Raising the Roof: 50 Years of Fiddler on the Roof

On June 9, 2014 The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene (www.nationalyid...) kicked off our Centennial with RAISING THE ROOF, an allstar concert celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Fiddler and the 90th birthday of Sheldon Harnick, Fiddler lyricist.
The sold out show reunited performers from the Original Broadway production, the film, and many major revivals with appearances by Chaim Topol, Joshua Bell, Fyvush Finkel, Pia Zadora, Austin Pendleton, Adrienne Barbeau, Sheldon Harnick, Mike Burstyn, and more.

I was there. My father Larry Ross performed. Was a magical night. What I remember most is Fyvush Finkel bringing down the house with his monologue in Yiddish. You didn’t need to know the language to hear the humor. And at the end of his scene when he stood up to dance off the stage - in his 90’s mind you - the audience went crazy. Got a standing ovation in the middle of the show. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
