@ Philip LindleySBR is a Latex based cement additive that makes the mortar more flexible and waterproof.I would post a link to the product but can't paste any links into the comments section for some reason. If you Google SBR bond you will find it ;-)
We used to accomplish a similar effect to the SBR by adding 1-2 cups of bulk PVA glue to a mixer of concrete. Stopped moisture leaching the salt out of our retaining walls.
Hello Sir, have you worked with carbon fibre in concrete? My friend who is doing PhD is facing an issue where the mortar cubes cast using carbon fibre as an additive are found to stick to the surface of the mould even though oil was applied to the inside of mould before pouring the mortar. The situation is same even after waiting for 48 hours for de-moulding after casting . Also, the surface of the mortar cubes on de-moulding develops cracks or the cube is breaking into pieces. If you have a suggestion on this issue, kindly advise. Thank you so much for your time.
Love it hairy concrete, have to do this next year so need to track down that fibre reinforcer, only negative is the fast set time, so I guess mix small amounts throughout the day. Excellent detail and tips Master Handyman many thanks!
Where can you get the SBR stuff in Australia? I guess it comes under a different brand name ? I just want to mix a small amount of pointing cement for a tile roof ridge, don't want to buy a bucket of the flexible roof pointing compound. Your formula seems to be ideal. Thank you.
wonderful channel keep up the good work..I am thinking of doing this mix 3sand 1cement for bathroom walls and found equivalent to SBR here in Australia I am going for Bondall Silasec Water Proofer ..but cannot find the shreded fibre fabric ..but can buy the fibre glass fabric in 1 meter by 1 meter size.. if I then shred it using a scissors ..do you think I can get the same result or can I prepare the mix without the fibre
+Danny Dora Thanks, I just found some on ebay in Australia- fave.co/1Sd5C3y I don't think cutting up a sheet of fibre glass will be any good as the strands in the reinforcing fibre are very fine.
Dear U/H Man I am trying to make a concrete bathroom sink top in a ( top fill mold) in place I f that makes sence and would be grateful if you could advise me on a good mix of cement ( maybe / not sand) and or SBR that will leave me with a good smooth finish without too much in the way of diamond sanding when finishing off. Many thanks Adrian. Great videos very informative thanks
This seems like a good idea where cement needs to be waterproof and have resistance to cracking from frost and movement etc. Builders merchants should stock the reinforcing fibre.
+Ultimate Handyman I was looking on Amazon to purchase two of them mixing buckets you used ,I think they're called tubtrugs only thing is I don't know what size to get can you please tell me if you know what size those black ones you use are cheers
Not sure about that. I always use SBR when mixing mortar, but I’ve never tried it with plaster of Paris 🤔 PVA is not a good thing to mix with anything that could potentially get wet, as it can turn back to a liquid.
+Richard Grave It's not something I have ever done to be honest. Peter Scholey has some tutorials on how to do it - ua-cam.com/video/7DbamTXhA7c/v-deo.html
Flexible and cement are not two things I usually think of together. There is a lot to learn about this material. Your videos are so varied and informative, thanks. I could not see and you did not mention, I think, if you are working with this kind of stuff do you need breathing protecting and if so what kind do you recommend?
+justgivemethetruth I'm not sure to be honest. There was no heath and safety information on the bag that the fibre came in. I am sure the fibres are made from either polypropylene or polyester and so should not pose a health risk. Wearing a dust mask should ensure that non of the fibres are inhaled, but it's unlikely that they will be airborne if you handle the carefully. Thanks for the comment ;-)
+Ultimate Handyman I've always heard that you should not inhale cement particles for sure, but I have no idea how high they can float in the air. I thought the fibers would be made from silica/fiberglass and did not know about polypropylene fiber reinforcement. I guess you learn something every day on You-Tube. Thanks.
+justgivemethetruth Oh yes, cement is bad and if you are working in a confined space then definitely wear a dust mask when mixing. Plaster is also bad and should not be inhaled. If mixing inside I would definitely wear a dust mask. Thanks for the comments ;-)

Hello great video. Could this be used for a house foundation, or screed floors? Also does the sbr in the mix help it adhere to old concrete?

There are some guys on UA-cam that make such things, I would ask them 👍

Does Sbr be always used neat or does it be thinned down its kinda costly if you need a lot of mortar
+jerry o connor
I have always used it neat. But if it says on your SBR that you can dilute it then you could do- but it's something I have never done!

do you know how to improve pva fiber dispersion?
No, sorry
No need for plasticiser then, I take it the sbr does both jobs?
No, as far as I am aware you do not need plasticiser when you use SBR.
The SBR makes the mix really sticky!
Thanks for the comment
What's SBR? Is it expensive ? Does it make a project more costly?
SBR makes the mortar stronger and more sticky, it costs about £22 for 5L

Did you use sharp sand, or building sand?
Building sand
Thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks. Would you use this mix to bed ridge tiles on too?
@@DC-sf5rk You could do, but you only really need the fibre adding to the mix when you are pointing them up, after bedding them down ;-)
Hi, could you use this mix to make fibre reinforced cement boards if you left it to cure in a mould?
I'm not sure, as it is something that I have never done. I assume it would work, but I have never tried it.

hi! what type of fiber is it?
They are known as concrete fibres/screed fibres- fave.co/3HmCTJm
