The Penn Plax Silent Air B11 takes two D batteries, automatically goes on when the power goes off and costs around $13. Critical safety item on my display tank. Would highly recommend that everyone have one and that BRS carry it!

We just had a power cut this morning and I was running around freaking out. Think it’s time to invest in some backup kit

Nice. It’s too bad that JBJ product designers didn’t think to incorporate a feature to automatically power on as soon as AC power is cut off...a simple relay switch. I really wonder why they didn’t as this would’ve made it a true tank saver while away. Cool product regardless though.

Cobalt makes something similar, except it does turn on automatically when power goes off so you don't even have to be home when the power goes off to be assured of air supply to your tank.

Seems a little pricey when you compare it to the cobalt aquatics rescue Air pump

Where the price difference comes in, is the JBJ is rated to put out much, much more air, and still have the same 24 to 48 hour battery life!
