    I ❤ this content. I moved to colorado 4 years ago and fell in love with the Nuggets. After our championship I wanted more basketball and found the WNBA Aces and became a fan. I got my mom hooked too 😂 and hope we get a WNBA home team!!!🎉

    The ABL had better talent than the W but the W had the MNBA to back them. Dawn Staley, Teresa Edwards, Yolanda Griffith, Katrina McClain and other elite players played in the ABL first. The ABL was played during normal basketball season and the players made 6 figures. However, it couldn't compete with the W's marketing and resources at the time, causing it to fold.

    @4:05, @8:19 and 17:23 - Yes, please!
    @5:25 and @6:41 - 👏👀
    @16:34 - As you've mentioned, un-tapped markets should be of interest: The State of Iowa is another example, especially with college pipelines from the Hawkeyes (B1G) and Cyclones (Big XII). In addition, I would like to see the WNBA revisit Houston (besides given its legendary history), as the Cougars enter the Big XII and the Owls (AAC) are making some noise...plus the Houston area is a recruiting "hot-bed" [with student-athletes from elementary to college-bound]!

    Quita, I always love the content of your videos. Yes, PLEASE present one on the ABL! I remember the brief time when both the ABL and the WNBA co-existed, and felt they were playing stronger b’ball in the ABL at the time. The same thing was happening with the men in ABA / NBA. Of course as a whole, the pool of talent is better now. The W needs another team because too many very talented ladies are being left out only because no available roster spot.

    I'll admit, although Denver just won the NBA championship it wasn't the first location that came to mind for WNBA expansion. I had Miami and some city in Louisiana in mind New Orleans/Baton Rouge. What I like about Denver is they have interested investors so that's a good sign. I hope this expansion does take place!

    I attended the sweet 16 games in Seattle this year, at the game were a lot of WNBA fans. Having a WNBA in a city grows women's sports overall. I hope for continued growth of the WNBA.

    Hello Quita, I hope all is well. I enjoyed this video regarding this subject matter. I’m glad you showed that dunk by Sylvia Crawley because I remember seeing it on the news. She was a good player who moved fluently when she played, and dunking was the icing on the cake. As far as Colorado goes, I believe it would be an excellent fresh market for the WNBA. My only concern would be getting fans from Colorado Springs to Denver. I mention this because I once lived in that area, and cars would be the only way that fans could make it to the stadium unless things changed because it was several years ago when I lived there. Lastly, I don’t think Charlotte is a good market for the WNBA. This area loves college sports, but that love doesn’t extend to the professional leagues. For instance, look at the fanfare for the Charlotte Hornets. Not the best, in my opinion. I have to say this: I hope Canada is in the mix to get a team.

    • @QuitaLovesSports
      @QuitaLovesSports  Рік тому

      I agree with your thoughts on Charlotte, that’s one of the reasons I don’t think the WNBA will be expanding there any time soon. Thanks for mentioning the Colorado Springs piece, I wonder if they are considering that when picking an arena

    Hi Quita, im taking a break from Track&Field world championship to check in with ya. You're always so informative and well researched. The ABL had great players before it folded. Dawn Staley, Valerie Stills and Teresa Edwards were 3 of my favs. As far as expansion goes. Toronto showed great numbers. And with the women's bball tradition built by the P. Summit &Tenn Vols; Nashville might be a good bet.

    Hi Quita-this is exciting in that the WNBA is expanding. I still hold out hope that ABQ, NM might have a chance sometime in the future. I looked at the population of one of the cities that was looked at-Austin, since I thought it might comparable to Albuquerque, but Austin is still considerably larger-about 400K larger in terms of population. I guess the city has be pretty large to be in consideration. I think the things to think about with this-positive and negative, is that while we are a huge basketball-obsessed city, with our UNM Lobos-with both the Women and Men's teams and also the NMSU Men and Women's teams, I am not sure if the population would be as supportive of a WNBA team. At times, our Women's College teams haven't got the exposure and fan base that they deserve. I think though, that minds would change, if people got a taste of seeing these women playing ball in the Pit. (UNM) There's the mentality that basketball is solely dunking, power plays, alley oops, all offense, and individual stars, and not great shooting, passing, screen and goes, bank shots, team play and defense, which is probably a part of every city, but maybe more so in a smaller, less metropolitan city? Anyway, I still think it would be cool for Denver to gain a W team. Heck, I/we would love to travel up there to visit friends/family and catch a game! Great story.

    • @QuitaLovesSports
      @QuitaLovesSports  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for commenting! I think Albuquerque, is a long shot to get a WNBA team, primarily because of the size. The WNBA is still a niche product and it wouldnt be helpful for them to set up shop in small cities because the overall pool of interested fans would be really small. But keep hope alive! Maybe someday a professional womens basketball team will come to Albuquerque

    • @icitnow
      @icitnow Рік тому

      @@QuitaLovesSports Yes, I get it. It's too small of a city to support the team. Bummer. It's kind of bad too, because we have some major big city issues here, already, even with us being a mid-size city, so I am not exactly itching to for us to grow exponentially either. Do you know anything about Stewie and Napheesa's off season league's playing locales?

    Denver would be truthfully legit, as would Philadelphia (which is a diehard sports town and desperately needs another pro hoops team outside of the dysfunctional 76ers), but my favorites to team grab are probably IMO:
    TORONTO and PHILADELPHIA and probably Oakland/Bay Area.

    I have some suggestions big and small cities. Off top "Houston" should get another crack at getting another WNBA team. I want to see a Dallas vs Houston rivalry in Texas. The Houston Comets (in my opinion) should still be around.
    Other states/cities: Mississippi, Toronto, Mexico City (or New Mexico), Oakland (needs some love), Kansas, Philadelphia, Memphis (TN), Oregon, and a Florida WNBA team too.

    • @Nitique05

      Hey Quinta! I know your channel is all about the ladies, but I would love to see an NBA expansion discussion. It doesn't have to be a long video either.
      I believe the WNBA should expand with two new teams; the NBA, in my opinion, should/could expand with four new teams. The NBA has enough talent to spread out a little more, but the WNBA just need more roster spots to see more women thrive and continue to expand from there.

I honestly hope instead of Austin they bring the Comets back to Houston and snatch the Ogwumikes from LA lol! Beyoncé as an owner would be chef’s kiss! I know she was interested in investing in the Rockets in the past. Why not invest in the W and bring the legacy of excellence back to Houston? That’s my expansion dream lol!

      I wish the league would bring back the comments, but that doesnt seem likely to happen (at least right now). Denver is ready for a WNBA team. Given their resources I definitely think they will be 1 of the next 4 teams. As for a name I’ve heard Denver Diamonds and Denver Gold from a local Denver news outlet. I kinda like the Denver Gold it makes sense especially with the history of the state.
    Now as for the next 3 locations. I like Portland, Philadelphia and Toronto. Portland use to a team called the Portland Fire. But that team had financial problems unfortunately and folded after three seasons. I think because the popularity with the NWSL team Portland Thorns. The fanbase wants other chance with a WNBA team.
    Philadelphia I think is a great spot. Philly sports will support that team whether good or bad lol. Toronto I think is the easiest slam dunk I mean 19,000 people showed up for a preseason game. I also don’t want multiple teams in each state. You need to spread them out and grow the fanbase more.
    I think the goal of the league should be to get to 20 teams. That would be monumental for women’s pro-basketball in the US.

    • @QuitaLovesSports
      @QuitaLovesSports  Рік тому

      I like the Denver Gold, though I wonder what that mascot would be. Another name could be the Denver Avalanche.
      While the Toronto game was super popular I'm not sure the league is ready for the logistical nightmare regular international travel would cause, but we will see
      I do like the idea of having 20 teams that are spread out, that way fans all around the country can have a close-ish team near them.

    The WNBA has existed for 27 years the league has never made a profit. The talent pool has been low for a generation. Even the famed Houston Rockets ( who has won 4 consecutive league titles) folded. The WNBA has to break even or a profit in order to grant expansion teams.
