Sentry Savannah is the Air National Guard’s largest fourth and fifth generation counter-air, large-force exercise, held annually at the Air Dominance Center, Savannah Air National Guard Base, Georgia. One of four Combat Readiness Training Centers in the United States, the Air Dominance Center (ADC) conducts Air-to-Air Combat Training Missions for 4th and 5th generation reservist and active-duty fighter pilots.
Running from May 2 - 15, Sentry Savannah allows fighter Units from across the country come to Savannah to train together on integrated tactics such as ground training, offensive/defensive counter air missions, cruise missile defense and weapon drop training on the range.
the F-117 Nighthawk from Tonopah Test Range. In fact, one F-117A (believed to be part of a unit known as the “Dark Knights”) has deployed to Georgia (and, to our knowledge, this is the first time the Stealth Jet deploys to the East Coast) and is currently taking part in Sentry Savannah.
The aircraft, registration 84-0828, along with the ‘TR’ tail code sports a 40 years of operations logo on both tails: it’s the first time we spot an emblem that celebrates the 40th anniversary since the maiden flight that took place on Jun. 18, 1981.

I was assigned to the 4450th Tactical Group at Tonopah 88-91 and deployed with them to Khamis Mashit during DESERT STORM. Was the highlight of my 23 year career in the Air Force. Doesn't surprise me that they probably sent some of these back to Groom Lake and kept them operational. When they were still in the black world, they flew lots of places that the public never knew, and may still be doing that today.
Awesome thanks for watching
Did you know a pilot by the name of Mike Sackley? I supported the 445th out of Nellis just remember the A7 cover plan.
I was an AGE mechanic with the 4450th between 1988 and 1991. Great times.
Jel vam poznato da je ta kanta oborena iznad jugoslavije to jest danasnje srbije
Koliko ste ljudi poubijali u svetu sa tom kantom. Na kraju je završio u blatu u Srbiji 1999-e.
Incredible to see these back in action. Amazing catch!
Thanks it was amazing
It VERY expensive to operate those per hour, so if they have them out flying around.... there is a reason.
@@ILSRWY4 they are being used probably as aggresors in simulations
Very awesome to see something so 'retro-futuristic' in modern times. Well done for capturing it.
Thanks for watching
My Army Guard unit used to billet there when we traveled to Savannah. We would marvel at the quality of Air Force accommodations.
Nice
Everyone made fun of us (usaf) until they realize our base/billeting setups ha.
@@AUav8r05 I was TDY at Rota NAS and our team chief told the Navy billeting officer that Navy billeting was below Air Force standards. We ended up in a nice hotel downtown with free rental cars.
amazing to think this was designed in the late 70's, manufactured in the 80's and not revealed until 1990 after having been used secretly in operations during that time completely unseen and is now unclassified w/some on display in museums. Having served in the USAF and worked on F-16's it's absolutely amazing at what weaponry and technology the US military complex possesses and has the funds to develop and use.
I lived in the Antelope Valley for 25 years. During this plane's heyday. It has a disturbingly loud engine sound. Very crisp. Beautiful engineering.
Thanks for watching
Awesome thanks for watching
If THIS is the technology they're retiring, imagine what they have in active service today that they're not telling us about.
Agreed
The best tech is most certainly kept under wraps.
THIS is old technology.can the U.S Govt declassify the TR-6 Telos already.
@@weworks7811 Yes, it is, I just checked. So as a guess the US has probably been working on their next generation of stealth. If the F22 was 2nd generation stealth tech in a 5th generation jet then what comes next might be 3rd generation stealth in a 6th gen jet. Other combinations are possible. The unmanned drones like the XB47 are already very stealthy by design. Maybe 3rd gen stealth tech applied to the XB47 would increase it’s survivability.
The retirement idea started after the Serbs with the help of the Russians shot one down over Serbia in the 1990s. At this time we knew that it is becoming an old technology.
Super mega awesome video buddy!!
Thanks
After working on active duty at the Tonopah Test Range for a few years ('89-'92) in the black world, it's nice to see it again, out in the daylight.
Agreed thanks for watching
Love it, thanks for sharing !!
Anytime hope you enjoy the video
@@Epicaviation47 Love it that much that I subscribed :)
Hey man. Great to meet you at RIAT the last few days (my Dad and I were sat next to you in FRIAT). Great vids. I haven't even been skipping the ads!
Awesome thanks for watching and nice to meet you 😀. Hopefully I see you next year
Excellent videography!!!
Thanks i really appreciate it 🙏
So happy to see it fly!! Looks more modern than anything flying today. Would love to see one taxi next to a SR-71.
I agreed thanks
Got see a couple of these airborne when I was still in the Army, amazing to watch them in the air
Awesome
Thats a very rare catch !! Awesome that you see one in real !!!
Thanks broooo indeed. It was a mega rare catch
This thing is still a technological marvel, it's the SR-71 of my day.
Agreeed
Yugoslavia 1999. :-)
These along with the SR-71, U-2 and B-2, and more make up a certain genre of unusually designed stealthy aircraft that have left an impression in history quite unlike any other aircraft.
23 years ago it came to the Rochester international Airport airshow. It put a brilliant display for the show. Afterwards it was in need of repair and was on the tarmac under guard for about a week till the military could get the part or parts it needed.
Nice
I'm pretty sure that plane was at the Geneseo Air show right around the same time. I remember the armed guards around the roped off plane. Blue Angels did an amazing job too
Awesome 🤩🤩 I love it ♥️
Thanks it was a epic surprise
My Home airport when I used to fly. Loved when the air guard trained here. So many memories including as a student pilot way back when... I was "asked" by tower if I would mind holding a few minutes for Air Force 1 to land (with President Reagan). I said yes let him go first LOL. We have 22's that train here, very awesome planes! Would love to see a Nighthawk but they weren't around here when I was flying...
Thanks for watching
Worked on her at Area51 from 85-89 when she was a Black Project. Great times with the Lockheed Engineers.
Awesome 👌
I was with the Skunkworks as well. Worked at both Burbank and the Ranch./Tonapah in flight test. Remember the first day at the Ranch no waiting to glasses... they came told me I was good to go, pays to have a father who was there with the U2 and A12/SR71 prior... legacy.
I smell a whole bunch of bullshit !
I wish one day I could see this thing flying with my own eyes!
You will brooo . I know you will thanks for watching.
solid camera work dude, also OF COURSE YOU GET ANOTHER F117!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks broo 🙏 i really appreciate it. Awesome week 🙌
Nice find! Would love to see the F-117 again!
Hope you can see it one day
Say what you want but to me this is amazing sight even today.
I just wish there were some F-14`s in flying condition, for the air shows.
Agreed
41 F-14s are in service with Iranian air force, 24 are upgraded
@@jupiter3678 Sure, but we won't see those in Europe or USA.
I saw one at Edwards AFB, California back in the mid 1980s. It rolled right by us on the flight line. It looked like something right out of Star Wars. Bad ass plane.👍
Thanks for watching
Wow what a sight. Thanks
Yes
The Wobbly Goblin... if you know you know... worked on her for five years at the Skunkworks when she was still deep black.
Awesome 👌 thanks for watching
1:26 that take was amazing!
Thanks I really appreciate it 🙏 don't forget to Subscribe and stay tuned for more videos.
Damn! You're so lucky!!!! It's like watching a scyfi movie!! Amazin catches bro!!!
Thanks broo i really appreciate it
This is my fav plane right here. It literally looks like its from 300 years in the future.
Indeed thanks for watching
I saw these I believe many years ago near Minot AFB. Amazing beast when it flew over.
Awesome
Dude! From SoCal and had family in aerospace when I was a kid - work at the Port of Savannah now - freaked out on the terminal when I saw it fly over.
“Bro! Did you see that?” They didn’t get why I was so amped
It was so epic
@@Epicaviation47 is it flying Sat and Sunday?!
Hard to believe the F-117 is 30-35 years old now. I still remember the first look during the '90-'91 Gulf War, still a marvel to behold. Thanks for posting..this is Not of Hunter AAF but the actual International airport in Savannah?
Thanks for watching
40+yrs old.
This still looks today like something from the future, and way ahead of even an F-35 in appearance. I saw a pair of these flying at RIAT here in the UK back in the day with a Stealth B2 Spirit Bomber and it was like watching a Batman film. With it's super streamlined appearance, why did they stop making and using them ?
Unfortunately i can't go to riat this year hopefully in 2023
Well they retired but keep using for training purposes
@@Epicaviation47 But WHY was such a futuristic aircraft retired early ?
@@MrTuftynut Probably because they have something better. What that is, they have no need to disclose to the public.
@@MrTuftynut Because its old and limited in its capabilities. As a stealth platform, it was figured out years ago. The F-35 can do everything the F-117 can do 5x better with less maintenance and has the ability to defend itself .
Had no idea they are flying a f117 again im so stoked to even see this on a video
Oh yes they are thanks for watching I do have another one in Fresno 2 F-117 land there
Sick!!!
Indeed broo
United holding short there at 3:45 must have been like ..."bro...you seeing this??"
Hahahahaa right
Nice to see the relics of the past being ressurected ✌🏼
Agreed thanks for watching
Beautiful fighter design
Agreed
I never assume anything is retired until all know units are in museums like the space shuttle but wow how cool to see this fly
Agreed it was awesome 👌 thanks for watching
@@Epicaviation47 I've seen a B1 and a B2 even both B29's (by accident) but this is so rare I took it off my bucket list. Thanks for what you do👍🇺🇸
In either 1985 or 1986, I was driving at 100+mph west on US 50 and at about 3am to 4am in the morning I was approaching Fallon AFB. An F117 landed next to me but I couldn't clearly see what it was, but I knew it wasn't normal. I can't remember if I was going slightly faster than it was landing, or if it was going slightly faster than I was driving. It was just a few months later that one crashed in the Sierra and local news helicopters were restricted from flying over the area.
Wow thanks for watching
11july 1986, major Ross E.Mulhare
Beyond sick
Agreed
I see "TR" as the tail code, but no registration number anywhere on it?
On the landing gear have the reg
Lucky enough to see a couple of Nighthawks when they came to the U.K. for the AIR Tattoo.
Awesome brooo it was awesome to watch it up close.
could one of these be at Nellis for Aviation nation in November ?
That will be awesome 👌
Timeless design.
Agrees 👍
Awesome!!! Very suspicious the USAF reactived the "Stinkbug"
They never been take out of service
Its powerful
Wow they are coming so fast for landing - I would guess it is like 200 knots or more?
Maybe
0:13 thor guard siren at the middle
The nighthawk still alien from the front. !
If this Bader's Hangar inspired Black Jet be redesigned to have afterburner, will it perform what an "F" it is designated as one...a Fighter?
Yes thank for watching
Nope...
I miss turning wrenches on these things... Holloman 1998-2006
it´s a dream
Yes
Is that the future 😮
I wish
Roger wilco! ❤
Thanks for watching
It's a shame they don't send some F-117's on the airshow circuit. We all know they're still flying. What better way to keep them flying than keeping up with airshow schedules?
Are these planes being brought out of retirement?
Not really they never get retired they keep in flying conditions
but did you see the MiG-28s at 6:02?
Hahaha 😂
wait there is TR on the plane then does it mean it is in the Turkish air force? 🤔
Coming down heavy, probably testing new heavy payload
Thanks for watching
I lived under the KSAV landing path for a few years working at Gulfstream. Getting a free airshow multiple times a year is something I'll always miss
Indeed thanks for watching
Why did they bother with the chute on these things?
Mandatory on this plane
The plane is very heavy relative to its braking system so they added the drag chute to make the brakes last longer.
Its Very expensive to operate those per hour, so if they have them out flying around.... there is a reason.
Thanks for watching
at 1:30 the plane looks like a cyclops thing.
Indeed thanks for watching
@@Epicaviation47 I wonder what that "eye" thing is
Tweety
Ok
Why did they bring it out of retirement?
They never retired the F-117
They just took it out of the public spot light by saying its retired
ไม่มีอะไรที่เหมือนเครื่องบิน f 35
Ok
Did they decide to bring it back because its superior to f35?
Not really
I think this 3 Edge Plane is a new Way to give Planes an other Figure.I think this is a new Kapitel from Planes. But I don´t like 3 Egde Motorbikes or something. I think that looks total crasy
I would like to see this Plane in reality. I do only know this plane from an Pc Games which is called Microprose F117A Nighthawk
Is tough but not impossible thanks for watching
مشكيلا

These may be 30+ yr old birds but I'd much rather see them flapping their wings then shrink wrapped at Tonopah!
Yes
‘’They’’ never retired it.
Yeap nevet
Looks like was made at Area 51.
Maybe
Actually built in Burbank, CA at the Skunkworks plant. Incredible to believe that it could be kept quiet there isn't it?
There using them to simulate the Chinese stealth jets in combat exercises
Yes thank for watching
