The Witcher 4 - Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 чер 2025
- CD PROJEKT RED and Epic Games come together at the State of Unreal to show an early development Unreal Engine 5 tech demo for The Witcher 4 - showcasing some of the innovative technology and features that will help bring the game’s open world to life. Keep in mind this isn’t gameplay of The Witcher 4 itself, but a deep dive into the technological foundation of the new Witcher saga.

The swords don't clip through the cloak. This is without doubt an unprecedented accomplishment of technological innovation.
Sounds like joke but its true 😅
Biggest complaint I had with dragons dogma 2 was capes clipping through shields lol
reins clipping through horse mane :|
Yeah cloth sims are no joke
It does clip through the cape. However the swords are mounted farther away from the back of the character model & they made a virtual boundry beyond which the cape does not shake. As a result, only a little portion on the scabbard's bottom or the right edges clips through.

There's a lot to say, but something I really appreciate is that they're sticking to the artstyle of Witcher 3 (and even 2), a mixture of realistic/stylised visuals, rather than going for the generic, photorealistic artstyle we've seen in several games running on UE5.

Scaling like dlss or fsr is still miles better than normal AA and even on a fast running game, dlss in quality has a better image quality than native (due to better AA).

@@rickyrat42069 watch out he used the "s" word. Probably subscribed to threat interactive too :D
People should remember that this is a tech demo and many of these kind of details, at this scale, rarely ever are put into the release of a game due to, mainly, performance constraints - tech demos are a vertical slice of what *could* end up in the game. Witcher 3 also had a lot of cool technologies that never made it into the game.
Looks cool though, lets hope most of these things make it in!
Ya I was thinking the same thing "none of these NPC interactions are making it into the final game"

Cyberpunk was fantastic at launch if you weren't dumb enough to play "the most advanced game on the planet" with an 8 year old console. Don't be dumb this time around and get a PC for the "real" experience.
I’m not sure cyberpunk was rushed so much as Sony and Microsoft made them develop ps4 and Xbox one versions of the game. Those consoles can’t run the game properly, as evidenced by them missing out on phantom liberty. Should have been next gen and pc only
It was ass on pc as well at launch. Bugs and optimisation...
It definitely was rushed, had they released 2.1 as launch version even a full year later... @@AlwaysRightNeverWrong
At 6 years old I was playing black and white Snake, and Tetris.

Not to alarm you, but 30 years ago we had the PS1 tetris at that time was already 10 years old, you're looking at 40 not 30
I agree but it has stagnated. Where between 2000 and 2015 we had the golden era of games, nowadays gameplay is getting dull, graphics get better but gameplay stays the same. Geralt would have kept a closed, stoic face, but he would have approached the merchant and sort of threatened him, you could hear in his voice that he's irritated, even pissed off.
Ciri, on the other hand, remains calm but is a little more mocking, insolent, given her facial expressions and tone.

Geralt is the curmudgeonly old dad, and Ciri is the irreverent daughter who always makes fun of him, but somehow thy still love each other.

A bit unnecessary, you are not going to look for that level of detail when playing the game. That would be good in a game specifically about horses, like breeding, racing, training, and cleaning horses etc. Like you can see how the muscles on the horses leg responds as you lift it to fit a new shoe. But I think for the Witcher, an action Fantasy RPG, it doesn't add anything to the game. I would rather they dedicate the resources to Ciri's muscles instead, such as the way her lean forearms respond as she grips heavy objects with her hands, or the way her breasts move depending on how secure they sit in her outfit. Or what about wounds that heal over time, you could see a cut on her face heal over time etc. You are going to be looking at Ciri all the time so these features will be more noticeable than what we see on the horse. I'm all for the NPC stuff though.
I can’t wait to explore the cities. The bulk of the game is in nature sure, but there was something so brilliant around the novigrad section in Witcher 3. Idk if its intentional or not, but I can see the resemblance of this trailer to Witcher 3's opening cutscene of where Geralt and Vesimir track down Yen. In this trailer, we see a flashback scene of the manticore attack, then we're brought to the present with Ciri kneeling down to examine a coin as part of her tracking. In the Witcher 3's opening cutscene, there is also a flashback of the battle that Yen encountered, then we're brought back to the present with Geralt kneeling while inspecting a horse's head as he's tracking. What's cool is that in both trailers, both Ciri and Geralt are wearing cloaks. Like father like daughter.

No it isn't. This is exactly what they did with Cyberpunk. They drowned us in "tech demos" and "showcases" and ultimately delivered a steaming pile of poo when the game came out. Yes, they've done a lot to the game since, so I'm not saying The Witcher 4 will be history repeating itself, but this shows us nothing beyond what they HOPE the game will look like.

@@qwerttzizziThey show Lan Exeter, which is the winter capital and the main port of Kovir. The summer capital is Pont Vanis. In the books, a peculiarity of this place is that there are no streets in the city, navigation is done by the Grand Canal. Those who have read the books know who is the Boss of this city and this region but I will not say more so as not to spoil the discovery for those who wish to discover it in the game, in any case, it is very good!
@@qwerttzizzi Lan Exeter. It's a major city in the kingdom of Kovir. It's a very rich city and it's university is supposedly better than Oxenfurt's one from Witcher 3 and the books. There's only one chapter in all of the books set in Lan Exeter where it's shown to basically be like a northern Venice with canals you'd travel through on boat and not really room for a horse. Here they seem to have based it more off of Russian architecture, mostly the Kremlin's style. A lot more vertical than I imagined. Still, looks very unique for a fantasy setting
@@tomjones8859 I've read all the books but it's been a while. I do vividly remember reading a bit that took place in Lan Exeter. If my memory serves me right it had to do something with its king? Correct me if i'm wrong.

Pretty Kitty was one of them.
Won't see that king though. He was last mentioned in W2 but his sun appears to be king by W3 meaning he waa assasinated between the game in a plot unrelated to the Kingslayers, which is odd but is what it is

Mostly for the Gwent.
She looks like a Disney Princes and totally out of place.
I take the Witcher 3 Ciri gladly over this version of her. I get what there were trying to do but to be honest it dosent fit with her. If she wouldnt have the freckles , lets be honest you wouldnt even know its her...
@@toplay1764 How do you know, it wouldn't fit her? Maybe in the time between Witcher 3 and 4 she went through the most horrendous injustice, through loss and pain and is now full of hatred and vengeance. Maybe she lost her innocence and is now a force against a cruel world but became herself a monster in some ways. Yes, the design of the cinematic trailer would fit her very well, if you take into consideration, how a harsh environment can change a person drastically and the world of The Witcher is such a world. A Disney Princess is just the wrong approach.
@@toplay1764 Witcher 3 Ciri is much younger then this version of Ciri, we don't know how much time has passed, it could be 100 years later for all we know. I am going to be heartboken if they've recast Ciri's voice actress. We all fell in love with Jo Wyatt during Witcher 3. She is Ciri!
Sadly CD Projekt Red confirmed that Ciri is played by Ciara Berkeley in The Witcher 4, not Jo Wyatt.
Agreed. It’s the only thing I have an issue with.
I think that change should be ok... Ciri was much younger back then (I think 21 in Witcher 3) and her voice would deepen a bit as she grows older and wiser. She looks in her 30s in the game so it should fit her.
Same! But she is older so maybe her voice become more Geralt like 🤭 she no that young buck anymore she has more experience
I loved Jo Wyatt's performance too and i was really sad to hear it wouldn't be her in the new game. I'm cautiously optimistic about Ciara Berkeley's voice though. She sounded 21 in Witcher 3 - and she definitely sounds closer to her 30's here. It makes sense that she wouldn't sound the same now as she did then. I also think Ciara is doing a pretty good job of matching some of the same inflections Jo Wyatt would put into Ciri's lines. The world response is a big game changer. I hope its algorithm has a probability calculation or randomness that is taken into the algorithm parameters. It starts to looks better than RDDR2. 5:25 Using multi character motion matching. Does that mean you're introducing non - inertial systems ? So if I jump of the horse, my acceleration is horse acceleration plus my acceleration, and if I jump from the back of the horse I can have a slightly decrease in my acceleration ? Overall, this looks game changing. The response of the game is very new parameter. I hope, that in future, quests will be real - time and will interact with other quests in real - time gameplay, so quest outcome can could change in 30 minute of gameplay but I guess that involves AI in quest control and quest generating using like some algorithms that calculate toward the target. Like, in inverse kinematics in robot control we use Levenberg or BFGS algorithms or like generalized inverse kinematics, but in gameplay interaction there would be kind of different approach. So the quest could change in real - time, leading to different character interactions, making the NPC that he thinks he is the host, which of course leads to realistic dialogs but there would be kind of quest tracking. The quest could be realistic if it changes in real - time and is affected by the outer world. But so that the quest should somehow go back to the target so that we have a quests that follows the storyline, we need to introduce some kind of constraints in the algorithm that allow to track the real - time position and status. But overall, this game is very good. Might be one of the best which introduces the new era of simulation control.
