My dad used to have the videotape about Waddle's time at Marseille because he was a Spurs fan and i watched it over and over, he was a phenomenal player
I'm curious, which of the two supremely gifted English footballers is the most revered in France - Hoddle or Waddle? I'm sure both made a big impression and live long in the memory of the French fans lucky enough to see them play.
I don't want to be rude but as a frenchman , hoddle was nothing compare to waddle's fame and aura , every where in france people loved him . All the kids got their mullet ^^ . Waddle was the perfect player for Marseille , extremelly competitive , amazing to watch , entertaining , also fit the OM philosofy ( straight to the goal / Droit au But ) In fact i watch this video and answer you because i just receive my collector 91 Marseille jersey , with .... of course Waddle on the back ^^ sry for my english
@@eyeswideopen5562 Thanks for the interesting reply. Waddle's dribbling was very exciting and his passing and shooting were great, too. Hoddle's passing was even better, and completely two-footed, but did not have Waddle's speed. Hoddle is probably more revered in England but it would be close as Waddle is also a big legend. Interestingly, Hoddle's had a better goals-per-game ratio in France than Waddle. My personal favourite is Hoddle but Waddle is not far behind in my affections.
@@Lee_yourboylee I’m 44 and I can hardly remember Hoddle’s spell at Monaco, although I remember Mark Hateley also played there at the time under good old Arsène 😆. I know he was huge though but somehow he’s not remembered as much as Chris Waddle who was a godlike figure at the time in Marseille while being everybody’s favourite in the rest of France. What a player !
Typical Marseille, unappreciative of Cantona and his influences on the club until he was forced out, not like their fans loved the man who grew up in Marseille anyway

Waddle was the most underrated English player ever, far a head of Gazza in my opinion!!

Merci 😊
I'm French, disabled, tired and this video made my day 👍
Thank you very much ❤
ALLEZ L'OM !
This Marseille team stills remains the best French club side ever. And I'm a PSG fan.
Waddle so far ahead of his time for the english game..

8:02 ,the one waddle leads on a dance lol
1:27!What's the name of music 1:27?
all the time ignored by Graham Taylor, who thought the French League was not up to the same standard as Englands,
who is the number 10? at 8.02
abedi pelé
Eso es futbol
Ouais tu es le FOOTIX type quoi...
Some of the rubbish Graham Taylor picked from england over Waddle during the marseille years...
jayfive276 i saw waddle playing years ago summer 90,i still don't know beetween Maradona and waddle, wich one to pick up.
Abedi Pele... Not at 8:02, at 8:11, right?
8:02 was Basile Boli (number 4) then Abedi Pelé (number 11). 8:11 was Abedi Pelé at San Siro vs. Milan.
