  • This journey takes us through a variety of tasks, ranging from working with pore filler, finish, and hand sanding, to the precise dimensional precision of small CNC milling in aluminum bronze for tuning machine frames and custom buttons. This exciting adventure fulfills our desires for engineering, art, science, and luthiery.

Love it! Can you source the small worm gear alone and where would you source that?

Not that I know of, I'm in the process of setting up a machine to make my own.

Beautiful work. How did you reset the xyz coordinates for the CNC for milling the second pass of the bronze aluminium?

The question you asked requires a detailed explanation. First, it's essential to understand the difference between absolute and relative coordinates in the process. As I currently work with relative coordinates, the endmill is used to locate the designated organ in the CAM operation. To achieve this, I touched off on one side, zeroed it, then repeated the process on the other side. I divided the distance by two, used the MDI to bring the tool to that point, and re-zeroed it. It's a precise process, but necessary for accurate results.

What a brilliant way to do it. Thanks for the comprehensive response, I'll have to give that technique a try
