I measured the actuator on my stock '05 Audi 1.8t K03 with following results: PSi movement 3.5 .25mm; 4.0 1.2mm; 4.5 2.8mm; 5.0 4.6mm; 5.5 6.2mm;l 6.0 7.7mm; 6.5 9.2mm; 7.0 10.7mm; I did not measure above that as there is only 10.4mm worth of threads on the actuator rod to move the locking nut over. Three full turns preloads and seals the waste-gate flapper nicely. Any more is not necessary because the N75 determines actual boost by bleeding pressure from the actuator.
A person might think that tightening down the nut each full turn gains 1/3 psi in boost but again, the N75 controls boost by bleeding off pressure from the actuator and thereby keeping the waste-gate closed. Keeping the waste-gate snugly closed is only effective in fighting exhaust back pressure in the turbo until the ECU decides the boost level is sufficient and drives the N75 to allow the waste-gate to open.
3 turns is about right of a one of these turbos. Of course, you should double check the settings with vagcom doing a log of the N75 duty cycle to see its not working too hard to meet the required boost set by ECU.
Thanks for this information bro I really appreciate it. After correctly setting my pre-load 3turns, about how much psi would that be for a starting point? I wish to raise psi to about 17psi
I'm just curious if you know what codes would be appear if they wastegate was found to be bad.. mine leaks pretty bad around the adjustment rod and I suddenly got 7 codes. It had a few boost leaks that were fixed first then noticed the wastegate was leaking after the codes appeared. Kinda stumped on this
Hi there thanks for the video. The instructions that came with my turbosmart actuator told me to do 2mm/2turns of preload (same car) how come to have done 3?
Irrelevant. You want to set preload to hold a steady boost on wastegate pressure. For example, 7psi/0.5bar actuator should boost up to and hold steady 7psi/0.5bar

This is the best video that explains how to set ur autactor I have looked that alot and this one I can see and understand what is going on

You can use a boost controller before the n75 to create a leak off to get more boost

Hi there mate, I've put a video up on my UA-cam of what I think is my actuator not holding boost. Car has no boost leaks, all silicone piping

My Turbo pushes 0.7 bar original its on a Audi A4 B5 1996 1.8t ”aeb-enginecode” am wondering how much 3 turns would do in practice 😅

hi there i have astra vxr h stage2 with turbosmart actuator what should the setting be as changed it
Hi there thanks for the video. The instructions that came with my turbosmart actuator told me to do 2mm/2turns of preload (same car) how come to have done 3?
he added an extra 1lb of boost
It.looks like you turn more than 3.
Clearly didnt watch the red dot on the nut?
Lmao looked like 3 to me
Is a k03 stock on 1.8t cars?

@@carsey2009 How many psi is the wastgate setting in your video thanks
@@alitutar8533 standard so probably 7 or 8psi I think.
@@carsey2009 how can one increase the boost from stock to 12 or 15 psi?
Are you boost up ore down ?
