  • Much thanks to everyone who helped me get this MPC 3000 back. I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to play and explore on this machine again.
    Quick video testing the new setup, using an old school DAW -- the Yamaha AW4416 Digital multitrack recorder -- to mix & record tracks from AKAI MPC3000.

    I remember browsing through the sweetwater catalog back in the early to mid 2000’s and salivating over the 4416 but the price was outrageous. If I’m not mistaken they made a little brother with less tracks. Yamaha and korg were competing heavily as korg had a line up of boards like the 3200. I wound up getting the korg d12 and pairing it with the Yamaha su700 and i believe a Stanton cd turntable and cheap Casio keyboard lol. Good times

      @eddieleonard6925  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes, the VS 16s and 24s are very affordable nowadays, and they were top notch in their day. If you can find one in decent condition, might be a steal 4 sure. How you like the MV8000? Was always curious about that machine.

    • @UrbanJournal
      @UrbanJournal 2 місяці тому

      @@eddieleonard6925 I really like the MV! Lots of sound sculpting options for a hardware sampler from the early 2000s. Tons of effects, filters, time stretching etc… An onboard synth based on the Sh-101 and an internal mixing and mastering section. (The mastering section is from the VS2480). With that said it can be as complex but all the bells and whistles can easily be ignored and aren’t in the way to you just wanting to make music.
      The 8000 has a floppy disk drive and loads some Akai formats. (I believe s5000/6000) and both the 8000 and the 8800 has a cd burner (big deal back then lol). Lots of the parts to the VS and MV are interchangeable.
      I like to chop on it because the way it’s displayed if you’re old school in your chopping technique and don’t like looking at waveforms, you can ignore it and look at the numbers like older MPCs.
      It’s hard to find the 8 output expansion though. Roland meant for this to be an all in one workstation so ideally you wouldn’t need outs in their eyes I guess.

    • @eddieleonard6925
      @eddieleonard6925  2 місяці тому +1

      @@UrbanJournal sounds like a beast of a machine. all i remember about these was that they were expensive, very pro-level, and HUGE. Glad you like yours. I'll keep an eye out for them. I still chop with numbers on my mpc3000. I'm much faster this way than on 2000 with waveforms.

    • @UrbanJournal
      @UrbanJournal 2 місяці тому +1

      @@eddieleonard6925 Yes they are huge, and they’re slow too. It doesn’t bother me too much. I’ve had mine for about 10 years and never have had an issue.
      One last thing, the only real difference workflow wise is the 8800 has auto-zero crossing, which is not on the 8000. You’re a 3000 user so editing the start and endpoints of chops manually is just the norm. All the other differences are aesthetic. So with that said, a 8000 would be cheaper and wouldn’t change much. I do recommend the On Stage Stand. It’s the stand with wheels, I’m sure you’re familiar with it. The thing is huge.

    Dam, what a blast from the past. I bought the Yamaha AW4416 right after it came out and that was my workstation before I learned my daw. It was a cool machine with the flying faders. Definitely taught me a lot. Is your plan to do a whole project with the 3000 and the aw from start to finish?

    • @eddieleonard6925
      @eddieleonard6925  2 місяці тому

      Yes, my next project will be with this setup. I never bought a new computer after the robbery so I'm just rocking with this as my DAW. I love the routing flexibility, and that I can use my own preamps with adat & digital ins/outs.

    It's crazy to think that hear that would've been LAUGHABLY out of my price range like that yamaha is now just considered "obsolete" because everyone is happy with a midi keyboard and a DAW. I just shut down my session of my MPC5000 into a mackie cr1604, so this is fortuitous.

    • @eddieleonard6925
      @eddieleonard6925  Місяць тому

      I have tried it. It's a very cool idea, but it's cumbersome in actual use, as you can only sample by importing from a cd, selecting a segment of recorded audio, or recording via one of the inputs. All of my inputs are used up, so it's easier for me to just use one of my many samplers. I bet if I play around with it enough, might lead to some interesting stuff, but I haven't given it the time.
