Good take. My personal opinion on the three temptations is that each of them may represent something that most people desire but is impossible to truly have and will lead them to do evil or support it and by extension reject all that is true and good: the first temptation, turning stone to bread represents the desire for reality and everything around you to be as malleable as clay and to be able to turn it and reshape it to satisfy one's wishes and desires, specially ones basic and material desires. It is basically the rejection of reality itself simply because is not what you want it to be. The second, to jump and have God's angels to just show up and save you. It represents the desire for the world and the universe itself to revolve around you and serve you to the point that it will protect from the consequences of your own wrong action. In other words: main character syndrome. The third one, offering the kingdoms of the world. Basically is the desire to have authority, in other words control of everyone around you and to have their lives revolve around your desires. And this comes in the form of "the kingdoms of the earth" because this represents the practice of this idea (authoritarianism) where the kings/rulers, or as we call the today, the governments, control our lives and rob us of our God given free will. Something that has always been al always will be an evil and just illogical idea that has cause nothing but suffering. Source: history.
The temptations of Jesus are said to represent the three main human characteristics that are intended to be deceived and corrupted: thinking, wishing, and feeling
Leave it to the false god to condemn you for free thought and knowledge. Jesus was the opposition that broke our shackles in the garden. That weak, jealous, vindictive, and tyrannical god is the deceiver. John 8:44.
The temptation of Jesus is a biblical story that appears in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke: The temptation After being baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus spent 40 days and nights fasting in the Judaean Desert. During this time, the devil tempted Jesus to sin in three ways: Turn stones into bread: The devil told Jesus to do this if he was the Son of God. Jesus replied, "It is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God". Throw himself from the temple: The devil told Jesus to do this if he was the Son of God. Jesus replied, "Again it is written, you shall not put the Lord, your God to the test". Worship the devil: The devil offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if he would worship him. Jesus replied, "Get away Satan! It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve".
but everyone could claim to be son of god and cite these lines and they are no better then jesus. monotheistic religion is just deception to worship man instead of nature. the old gods never asked for nothing.
The last temptation that Jesus went through when the devil offered him the world, the reason why it was such a great temptation was because it was a shortcut pretty much that the devil was offering because Jesus knew if he sacrificed himself on the cross, he would eventually rule the world and the nations that’s why it was a great temptation because the devil was basically saying you don’t have to go to the cross and die for this flawed people. I can just give them to you now and the world and the nations.
I understand that temptation. I joined the Army at 18 and retired at age 39. Now, imagine if my Father would have given me a million dollars when I was 18. It would have ruined my life, because, instead of earning a million dollars thru hard work, I would have spent it, and then regretted it for the rest of my life. It’s like a lottery winner blowing thru their winnings.
My take on the temptations is that each of them may represent something that most people desire but is impossible to truly have and will lead them to do evil or support it and by extension reject all that is true and good: The first temptation, turning stone to bread represents the desire for reality and everything around you to be as malleable as clay and to be able to turn it and reshape it to satisfy one's wishes and desires, specially ones basic and material desires. Satan was very insidious here. It's not a simple list of temptations. He tried to get Jesus to contradict the scriptures, which were the inspired word of God, his ultimate identity. In effect, he was trying to trick Jesus into negating his own divine existence by giving into incoherence because God's nature is perfectly coherent and he cannot contradict himself.
He certainly doesn't seem very smart, in terms of more modern beliefs with the God of Abraham allegedly being omnipotent and omniscient and the Trinity with the God of Abraham, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus allegedly being the same being. What could he offer an omnipotent, omniscient being, and why would an omnipotent, omniscient being worship him? Why would the son of an omnipotent, omniscient being - or anyone who believes that an omnipotent, omniscient being exists - worship him (especially against the wishes of the omnipotent, omniscient being)? And how did he not know that Earth isn't flat and that there were more kingdoms than anyone could see from the top of a mountain?
2:10 Flat Earth. 😂 And this story indicates that Jesus wasn't the God of Abraham or omnipotent and omniscient. It's one of many examples of different people who made up different stories, that were included in the Bibles, having different (and often contradicting) beliefs.
