So many good suggestions that have answered so many questions I've had. Thank you! I'm still waiting for someone to do a demo showing how they would produce a typical watercolor painting, maybe a landscape/cityscape, using this program. Anybody?
Hello Anthony, we are glad you have enjoyed this tutorial! Some painters have already tried different Rebelle 4 media on their channels. These watercolor videos might be helpful: Steve Elliott: ua-cam.com/video/hR0KjttUEA8/v-deo.html Daniel Ibanez: ua-cam.com/video/46T78YOIUgY/v-deo.html
These tutorials are really well made. Easy to understand and non pretentious. Can you make a nice border used in traditional watercolor where you see the paper on the outside border of the painting? I see you can use the marquee tool to make geometrical shapes, but this leaves a «too perfect» outline for the natural border made with tape type of look.
Hi User, I think you are referring to the traditional method of using masking tape on all 4 sides to hold down your watercolor paper? If so, consider a custom stencil with tape edges. You can make a stencil out of any shape, object or edge. Consider making a black square and then nibble at the edges with an eraser with various brushes to your desired edge. Then create a stencil out of it. You would only need one since you can unlock the aspect ratio. (The one stencil could be used for any shape of paper). Hope this helps, Tom G.
How can I restore individual brushes deleted by mistake and also a group of brushes deleted by mistake? Well, I think so, that I erase a group of brushes trying to erase a created group that was empty. I also need to know how can I add brushes to a new group. I bought the program but it is difficult for me to understand how to use the brushes. I'm very used to photoshop that shows you everything.
Rebelle does not have such masking possibilities right now, but there is a workaround: - If you don't need to paint over your brush strokes in a separate layer you can use the "Lock Layer Transparency" option in the Layers panel. This option locks the transparent pixel on the painted layer so you are able to paint on your already painted strokes. - If you need to have your gold brush on a separate layer, you can use the Magic wand selection tool - and use the option "Use Alpha". This way you can create a selection of your painted strokes on one layer and paint in that selection in another layer.
@@EscapeMotions Better and more intutive masking options would be nice. As an artist im use to using masking typae and gels to control my paints in a more intutive way on the canvas.
is that color set you are using available anywhere? if not, how would you go about creating one? Thanks! Awesome Video BTW. Currently am trying to figure out how to use rebelle to learn watercolor using some courses i have. Its an amazing program!
I have rebelle 4, on windows 11, I cannot get drips. I have drips turned on, I have the tilt, activated with blue line straight down as far as it can go. I have watched, several of Escape motion UA-cam videos..followed instructions to a tee, still cannot get the drip straight down, what it does is diffuse on both side. Please help I am thoroughly frustrated.
You probably have to turn up the water amount on your brush. Or make sure your layer isn't already wet because drops will only occur on a dry layer with a really watery brush.
Hi Sadie, The trick is to wait long enough for the colors to mix. If you place wet paint on dry paint they will mix together where they overlap. If you place wet paint on a wet layer they will bleed into the background and blend together where different colors overlap. How fast may depend on the percentage of water you have set for the brush. Try to start here 17:00 and that is the colors blending together in real time on a layer with the transparency lock on. Tom G.
@@TheArtofTomGallovich Thank you! I've been trying to make a graded wash with watercolors and I can't seem to figure it out! Is there a way to do it in this program?
@@sadiewinterlord6908 I am assuming you want an airbrush look for a dark to light gradation? (Using a soft sided brush will definitely help a nice even blending.) Start with a wet layer. It may be easier to PAUSE the Diffusion control while you place your color values. This would be if you want more than one color involved. If your colors are close in value will make this much easier. Once your colors are in place then turn on the Diffusion. Keep in mind how well they blend will also depend on your Visual Settings. Try this with the Re-Wet and Edge Darkening to zero. Consider the Tilt in the direction you want the color values to blend. If it is just one color, for example start with 20% Loaded Brush, 100% Water, Wet Layer, then create consecutive bands of color across your paper on the same layer. For example start at 6 inches from the top and make a straight line across your paper. WITHOUT lifting your pen/brush, color in to the top. Then start at 5 inches and repeat the process. Then 4, then 3 and so on. After you have all of your banding in place turn ON the Diffusion. Also keep in mind that it may also be an option for you to use multiple layers with a color on each layer and create an optical mix. This of course would not be the same as the colors actually mixing. Experiment to achieve your final look that you can work with.
Thanks. It was a lot to absorb. I’ll watch it again. I would love to see someone use some of these techniques in paining a landscape or portrait.
Absolutely brilliant and articulate explanation.
This is one of the more practical videos and very informative. I'd love to see more videos by Tom.
Thank you! Tom is already working on couple of more videos - they should be available soon.

I love this software so user-friendly ❤️
Thank you, we appreciate it!
Great tutorial. Is there a way to change the width of the drips? Thanks.
Yes, there is a slide for that in the visual settings

Curious about the settings on a few of those watercolor brushes. How do you create the mops? They don't appear to be part of the Rebelle 4 presets.
Thank you for your question, Rob! Tom will cover the brush topic in one of his upcoming videos.
