside but then got distracted by the pubs 😂👍
Hi again,
In one of your vlogs you said any suggestions of places to stay one of our favourites in Hebden Bridge Club Site,
Have ever thought about covering your barn doors with a cover to help prevent an internal cover to prevent draughts and retain heat I believe there are videos to show them 😊
P and J
Thank you, we haven't come across Hebden Bridge yet thanks that's great will check it out and add it to our list 😁👍
We did consider insulation for the barn doors but Mollie likes to sit there where it's a bit cooler when she's down that end of the van but will check out the videos as we may be able to do something thank you 🥰
Never heard of cheese rolling, sorry Iain. Caroline soldiers are a requisite when having boiled eggs. 😊We would decorate our boiled eggs and then eat them. We always turn our boiled eggs upside down and pretend we hadn’t eaten them. Someone else would then smash it. Eggcellent fun 😂. As a child we didn’t have Easter egg hunts but our children did. Well done Brave egg although there may need to be a stewards enquiry. Take care Gill
Love the turning upside down Gill 😂 that's a great idea 🥰 Caroline definitely needs to have soldiers with her eggs 😂👍
Yip…I must be weird then….but I like the vid thumb
Ha ha the ice cream was good ,😂👍
Looks an amazing place, would it be suitable to take a large caravan ? ( 8ft wide) great vid
Yes no issues there were some big units there when we stayed 🥰
Hello
Enjoyed the video, booked this site last year but cancelled it after watching a video on here. Looks very untidy and strange layout. But looked ok where you were pitched. Not sure we might try it !
It is definitely a strange layout and on a hill but it's also really big and plenty of space, the pitches at the bottom closer to the lake seemed much more busy but you can walk into Coniston from both the top and bottom of the site, the top was definitely more quiet 🥰 We would go back as the area is stunning and the site had good facilities if that helps 😊👍
@@VantasticAdventures Yes thanks for the info.
I did egg decorating and rolling with my school in the 1970s but no one I know does it anymore
Thank you 🥰 we still do it every year, hope to keep it going 😂
Hi to you both, missing your blogs, will you be back soon?
Yes we roll eggs down the hill every year! Paint them first too! But.... How many of your viewers think gammon should be served with a slice of pineapple? Eggs just isn't right! 🏴
I hate pineapple, but I can eat a dozen eggs, if I’m not egg bound from the previous evening
@richardsracingmad hahahah dont think I could stretch to a dozen, unless you are talking cadburys eggs 😂😂
Ha ha started with pineapple and then moved on to eggs as got older 😂👍
Egg and pineapple is the best option 😂👍
Egg rolling must be a Northern tradition,
So Iain I think is up for a mission,
To get everybody converted,
But please don't get diverted,
To the value of eggs and their nutrition.
Ha ha 😂 very good, that could be an advert for eggs! 😂😍👍👍👍
@@VantasticAdventures Thank you Iain and Caroline (and Mollie), your videos (and beer!) give me all the inspiration I need to write another sonnet!
I remember egg painting/rolling as a child and using onion skins as a colouring agent. Think it’s a much older tradition than the egg hunting, and we had never heard of the Easter Bunny then.
Hope Molly is fully recovered. If Sorrel pulls anything then I give her Loxicam - sorts her out quickly.
What make is your windbreak please? It looks easy to put up. Could I manage it on my own? (Sadly I lost my husband last month and I’m toying with the idea of carrying on eith our camper).
So sorry to hear that Ann ❤️😔 it's a Sunn Camp windjammer pole awning so very lightweight. You can put it up on your own as Iain did it on the first trip but it can be tricky. You could peg it out first then put it up and adjust once in place to do it on your own.
Thanks for letting us know on the egg rolling, glad it wasn't just Iain 😂
We hope you can continue to get away on your own, like-minded people can be very friendly 🥰
Will check out loxicam thank you 🥰
Definitely a Scottish thing to paint hard boiled eggs and then roll them down a hill.
We always thought Scottish only but seems the north east and Norfolk did it too from the comments 😂👍
Did I miss which site this is? I was probably still laughing at the epi-pen story!
😂 don't blame you 😂😂😂 It was Park Coppice C&MC site at Coniston, very nicely laid out and a huge site 🥰👍
Thank you. We booked. They said they'd send the commission cheque to you first class post 😂
Ha ha 😂 hope you enjoy as much as we did, the bluebird ale was very good 🍺🥰👍
No, we never had egg rolling up north. We did have to find the ester egg.
Same as Caroline 👍 thanks Dave 🥰
I thought egg rolling was historically a Preston thing.. its religious, its about rolling the rock away from Jesus's tomb so he could accent to heaven.
Thank you that's what Iain said too 👍🥰 glad to know it made it to Preston too, first one in north west 👌😍
