The 'quicksand' analogy for the time period between U/18's and first grade is extremely powerful! Will be using that to help players in that age group understand their landscape.
5-8s in Barcelona is called the “play phase”. Lots of balls, lots of fun, lots of practice (1v1;2v2;2v1 etc etc. practice is close to the game and the weekend matches are 5v5or mainly 7v7 (4x15 minutes) up to the age of 12 years. I introduced a “ games night” with our u8s, U9s, U10s. It was a night of playing 7v7 (2 games across full pitch).. kids and coaches loved it, no coaching just playing matches. Excitement, noise, Chaos and competition with enjoyment lvls top 🔝
UK football miles behind given the fact massive amounts of investments.. there is to much long ball play no flair honestly very boring robotic football ⚽️
Football Development in the UK is improving all the time (Esp in recent decades). England and the academy System are producing some world class players now (Bellingham, palmer etc ). However, i accept, esp now i am coachibg in Barcelona (15 years in England and 25 years in Spain) that UKs foundation phase and grass roots has a long way to go in terms of resources, practice methods and Coaching standards.. Esp when it comes to technical skill development…and play in young children!!!
Brilliant discussion, thank you for sharing. Great focus.. the best players LOVE the game, have passion, energy and enjoyment at the core= THEY FOCUS ON THEIR DEVELOPMENT & GROWTH. Drive; development and growth of player / Person comes from WITHIN THEMSELVES..(thanks for the word (RESPONSIBILITY). Parents and Coaches are there to guide the journey through the ups and downs. Its the downs that test the players most.. the best brush themselves off and go again…learning from failure and mistakes
What a guy!! Michael Beale inspires me in every word🙏
