    Tammy and Amy Slaton are back again with season 4 of TLC's 1000-lb Sisters and I finally caught an episode. It wasn't what I expected. What other shows should we talk about?

      Yeah, now I just wish Tammy would grow tf up and treat her family better and gain even a QUARTER of the self control her siblings have worked so hard for- even if yrs just in regards to how she treats others. But until she cares about herself, she will continue to act the same way and hurt those who love her the most.

      Amy didn't do shit. At what point did she work hard??!? She NEVER met her weight goals, they were constantly binging on junk food and eating out to and from the trips to the doctor. At no point was she on track, but was so fat that barely cutting back resulted in moderate weight loss. She never stopped being a fat ass and is now ballooning up again.

    You hit the nail on the head with addressing that it’s more of a physical issue. When I was 4, I started gaining weight without eating any more than usual. It ended up being a hormonal imbalance with growing body hair much earlier than puberty. I spent my childhood relentlessly bullied by my classmates for the next decade, and was diagnosed with complex PTSD from it (and some trauma in my adult life).
    What we are witnessing is a physical manifestation of Tammy’s pain and trauma, and I feel that’s why it’s important for us all to be empathetic instead of resorting to making fun of people like Tammy.
    Whether it’s mental illness, insulin resistance, childhood trauma, or whatever: it’s not just about eating too much.

      Preach. Most people assume people are overweight or obese because they’re lazy and that’s just not the case. MOST overweight or obese struggling mentally. I’m one of those people. Depression, anxiety, PMDD. Then there’s people who say “you just gotta get up and go for a walk,” and it’s just not that easy.

    • @radio_obscura
      @radio_obscura Рік тому +34

      I was overweight in high school and would go on 5-mile walks every day with my friends because there was nothing to do. I skipped lunch every day and could play DDR for hours without getting tired. After graduating, I lost the extra weight gradually, without really realizing, because not a whole lot changed besides exercising less. I also have had periods where I barely leave my computer chair and don't adjust my eating habits at all and somehow lose weight. That's not to say that I've never been able to lose weight while making a conscious effort, because I have, but I'm convinced that there is so much more to it than we even know, so I don't judge people for what they weigh.

      I totally agree with you that we are looking at the embodiment of her pain and trauma. She hurts, she self soothes and numbs herself with food. There’s a shame cycle here. She feels worthless, she self sabotages. I don’t know for sure, but I’d be willing to bet that all of the siblings have lived through some degree of childhood trauma. It's so refreshing seeing someone finally cut Tammy a little slack. Every time one of my favorite creators rip her and their entire audience rips her, kicking her more when she's down, I feel the need to somewhat defend her. They also say she's a horrible person because she's mean to her family. Of course she's mean, she's miserable. If I were as big as her, I'd hate the whole world. As someone who went through a very severe depression for over a year and gained a ton of weight, I have had so much sympathy for her. And a lot of the time even when you don't mean to, you take it out on the ones you love the most. Which is something I really regret and once you start getting your health back mentally and physically, you become more self aware of that. I'm never going to give up on her. There are many people who try and fail over and over until something sticks and I hope and pray that this is the time it sticks.

    Ugh, I hope they get her a new therapist. No one should be forced to deal with a therapist they hate. And it doesn’t matter why she hates the therapist either. She’s hard to deal with because of her mental health issues. If a THERAPIST can’t deal with that and help her in a way that works for her, what use is the therapist to her?

    • @jenner81
      @jenner81 Рік тому

      Even if they got her a new therapist, she would hate that one, and the next one and so on. She hates them because they are confronting her issues and trying to get her to deal with them, but she doesn't want to. Unless she deals with her emotional and mental health issues, she will always end up back in the same spot. You can change your outward appearance and move to a new place, new job, etc. But if you haven't changed your inner self, nothing will change and in a few months you'll be back in the same spot.

    • @NotChanelleLize
      @NotChanelleLize Рік тому +2

      @@jenner81 It’s the therapist’s job to help her deal with her emotional and mental health issues. If she could be expected to get to a certain level of mental health on her own without the help of a therapist before being good enough for therapy, she wouldn’t need therapy in the first place. Sometimes it takes some shopping around to find a therapist that’s right for you. She deserves to do that, whether people think she’s “just being difficult” or not.
      Part of the entertainment people get out of this show is being frustrated with her. Making her journey frustrating to watch is profitable. Don’t forget that.

    • @jenner81
      @jenner81 Рік тому

      @@NotChanelleLize No, the therapists job is to ask you questions, get you thinking about your situation, how you got there and offering a different perspective and ideas on how you can change that or work on it. The therapist is there to guide you, YOU have to do the work!! That's why so many people say therapy doesn't work is because they expect the therapist to cure all their problems, but when they realize that they have to take personal responsibility and solve their own problems, no one wants to do it!! A good therapist will make you think. If they are giving you all the answers to your problems then they aren't a good therapist because you won't have learned anything and you'll be back in the same place in few months. And yes, I know what I'm talking about as I'm going through it right now.

      I’m not talking about you.
      Tammy needs someone to help her develop that strong mindset. Just because you were able to do it faster than her doesn’t mean she’s not trying. You’re not the same people, and you’re not on the same journey. “She’s not trying hard enough” is never an appropriate way to speak about someone who is actively seeking help.

      @@NotChanelleLize Faster? It's taken me years to get here! I've been on stress leave since last September and I just now feel ready to deal with some things. But the difference is, I WANT TO deal with my issues, Tammy (just watching the tv show) does not. She has to be willing to change and she does not want to. Apparently now, she has lost a lot of weight and got married, but unless she dealt with her issues, after she leaves rehab it will just go back to how it was before and it will only be a matter of time before she falls of the wagon, so to speak. I hope she's dealt with her issues and can live a happy life from now on and I wish her well, but only time will tell. And from my experience, I wouldn't place a bet on it.

    Just started watching this show after binge watching all your content the last two years or so. Just wanted to pop into the comments and say thanks. While I think the producers don't always paint them in the best light, their personalities are prominent and I think they're sweet hearted, well intentioned people that are worth a deeper look. They say so many important things, however small and nuanced it seems to them, it means a lot to hear it for the viewer. Their honesty about situations with their family, and the closeness they all share is nothing short of pretty damn amazing. When directly asked a question, nobody lies about it. I'm on season 3 now. Just wanted to reach out and show your channel some love for introducing me to their story. Love your content. I try to keep up in my down time and am genuinely upset when my algorithm doesn't show your latest videos and I fall behind because I love them all. A reality show about a 23 year old woman with non-genetic dwarfism caused by chemo when she was a baby, as a result she is under 4 feet tall. The show can get pretty slow (a lot of the filler you reference from !,000 lb Sisters) but her family is so endearing! They have fights and are awkward like a regular family, but the support they have for each other is what kept me tuning back in. In turn it makes them feel like it's ok to consume this kind of "entertainment". People say it allows us to understand these issues so we can have more empathy for folks with health challenges. To me, it's just allowed more hate to come out. Look at the comment sections on posts about this show. Nothing but fat phobia and stigma being spread about being overweight. As someone who struggles with my weight, I find these types of shows to be more problematic because in the end most people don't really care and just want to watch because it makes them feel better about themselves or it allows them to partake in bullying of people who are overweight. It's like all the misery porn out there.

      Of course Tammy’s situation is very sad and not lighthearted. But we can’t pretend Tammy isn’t a manipulative and abusive person who is responsible for her actions. All of her personal struggles aside, Tammy is MEAN, especially to the people that care about her the most. That doesn’t make me hate her. I obviously want her to get help and live a life where she’s peaceful. But she needs to stop being cruel and abusive to everyone in her family.
