- Hi, I'm Peter 😊. If you enjoy this video, please leave a like and subscribe to see more videos. Feel free to leave a comment or question below. More: / @peterfritzphoto . I currently own six full-size tripods, two mini tripods and a tall monopod, but three of them are clear favourites, and two come with me on every shoot.
Of my three favourites, two are from iFootage (Thomas Heaton uses one), and one is from Peak Design (ditto Jeven Dovey & Chris Hau). Let me show you what I like about them, plus a couple of minor things I don't.

Great set of tripods mate, the TC9 looks robust as & also love the RRS ballhead. The build quality of that is exceptional, could easily support my brick ( 1DX🤣) as well. Glad you showed the pgytech thingo, I had been considering getting that for a while, looks awesome. P.s stop having stiff balls , I mean ballheads, the center column should be like that🤣
Join me thanks
LOL. Yeah, the TC9/BH-55 combo is awesome. Built like a brick shit-house!
The Mantispod isn’t cheap, but it’s very useful. I’ve already used it with my R6, iPhone and GoPro, and it’s just brilliant.
Again a great video!! Keep up the excellent work! I'm looking
forward to another awesome upload! Take care and stay in touch! 🌻😍🌻
That’s so nice of you - thank you. 😄
Nice tutorial, Peter! I do love a tripod video. Always a hot topic. At some point, I plan to share my experience on the subject as well.
Thanks, Michael.
I really like the Peak Design one. I've been thinking of getting that one. Thanks for the video Peter!👍
No problem, Michael. It's definitely worth the money. 👍
I watched in full (and sub too).. I am looking for a tripod, so your reviews were very helpful.
Thanks for showcasing what you had. 😊😊👍👍👍
Thank you. 👍
KING JOY C86....best for landscapes !
Never heard of them, but checked out the C86, and it sure looks nice!
thanks Peter. Great video actually!
Thank you.
I generally hate using tripods. I have about 4, but gave up on most of them because they are either not stable enough, or I just get frustrated with the 'dance' you have to do with legs. I ended up with a Sirui W2204 tripod that is working height without center column raised (but packs down to fit in a carry-on when travelling), and then I found the FlexShooter Mini tripod head... which is kind of like both a gimbal and a ball head. I love it because you the ball means you don't have to do the dance with the legs. It is definitely not the best for a landscape photographer... but amazing for people that do a mix of landscape, sports, and wildlife.
Yeah, I’ve done a few shoots recently without a tripod, and in some ways it’s easier, simpler, and more enjoyable. I’ll be doing more, for sure.
Hi Peter, great job. That short lever between the legs on the iFootage TC9, is your levelling base,,, for levelling the top of the tropod without necessarily having to adjust the legs when setting up on uneven ground. Very handy especially when shooting pano's. Enjoy your new kit.
Thanks, Bob. Yeah, I love the TC9!
I really enjoyed your video, very funny! Thank you!
Thank you. 😄
Great video - very helpful!!
Many thanks, Paul. 🙂
I agree, if you had the TC6, you may as well go the T9. This video helped me and I just ordered a TC7 as my first tripod, should be perfectly eye level for me once I add the my gimble head, I don't think I would utilize the legs if they were any bigger.
Great choice, Kurtis. I think the TC7 is the sweet spot. My TC9 is such a beast, I suspect I’ll have it forever. If I was walking more than a couple of miles, though, I think it would become very tiresome very quickly.
super peak design
I love my TC7!
Yep - that’s the one I should have bought in the beginning! 👍
That mantis is sick.
They’re bloody clever. 👍
Leofoto LS 284 C Pro - 1300 mm height, 10 Kg capacity, 1.2 Kg weight, and 4 position leg angles, with metal waterproof twist leg locks. And it’s solid and stiff, with the latest CF technology. ‘Nuff said. 😊
Funny thing, I don't mind spending on a camera but baulk at paying a lot for a tripod. I think I have this mental block when it comes tripods, weird. All the best, Brian.
Lol. I did, too - right up until I got the Peak Design - then I saw the value in them. 👍😄
Nice watch @ 04:58. 👍
Ah, my old Victorinox Maverick. Haven’t worn that in ages.
A tripod for all occasions Peter, loved the simple review. I'm in the market for a travel tripod at the moment so this came at the right time... cheers 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks, Izzy. The Peak Design is pricy, but it's bloody good.
@@peterfritzphoto cheers buddy will check it out 🙏🙏🙏
I have the TC9. And had a TC7 but sent it back. The issue I have with it is the bubble level for the 75mm bowl leveling head is on top of the head not off the side of it. Once you put a Ball, Pano, Gimbal head on it. They better have a bubble level too or you have no way to level the head. Because Ifootage put the bubble underneath the head when it's mounted.
Bad design that could easily be fixed by a different ball head.
I went to LeoFoto tripods. Their halfballs have the bubble level off to the side.
I also now have a LeoFoto 75mm half ball with side bubble level and bottom mount on my Ifootage TC9. As it fits and I now can balance the ball after I mount it with a head.
The Quick screw mount for the Ifootage halfball won't work on Leofoto. Ifootage requires a much longer screw.
I also now have extra 75mm Leofoto Halfball mounts. I leave my different heads mounted to the half balls. This way I just grab the head I want and change it in the tripod and don't have to screw and unscrew it to the head. I also can swap which tripod I want to bring easily. Grab a mounted Head and ball. And grab the tripod I want. Off I go.
Yes, I’ve notice a number of tripods’ bubble levels are all but useless. For my kind of photography, I rarely use a bubble level - preferring instead to use my eye, then refine through the viewfinder. Thanks for your insights. 👍
What do you think of a pellet bag above the triple base? Is it as good as the patella
Sorry, I don't know what you mean.
This is an area I've stuggled with for my photography over the years, tripods, gone through a handful of monopods and tripds. One or two gorillapods. I find that I never really get completely satisfied. For now I'm using a Sirui carbon travel tripod that is both sturdy and actually smaller than the Peak design, although not quite as slim as the peak design one. It's small enough to stick into the sidepocket of my Peak design backpack and light enought to bring with me most of the time. I find my laziness prevents me from setting it up most of the time unless I need to for long exposures, I should probably use it more than I do. Thanks for showing your tripods, I believe the tripod companies actually thrives on us photographers buying and trying all their "imperfect" products. I find that most photographers overbought and have a handful of tripods in their closets, at least that's the story that the local classified ads tell.
I think that story is an accurate one. It’s taken me years to figure out what I really need/want, and it’s still not perfect. Same with heads. I love the accuracy of a geared head, but hate having three seperate controls. Ball heads are simple, but they flop about. Ugh. Thx for watching, Magnus. 😄
I have equipment from Rollei. It's not so quality high like yours but i am 99 % handheld shooter. The only time i use a tripod is at night an maybe when i shoot a panorama. but nice review. If you give your tripod away always think every day a good act. That means send it to meeee 😂😂😂👍
LOL.
Random question but do you bring those big tripods separately with you on a plane? With your carry baggage I mean. I’m stuck on this issue whether I need to find a tripod small enough to fit in my suitcase or whether I can just bring it under my arm with me on the plane if that’s allowed.
I never take a large tripod on a plane, and I very much doubt you can walk on a plane with one under your arm. I use a travel tripod like the Peak Design, iFootage TC3B, or Freewell Real Travel Tripod (just reviewed last week), and place them inside my my carry-on bag.
@@peterfritzphoto Thank you that's what I suspected 👍
Describing the TC9 did you just say at 6.29 “I got this malaka here” ?? Lol nice comparison by the way. Thinking of the TC9 for a big 600mm lens. Hopefully can handle it
Yep, you heard correctly. That TC9 will hold up a house. A 600mm lens should be a doddle. 👍
@@peterfritzphoto awesome thank you Peter. Ordered 👍🏽
Peter, what are your thoughts on the Peak Designs travel tripod in aluminium? thanks
I hear they’re fine, but because a tripod purchase is a multi-year/decade ownership proposition, I’d spring for the CF version and enjoy the extra benefits (not as cold, lighter, prettier 😄).
@@peterfritzphoto haha,
Love your reasoning but sadly not sure I can run to the cf version. Just got their slide lite and clutch. The reviews of the tripods are very good and I need portability
@@davidsapsford All good, mate. Seriously, you won’t be disappointed either way. The things that make the Peak Design tripod so good are the same across both versions. It’s a very clever design and well made. 👍
It’s eye level for you but I have no idea how tall you are.
Good point. I’m 177 cm.
“big bastard ball head” 😂 does look like it, the TC7 / TC9 were on my short list, the TC7 was my second choice but ended up getting the Benro as I’m used to twist locks and also got a deal on it 😆 Still think the iFootage is better for that bowl head and the spiked/rubber feet, way easier than swapping the feet out each time. Nice video mate.
Yeah, I’ve had a couple of twist lock tripods, but I tended to tighten them too hard. At least with lever locks, I can’t. I love that hilltop location - I might have to make it my outdoor product review studio! 😄👍
I use a fairly new kid on the block a chinese mob Leofoto, good quality and affordable product.
Yes, I've heard they're quite good. China makes a lot of high-quality photography gear these days - including the the tripods in this video. :-)
@@peterfritzphoto Tripods are like cameras there never seems to be a perfect one, it folds in nice as has no center column but comes up a few inches short. You can add a screw on center column quick enough but ahhhh you know.
@@isotechimages.9130 Yep. Maybe we’re too damn fussy. If we were born just 50 years earlier, it would be a whole different story.
@@peterfritzphoto 50 years ago a tee pee would have been closest thing to a tripod.
@@isotechimages.9130 Yep - we’re lucky to be alive and shooting in this era. Truly.
Late comment here… TC 9 is a ‘systematic style’ tripod. Looks to be a nice piece of kit. Don't know what the long term reliability/ durability will be for these iFootage sticks?
LOL @ 08:42. 😂
@ 09:22. Only one leg downhill Peter! More stable mate! LOVE Your Videos and Your ‘style.’ Count me as a NEW SUBscriber! Check out Leofoto! Cheers
Thanks, George. Yeah, I haven't tried Leofoto. I know they're supposed to be pretty good, though. I've owned iFootage for a few years, now. So far, so good.
New friend😊
