I never believed in "cost per wear" BUT I do believe in "smile per gaze"!! When I look at a bag and it makes me smile instantly then I know it was and is worth it. Because it makes my heart beat faster and gives me happiness. And that sums it up for me. And in my mind it suddenly all makes sense right then and there.

As much as I love a good old fashioned luxury handbag unboxing, I have to say that I equally enjoyed watching you in the kitchen prepare Arancini (risotto balls) to take to work. I would love more lifestyle content from you whether at home or when you’re out and about window shopping! I wouldn’t get worried Dayle, that is a concept that I never got from u-tube. For me a cost per wear would be for something that you use everyday and you would calculate years and years after. In my case, I bought a gold rolex in 2005 and I used it for 13 years non stop until I sent it to service, or my daily jewerly that I use everyday. Or as you mentioned, an only one handbag, such as my mom is still using a handbag that I bought in 1999. But that kind of cost nobody would be able to calculate until years and years later, not when one has just bought a luxury purchase, especially if its a handbag and there are quite a few to choose from.
Take care Dayle and don’t go down the rabbit hole on this concept! it doesn’t make sense for new purchases 💡
    Have an excellent day! 😘

I haven’t used CPW as a measure or as a rationale in a long time because as you said once you have more than 3-4 of anything in the same category, it’s not a legitimate way to look at a purchase. I think one of the most poignant things you said was towards the beginning when you asked if you would rent the bag for $80/day and the answer was no. I would never judge anyone on cost per wear. Or for the amount of luxury bags someone possesses/the amount spent per bag. What I am really interested in, is hearing about the thrill such an amount of bags bring. In the past 8 years I have brought 3 luxury bags, none above 2000 Dollars. Partly because I cant afford more if I follow my other Interests and spend money on my big family (3 daughters, 6 grandchildren) But also, because I find it hard to imagine, that if I was to buy unending bags, they could still give me the same amount of joy and thrill that the occasional luxury bag does. I keep my new bag on my bed for weeks, staring at it and all that kind of stuff ☺ So, I would be very interested in hearing about this aspect about regularly buying lots of bags. By the way, love your vids ❤

Great video! Very interesting points/findings. At least you know which bags you could wear more to get more use out of them. I don’t really look at cpw but I gauge frequency. The way I see it is that my bags are bags I feel will have a very long time probably for a lifetime so as long as they are available to enjoy at any point in my life I am happy and cpw will come down over the years but the cpw concept is very interesting when you look at it for a year. Thanks for sharing ❤️

      @elinalall3475 5 місяців тому

@@DaylesAddiction Thanks Dayle and enjoy! The "rental" price was an eye opener for sure but whether someone rents or not I think that depends on several things for each person. For me, the luxury boutiques are located around my city and there are preloved boutiques that I could go to if I wanted to see a bag in person, try some of my items in the bag or try on a few times so for myself I would rather put any money towards the purchase of the bag or on something else but renting may work better for some.

I think cost per wear, is real and if you have bags for say, five years that’s when the true cost per wear applies and since you have so many that means the majority if not all will be an amazing condition in five years and you still have your cost per wear down. I also think of it like this, when you go on vacation yes, you have the memories you have a wonderful time but then it’s gone. You literally have absolutely nothing to show for it with these bags, They’re expensive, but you get joy every single day by looking at them by using them, knowing that you could have them literally for the rest of your life and you could also pass them on or sell them after having them for five or 10 years or more and you could actually break even, possibly lose a little money, or even make a little money if you hold onto them long enough, and they are from one of the most popular sought after fashion, houses ,
And again, I’m only talking about money that we use for pleasure not money that we would use to buy real estate or investment otherwise. so as far as spending your money on something silly, I think handbags are pretty good way to spend your extra money

When it comes to luxury purchases, my approach changes based on my financial situation. When I have ample funds at my disposal, I seldom ponder over the practicalities; my choices are guided purely by what captivates my heart. The joy of indulging in what I truly love takes precedence, without the weight of cost considerations. However, in times when my budget is tighter, my decisions become more calculated. I weigh the pros and cons, considering various factors before making a purchase. It’s important to recognize that there’s no right or wrong in being rational or impulsive-it varies for each individual and depends largely on their circumstances. Luxury, for me, is not just about owning something expensive; it’s more about the freedom to choose without constraints when circumstances allow.

Oh goodness never do math especially cost per wear. I am a very good receipt keeper and added up all my jewelry purchases ages ago long before the luxury bags started and the shock it left me in taught me to never do that again ha ha! Beautiful things are not always practical or used the most but if they bring us joy then so be it! Look at the rent from the opposite view, someday you may want to let that bag go and the cost of rent per wear will be significantly offset the other way around.

The cost per wear has to be over the (projected) lifetime of the bag, not in a year. As an example, a bag you bought in December you may have worn only once (crazy cost per wear) but over say 3 years, 100 times.
Having said that…I like what one viewer wrote. What may matter more is Cost per Gaze and if you add all of ours 🤩🤩🤩 you’d have negative cost per wear 😅 thanks for showing us your beautiful collection.

At X-mas rec'd Amarante pochette (24S) & lost my mind over the color. Was looking for a preloved Amarante Alma but decided Melrose had a good inside capacity. NEVER thought of CostperWear until hubby brought this subject up with my clothes & was shocked! Honestly, thought I was careful. @@DaylesAddiction maybe do some research. Because I was surprised today you can even lease a phone. My husband wanted this new galaxy whatever and it's like 2500 which to me is insanity but you can "lease it" I don't know the exact name but it's like a car lease for 2 years and if you're the kind of person that changes phones anyways every two years or sooner it makes much more sense (well in my calculations) I on the other hand have had the same phone for like 6 years so ok then it makes sense to own it. But I just discovered this option here in Canada (regarding bag rentals there's at least 3 or 4 websites) so you never know if this is a thing in Australia for bags as well. I imagine it's not a discussed topic because it would be considered "cheap" to rent a bag but I don't give a rats ass what people think and I think you're also not too prohibited by others opinions anyway so it might make sense hopefully there is something similar in Au

Not sure if it's selective hearing or another form of girl math, but I actually didn't hear how much the total was 😅 (and I'm too scared to count myself lol).
It's funny how we tend to spend more on fancy or special occasion things which don't get worn often, and less so on our daily life. For example a reasonable price for a pair of jeans that you wear 3 times a week might be 50€ but an evening dress that get's worn once every other year 500€. You might spend more on eating out on a holiday, but buy the no brand pasta that's on sale for home cooked meals.
I love the idea of balance, and occasion-wear will inherently be more expensive due to the materials, but I've been paying more attention to the things that I use/wear a lot. I mean.. A lot. Jeans, knitwear, winter coats/boots - things that get worn weekly. And I wonder why I've been wearing the same two sweaters for a month. Why do I keep reaching for them - what are the common denominators? Because I should get more things with those features and reduce the wear of those original items so they last me longer. So I've been upping my budget for the pieces that make up my everyday "uniform" and reducing it for things like strappy sandals, cocktail dresses and clutches.
Anyway. Loved the video, very honest and very Dayle as usual! 20 bags in one year is a lot, but they've all been incredibly YOU 😘!

lol this is hilarious! but wait let me put more girl math out there. the way i calculate cost per wear is not to divide the cost of the bag per wear, but to use the delta between what i paid for the bag, and what i could conservatively potentially sell the bag for as a used good condition piece. Eg bought for $7000 but can realistically sell for $4500. that puts the lifetime “rental” of the bag at $2500. so if i wear that 25 times, its $100 per wear. these are luxury bags, they have some resale value and are assets in their own right. i hope i have at least some folks here agree with this logic 🫣😆

Anything you purchased in the second half of the year would have not had the time to increase the number of times you wore it. You need to put a per week cost into the equation. The other thing you need to factor into cost per wear is the enjoyment factor. Can you put a price on that?

When I think about cost per wear (I usually think about it when trying to decide whether to buy a bag) I don't think about it on a 1 year horizon but 10 year. So for example, your LV carryall cost $82 per wear in 2023....but if you use it that way for 10 years, cost per wear is only $8.2. Even your most expensive bag on the 10 year horizon would only cost $336.7 per wear! Your example of 500 wears on the carry-all sounds insane in the short term (life is too short to wear the same bag every day, lol). But over a 10 year horizon it's not so crazy at 50 times per year, especially since you used it 61 times last year.

With your LV work bag, I assume you claimed it as a tax deduction? Was your cost per wear calculated on the cost post-deduction? That may soften the blow. I often think about cost-per-wear across my wardrobe, and realised the price you buy the item for is critical! I try to buy most pieces on sale (some items second hand), and sometimes recoup some of the initial outlay if I sell the item when I’m done with it. Some pieces will never be worth buying though…you may be better off renting if it’s just for occasional wear

You can’t do this with bags you only bought last year, Dayle. I reckon you need to have had them 12 months before you can do this type of calculation. Yes to getting low cost per wear with regular clothing but luxury purchases - never! That’s what makes them luxury 😊.
Would you consider exploring bag creep again but instead of the cost, how it goes from 1 bag say every 3 months to one 1 bag every month? Money aside and you not labelling yourself as a ‘collector’, I’m curious what makes people continue to buy multiples of things they already have a good amount of? I bought 4 pairs of Vejas last year and I’m like, ‘Woman, get a grip’, 😂.
