    I like the comments section, most people are reasonable and have an opinion (keep it or sell it) and then you get the people who are slightly jealous of anyone who has a modicum of success. They seem to think you're an ass because you took a punt on a Porsche but these are the people who will sit in their parents home never going anywhere because they're scared life might give them some lemons. We all know the old saying "If life gives you lemons then make lemonade" so Joe buys a Porsche, it needs some work, he documents it and might break even. Well done Joe and power to ya fella, if there were more people in society with your drive and enthusiasm the world would be a better place.

    Nice looking car. Your man gives off a real pro vibe. Knows his stuff. It’s going to be one of those, “ feck it, I’m going all in, on this one” kinda projects. Fingers crossed if you go ahead with it. Everything pans out, and you end up with a nice car to drive around with, later in the spring. Brilliant story telling by the way 🤟

    Considering what I paid for my 996 Cabriolet with less than half the mileage of your car I think you are on the right side for a rebuild and get it sorted, at the same time replace the IMS bearing while the engine is out. You should then be able to break even or at the very least get some enjoyment out of it yourself for 12 months or so.

    If it was anyone else, Joe, I'd be telling you to part it out. As you have some YT revenue and are a dealer, then it widens your optins, ie: fix it, or put it back through the auction. As others have said, it would be nice to see some tinkering content, especially from the clear and easy to understand Ben. I hope as you clearly love the car, that she gets fixed - Good Luck!

    Good video it was well worth buying at that money looks a clean nice example .
    Get the water leak fixed use it for a few weeks see if it’s using oil if not get an engine machine shop to have a look at the head to see what’s tapping and avoid spending money for an engine repair at any Porsche specialist as they usually use a local engine machine shop to do the work . As a car dealer no reason to be paying for the specialist tax when it’s not them doing the machine work.

    Forget the piston bore refurb and just look into checking valve clearances first. If you can get rid of the tapping, and the car pulls well and no emission problems for MOT. Leave it there.

      @TJSTR Годину тому

      @@derekburgess the downside of doing nothing is that, if it is bore scoring, there are lots of little bits of metal and combustion materials mixing with the oil. This may damage other parts of the engine while you wait to do the inevitable rebuild work. I’ve been told that some people do just live without though and sometimes for years. Progression really differs a lot from car to car. There are useful videos in the focus on bore scoring section of LN Engineering’s UA-cam channel explaining how to reduce damage (good oil changed frequently is one thing, for example).

Also, if you are going to completely resleeve the block you can also put in larger liners and new pistons and upgrade to a 3.8L and get more bottom end torque. High ownership on a porsche is normal.
    Bore score, can be a hit and miss issue - unfortunately it looks like it on this vehicle. But the mechanic is right, expect to spend more once you start. It only makes sense to do other work whilst the engine is out. For the same reason, I'd just take the pill and do all cylinders, that way you won't run the risk of it happening again!

    Bore scoring causes the tapping noise and sooty passenger side exhaust. I know from experience. I had mine rebuilt two years ago. Common for cylinders 3 to 6 score. I had all six resleeved to hopefully future proof. Get IMS done while it's out. Full chain and tensioner set. My list goes on and on because I didn't want to take it out again. £10k won't cover everything you should get done while it's out I'm afraid. You should still be quids in because of what you paid for it. Good luck. I look forward to watching it rebuilt.

    To be honest the owners doesn't mean anything im the 15th owner of my car and to be honest it's nothing to be ashamed of 😊 it came with logbook handbook and everything else just do it up a little and sell it if it's worth it I had to get a new steering rack decently for mine going down the A52 and hit a pothole cost me £400 to get it sorted it won't see that money from the government.

    That ticking sound for me is a tappet or valve clearance, but I don't know Porsche's, but my thoughts are definitely in the heads

    You are very unlucky with this. I’ve bought them in the trade years ago and other than rms (which isn’t that bad to do) and considerable service items always been good.

    You don’t want to buy one of these without a bore score report and be aware that some people will present a clean bore score but not from the car they are selling.
