Oh. My. Days! 😮 Thank you for choosing my build for your #designmedevon series. I was getting ready to sit down for my Tuesday's helping of Devon Bumpkin, and my stomach hit the floor when I saw my build on the screen. In answer to some of your questions, you are right, this build was inspired by your Old School House creation featured as part of your Let's Build THE WORLDS series. I am also from the UK, South Wales, and my primary school was very similar to the build I created. I wasn't sure which angle you would take with the renovation of Henford Primary School, would it have been a new school, or possible apartments 🤔. Either way, I loved what you did with the place, and put your own stamp on it. Thank you very much again for choosing my build, and for giving me a shoutout, it was very much appreciated. This gave me such nostalgia! And I didn't go to school in England. Every year, after the big Xmas concert, Santa arrived, and gave every child in the school a paper lunch sack filled to the brim with assorted nuts, hard candies, chocolates, and an orange. It's the sort of thing no one would do now, but oh, it was such a treat for us little country mice.
I still have the coloured pencils I got from santa in primary school, they had our names engraved on them which was really exciting at the time (still would be if it wasn't my deadname rip)
In Sweden the name for the assembly room is usually Aula! That’s where you have graduation ceremonies, choir performances and plays set up 😊 My school had a marine theme so the name for ours were Däcket, which just means The Deck. Beautiful renovation as always 😍
We all must very much ensure we get Aden to share his fluffy donkey outfit with us!!! erm the picture that is... if he still fits in the suit well, that works for me too...

Oh Aden, this brought me such comfort today. We had to put my 11 year old husky, my soul dog, to sleep this weekend. Thinking of her crossing the rainbow bridge has consumed me the past couple of days but this build helped me think of something else for 28 minutes. Thank you. ❤
I've got an art folder absolutely stuffed with my two kids paintings and school stuff. Can't bear to just chuck them even though my son is in his 40s now lol.
I'm not British, but I am what you would consider a primary school teacher (I typically teach grades 5 & 6; ages 10-12), and it was such a lovely addition to the video tour to see children Sims and their teacher in the school. @DevonBumpkin Canadian primary, or "elementary" schools as we call them, are usually for ages 6-12 ish, sometimes a middle school appears for ages 10-12, then high school for ages 13-17 ish. 💛
The house is the grounds keeper house. Theres always a live in staff who looks after the property. Also I'm gonna assume kiddos get a meal on wheels 😅 Lovely nostalgia vibes as always. ❤
I think the most nostalgic thing for me is randomly finding a UA-cam channel that had all those documentaries teachers would put on when the tv was rolled out and you’d watch it cause it was semi-related to the subject. Subscribed so fast to it and occasionally listen to one or two just to reminisce on the days where I was part of an underground pokeman card trading market (it didn’t last long lmao)
Hair and sims building are absolutely artistic. On a different note, I don't remember my public schools being very festive around holidays. No plays, minimal decor. I feel like I may have missed out. But I suppose there was probably sensitivity in the US around celebrating a holiday in a public institution that was religion adjacent.
Not mine. I went to a Catholic elementary school and they celebrated all holidays (Bronx, NY). It was a pretty diverse school. I remember one of my classmates dressing up for Kwanzaa, he looked great. Anyway, we had Christmas plays and everything, it was really fun.
Absolutely in love with before and after! I remember when we would hold a holiday fair with music, baked goods, and little gifts and knick knacks we could buy for our families. The good ol' days!
Made me think of Christmas at school too! We had real candles (in a jar) on our desks. Then the teacher would dim the overhead lighting at times. It was magical! Wouldn't ever be allowed anymore today!

All Dogs Go to Heaven is even more heartbreaking when you learn about the murder that took place towards the end of filming. It’s a movie that starts out making you sob and then real life trauma makes it way worse.

in my primary school in Denmark which is actually very similar to British schools. it had 5 squares/sections. one big square in the middle with a library and old computers and cafeteria. and 4 smaller squares, which also has a square in the middle which was a small closed garden (maybe to avoid the school being to dark in the hall). and rows of class rooms all the way around maybe 14 classrooms per square. and it was all 1 plan no stairs. and we had very high ceilings so we also had a huge Christmas tree and all classes helped make decorations. our hallways was very long maybe around 1 km to walk all the way around in all the 5 squares. when it was dec 13 the choir sang Santa Lucia and walked all the way around. i did it one year and it was so beautiful. but because it was so long, we sang the song 4 times once for each section. i miss my old school just like you. spend all 9 years in that school. i wish i was a good builder so i could build it. i think i would have to use the 64x64 lot because we has a full size soccer field and a basketball curt and many playgrounds. and also 2 big indoor halls for sport. it was huge.
Where i grew up in Staffordshire, infants (reception, y1&2) was separate from junior school (y3,4,5&6). My senior school is/was one of the largest in the UK so was split across 2 buildings about 3/4's a mile apart. Lower school (y7,8&9) had 2 big sportd fields and had the changing rooms so upper school (y10&11+6th form[y12&13) had to walk over during break to have our PE lessons and then walk back during lunch or break - which sucked. I went to infants in an old Victorian building near my house which still to this day has a "caretakers' house on site just like the original build. My younger sister attended the newer infants school that was in the same area as the junior school and lower building of the senior school. The buildings were attached to 4 fields, the junior and infants schools each had a field and the senior school lower building had 2 fields. Senior school upper building only had a"yard" out of the back with a strip of grass before the hedges that lined the back entrance gate. By my 2nd year in secondary school it turned into an academy, good and bad points, the really old headteacher retired, he used to wear the whole black cloak outfit and girls weren't allowed to wear trousers! Year 7 was 1997 by the way!. New headteacher when it became an academy allowed girls trousers but they had to be bottle green (our school uniform was always bottle green but was just the tie. Jumper or cardigan, can you imagine getting bottle green school trousers - had to be ordered from the specialist school supplier and they "upgraded" the uniform to include bottle green blazers with the plaque of the school on the pocket. The 6th form didn't escape either, used to be black bottoms, white shirt, black jumper/cardigan with a silver tie with red stiched tiny plaque. Nope full blown black suit be it trousers or a skirt. Really wanted to go to college where they could wear whatever they liked but wasn't allowed by my mother, younger sister was allowed tho. Nearly 40 yo & I still hold a grudge....
You got me thinking about the library in my primary school. Old bookshelves, even older books, lovely librarian old lady and like 4 computers without internet connection where around 300 kids would play angry birds during breaks and refuse to let others play 🤣 In my three years there I think I only got to the computer twice😅. The computers were like from the 90s or early 00s (I went to primary school between 2011-2014 so these were pretty old for the standards but Polish education is really underfunded)
We used to only get enough time to watch half a film. Every year in primary it was something quite sweet. When I went to secondary, every year it was the first half of Chicken Run. One year they thought they'd mix it with PHSE and show us A Time To K*ll, only the first half of course. If you've seen that film, you know the first 10 mins are deeply traumatic. Safe to say, following many parent complaints, we went back to the safety of watching cartoon chickens trying to escape becoming pies.

I also saw your videos from the other worlds and I wanted to download the saves but the link doesn't exist😔 won't it be possible to download anymore? I too have often wondering if primary schools now still say prayers and sing hymns. I left primary school in 2008 and we used to say morning prayers and sing hymns in the morning assembly and say prayers before we left to go home. It wasn’t a Catholic or Church of England Primary school either, just a “normal” one.
Every time I watch your videos I’m reminded of how bleak American English sounds compared to British slang. Today: y’all get to do” roly poly”s on the hills vs what we just call “rolling down a hill” 😅
One of the elementary schools I went to had a hidden playground for the kindergarteners. But they didn't really have a playground for the school children, so when they banned Pokémon as kids would rather play than coming back to class, the older kids would steal things from the younger so they had to mix up when the grades went out. It was a mess. An not only that, the kindergarteners couldn't use the playground stuff as they were too small for it as it was meant for school children. So it just stood there, unused till it broke down due to the sun. I don't think there was a school nurse either.
Assembly's were the best in my primary school days (70s/80s) The slightly out of tune piano being played by the eccentric music or art teacher, all the kids cross legged on the floor singing hymns. My favourite was 'Give me oil in my lamp' There was always a few kids, including me, that used to add the unwritten flourishes to make it more exciting! Does anybody know what I mean by that? 😂
Excuse my teacher brain but I think the tv’s in the classrooms are supposed to be like interactive whiteboards? I could be wrong but thats what we use nowadays 😝
I’m 15 hours late because my dog a my bed no literally spent the night trying to stop her from eating my whole bed I fed her food and and made her cozy
