I have an MA-2 that I was issued while in the Air Force in the late 1990s. It’s the only jacket from my issued clothing that I still wear. It looks cool, is not heavy, and still fits great. Awesome jacket.
I swear you guys at GG are mind readers. I've been scrolling through options for bomber jackets these 2-3 nights, one that is befitting of a gentleman and this video is going to be of massive help in my search!
I wore my USWings G1 on a grocery run this evening. The USW G1 isn't a reproduction; they have been a supplier for the Navy, so you'll be wearing an "issue" jacket. It's a good mid-range jacket, a good value for the money. Sizes range from small to 3X. The G1s are cut "trim", so order a size larger than you'd wear in other coats.
I have a basic cheapie MA1 style flight jacket in green from JCrew. I think it’s a cotton blend. Anyway, I like it, looks good and fits nice. Definitely pairs well with a t-shirt, dark denim, and boots.
I am not a big bomber jacket person, but I do own one and like it. It has a nice removable insulation layer so I can wear it in the early fall to late spring.
I inherited my dad's G-1, the originals have a military fit which is a slimmer cut than the non military version. Ebay is good source but remember the sizing, if it's a military issue vs. civilian , adjust accordingly.
Good video as usual. I do differ in my opinion about non-leather jackets being bomber style. Though when I was in the navy aviators wore a nylon insulated jacket, I still hold that bomber jackets are leather. Aviator jackets are different. (They're not leather, for one.) The cloth versions you are calling bomber jackets, I consider to be grown from the varsity and coaching jackets family, versus bomber. I have a brown leather bomber I bought in Korea in 1988. It has cuts and scars the steer earned through its life visible to the viewer. I wear it mostly in spring and fall, and mostly over casual outfits, though I have used it to dress down a shirt and tie combo.
Yes!!! I owned One as my first motorcycle jacket and wish I had never eventually grown out if it. It was not cheap back In 1983 when I bought it for about 275 bucks. It was worth every penny. I had to put it on " layaway" until I could pay it off.
I don't mind the drums in the background but if they could be lowered by like 20% I'd be able to hear the presenter more clearly. I don't know if anybody else feels that way. Its not a massive deal just something I wish would change.
I have a red one currently so it's probably considered a bit more trendy but overall it's a nice looking jacket. Maybe someday I can get a Traditional Brown one. Keep up the good work gents.
I've worn a black leather bomber jacket for about 35 years now (same one, it's lasted great). I love it as it's warm and functional. Yet, it looks great with jeans and flannel shirts on up to office wear. Mine has a removable fur-like lining and a removable fur collar (which I always have removed).
As a military pilot, we don't call them bomber, just flight jacket. Also the G1 is only for Naval Aviators and was the M422. I have my issued G1 when I flew for the Navy and a A2 I got from Lost Worlds
I was tempted by the Spier Mackay Flight Jacket in white and black herringbone and I love it. Now I want the dark brown flight jacket but 650 is way too much for me.
You haven't mentioned Valstar. I'm happy to have their Valstarino dark brown suede jacket. Works perfectly with my brown Edward Green tassel loafers. For those who might consider Valstarino, you most likely will need to buy one size bigger (as I did), 'cause they are in slim fit.
I have the A2 bomber from Cockpit. It is goatskin. They are snug at the waist. I also have a leather racing jacket. I don't want to call it a motorcycle jacket because you would immediately think of Marlon Brando. It is slim with side slash pockets by Gap.
I bought a Schottt A2 style leather jacket with Fur collar from Schott europe( france) last year. It fits VERY snug, actually, with the jacket closed it is a bit diffucult to lace my shoes because the jacket works it's way up. But when standing or sitting, it fits perfect. If I get chubbier, I won't be able to close it anymore. The arms length is perfekt
I got a brown leather Alpha Industries G-1 a few years back and the only thing I dislike about it is I can't wear it when the weather goes above +5 or below -20 (celcius), on the bright side around here that means only like four months out of the year.
U.S. Wings has a vest version of the G-1 you might find more wearable during the summer. At first glance one might not recognize it as the same style of jacket as Maverick's from Top Gun, but a closer look shows all of the G-1's classic DNA: from the iconic detachable fur collar to the distinctive buttons on it's pockets, the waistband, the wind flap with USN perforated on it, the big brass zipper with leather pull, and the action back - it's all there except the sleeves and the patches. I really like how you can get a ton of different looks with it depending on what you wear underneath. It's just a really fun piece to experiment with.
Nowadays, as the demand for starching practices is very low, starching your day shirts is more of a personal thing. We may look into it for eveningwear purposes, though!
Inside... cigs and a lighter. Outside, or rather "tubes" stiched into the sleave pocket, pen and pencil... Enlisted Army guys would normally have a red pen or pencil to note aircraft status. Bird up or bird grounded.
I have a jacket called a 'Gab or Ricky' from the English vintage clothes maker Heyday. Is this a sub variant of these types of jacket? They look like they are between a bomber and varsity jacket. Big collars, cuffs, and mostly in bright colours.
Love your videos but that outfit bro…1) As a portlier gentleman you should avoid zipping up your jacket. 2) Those large cuffs with that much contrast are making your legs looks shorter, contributing to the portly effect. 3) Match your boots to the tone of your jacket.

I admit I would find non-military people wearing military badges or even rank insignia on such an item most confusing, but I think a m1a1 without such is perfectly acceptable. I don't know about the military you served in, but the one I served in defined uniforms as only valid uniforms when having insignia on them.

Actually silk on a-2s were only allowed for officers if they did a good job in combat so which is why it’s harder to find originals with the lining.

This has nothing to do with the subject of this video, but do you consider it gentlemanly to sing Dua Lipa in karaoke?
I have 3 Leather A2 bomber jackets. One was my grandfathers from WWII. He was a 82nd Airborne Paratrooper, they loved the A2 jackets.
