Dehumidifier Not Draining From Hose!

- Just a quick fix if water isn't draining from discharge hose/line and instead is just filling the dehumidifier's water collection bucket.

So elementary yet here I am looking for solution. Thanks a bunch.
Here was the issue with my unit. Behind the bucket is a latch/sensor that is released when a float mounted inside the bucket reaches its apex. I simply had the bend the latch forward a little. This was still a factor despite draining to a hose.
Had a similar problem, but instead of bending the latch, fixed it by sticking a small but strong magnet to the one built into the floater. I think over time the built in magnet weakened. Super easy fix.
Thank you so much! I’m a first time homeowner and this was really helpful!
Yup. I had my dehumidifier set to drip directly into the sub pump. No hose. So I wiggled a large zip tie into the hose attachment. Sure enough, water and a little clump of mud shot out. Now it is dripping out the back again.
Thanks
Thank you! You are the only one with this information on You Tube. :)
I did everything you said and it worked....Thank you for this video:)
Thank you I couldn’t figure out how to get the hose off as I don’t want to use it anymore. Also, my filter was filthy dirty.
It worked! Thank you very much for the video...
clogged hose line for us.. thanks for the suggestion
It was a clog. Thank you!
Thanks. Great advice.
Thank you so much!!!
Could not figure out why the hose on my dehumidifier was not working & Frigidaire customer service was no help. I never thought to take the hose off, take it outside and run water through it, but there was stuff in there, and this was the problem. Thanks.
Glad you found an answer! Sometimes it is something the tech support folks don't think of, lol!
I think I have the exact same model, and the problem I keep having is an orange-brown goop that builds up in the drain hose and the discharge port. I think it may be corrosion from the alleged brass connector on the hose. I have searched for reasonably priced hoses with plastic or nylon connectors but haven't found any yet.
thank you, very helpful.
Thank you
I heard connecting it to the connected side helps
Not clogged, new attachment properly attached so it can drain right to my sump pump that’s connected to a lawn hose and once filled drained and emptied to the outside area .
Same as the last 10 plus years and it’s only 2-3 years old identical to the original one. I ain’t Bob Villa, no relation to Mr. Goodwrench and
Mcguyver isn’t around little help here .
Mine is brand new and has the “empty” notice and the hose is pointed down. I don’t know if there is a setting for allowing the hose to fill up???
Did all that and the water still doesn't come out the hose. Is there some kind of hose attachment that you attach to the hose before you screw it into the dehumidifier?
Jay, what is that 2nd line running up behind the unit? Do you have to connect the drain hose AND the smaller tube at the same time? If so, why not run that one into the drain like the big hose?
There isn't a second line. The two things running up and down the wall are the power cords...one for the dehumidifier and the other for the sump pump under the wood panel on the floor. :)
My ocean breeze model has a second small hole in the rear as well. Not sure why. ? Will look it up on line.
My brand new dehumidifier is draining through the hose supplied by the maker however, it is also draining into the bucket and shutting off! I have now taken that plastic tubing off and replaced with a more round garden hose that is sturdier. The hose that came with the unit is not at all kinked! Do you think that the circumference of the garden hose will make a difference? I used this same garden hose on my last Dehumidifier but now I have a different make of dehumidifier and it may be a gravity problem so just tell me what you think! The hose that came with the unit hose was only draining some water and the bucket gets full and shuts off. I had cut the hose supplied with the unit as it was way too long but that didn't make a difference or at least I didn't give it a chance to. The other thing is I could place the dehumidifier up on a higher crate. What do you suggest?
It "could" be a problem with elevation and hose should be not be horizontal (or going up) to the location you are draining into (assume sump?) Elevation may work but also make sure that your drain hose is FIRMLY screwed onto the discharge port. If too loose it will drip into the unit's bucket.
My house isn't clogged but still my reservoir seems to be the only place the water seems to be going
Anela...I have seen one time where the clog was in the connector piece inside the dehumidifier rather than the drain hose itself. You may want to check that part as well. Also make sure the hose is connected tightly.
@@AverageJay12 ok, thank you. I didn't even think of that
@@AverageJay12mine is brand new, no clogging and having the problem
I have the hOme brand dehumidifier and when I remove the garden hose to flush it out I also get a pipe cleaner or qtips and clean the inside of the fitting that the hose attaches to. It can also get clogged with goop and force the water into the resevoir. Pipe cleaner or a thin bottle brush does the best job for this. I also set my unit on top of an old plastic milk crate for better air circulation and a steeper drop of the drain hose into the sump pump well.
Our hose is hooked up to the discharge port, no constriction, no blockage, put the bucket back in the dehumidifier and the bucket still filled up! What’s going on here? Thx
Yeah mine from Canadian Tire (NOMA brand )did that as well. I had to clog a hole to prevent water from going down the bucket. It was never mentioned in the manual... weird....
Just curious how old that dehumidifier is, I understand that modern ones only last a year or two.
That one is three years old. Bought in spring of 2018. It really is a workhorse and I have had no problems with the machine itself (only the blocked drain hose!)
Mine is at 5 years.
I cleared a clog in the connector piece. The tube was abt 15% occluded. I had to soak and scrub to get it clean. I'm still having problems.
Make sure that in addition to the connector piece you run water at high pressure through the hose. Sometimes those cobwebs really stick!
Mine has emptyied through the hose for 10 years and now all of a sudden it stopped. I checked hose and it is not clogged. WTF!
same here
Ditto stupid f’ing thing
Anyone find out the reason and how to fix the issue
Stupid f’ing thing
Mine too!
I do not have a clog. Water runs thru the hose fine. But when I hook it to the Freidrich dehumidifier with "Continuous Draining", it no longer drains thru the hose, but collects in the bucket instead. I have no idea what the issue is. HELP PLEASE
I too am a bit confused.
I’ve had it 3weeks in my storage room (288 sqft).
When I began the humidity read 70 on a separate meter.
I had it set up with the hose and had to empty the bucket although I installed the hose on the side. The hose was secure & hanging down properly. Not sure why the bucket was filling up for the first few days.
Question 1 : Does the bucket fill up and then the hose empties out the bucket or is the hose supposed to bypass the bucket so that the bucket stays dry?
Question 2: Now the level is 35% the bucket is dry and a little bit of water comes drips out the hose. So I’m not sure if the hose is doing the job or if it’s not working bec the level has now reached 35% and the unit is not drawing any more moisture.
Question 3: I now have it on Smart
Dry, will this turn itself on sleep mode or something so that the fan is not working constantly until the humidity goes up past 35%?
If the hose is clear and in position level or below the water "should" go through the hose and you should have a dry bucket. On smart mode it should automatically control the amount of humidity but despite the settings the water should always go through the hose if connected properly. A drip from the hose is correct...it won't flow, it will just drip. Sounds like it is set right for now. If it starts to go into the bucket again you may want to remove the hose and reinstall.
Is not going into the sump or the bucket... gotta troubleshoot some more.
Video was helpful. I would have cut out bad music and unnecessary footage.
I own a Freidrich "Continuous Drain" Dehumidifier. It's a very narrow hose which connects to the back of the unit (not a large garden hose). I cleaned the hose and ran water thru it. It's not clogged. Still, when I turn the unit on, it no longer drains thru the hose, but instead, collects in the bucket. I have no idea what the issue is. HELP PLEASE
Three other things to check. 1. Make sure drain hose is not resting in water...that will cause back pressure and not allow free draining. 2. Ensure the hose is TIGHTLY connected to the dehumidifier. 3. Make sure that the connection on the dehumidifier is clear and not just the hose. Sometimes debris backs up into the fitting itself on the dehumidifier. Good luck!
You worked on your dehumidifier without unplugging it from the outlet?
Yes, all the parts I came in contact with were plastic including the water collection bucket and the hose connection underneath.
This might be a silly question, but what is a pipe cleaner?
You can get them in craft stores. They are a thin metal rods covered with cloth bristles.
They left a port open with no way to close it easily
So you need a hose for these things? I live in flat..
Automatic drain does require a hose and drain point. Othwise you have to stay with the drain bucket.
But the Home dehumidifier works automatically when you connect the hose correct ?
@LubaLuba1 if no manufacturer defects if should as long as drain hose is installed tightly!
@@AverageJay12 could it be clogged the hose?
@@LubaLuba1 If you flush out the hose and still water goes into the reservoir then run a pipe cleaner inside the hose connection on the machine to see if there is anything clogging that part. Other than that it may just be a problem with the machine itself.
@@AverageJay12 Thank you so much I connected the hose and flushed nasty stuff out of hose now it is working great.
WHAT? MINE IS BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX. PRETTY SURE IT'S NOT CLOGGED WITH SPIDERS, WEBS, OR ANY KIND OF DEBRIS. THE HOSE IT CAME WITH IS LONG AND TINY. EVEN THOUGH I PUT IT ON " PUMP " THE RESERVOIR ( BUCKET) FILLS INSTEAD. I HAVE STAGE 4 COPD AND NEED THIS TO WORK. I CAN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE TO TAKE IT BACK. UGH!
Sorry to hear. This is just one of the things that can cause it (although it is usually the most common reason). Possible manufacture defect. Good luck and hope you get a unit that meets your health needs.
@Cherylstevens1592- long shot but worth a shot, where are you located maybe someone could help you idk exchange it for you possibly
