- Todd asks: What has been your antenna preference while POTA or camping?I am building a portable radio box for camping and your experience shows with trying out different antennas helps me with a direction to start. Been used to throwing a wire in the trees but looking at verticals to try.

G90 is a must. Love it.
That 7300 I know is in the top 3 of radios at least for POTA. Don't forget it has a 10:1 tuner at 50 watts in it. WONDERFUL setup. Robert KD4YDC
I carry a 17' whip, spory forty and faraday cloth along with a 9:1 UnUn with 29' and 57' wires. The 29' can be used as a vertical on my POTA33 mast. I also have a 4:1 with a 25' wire for a Rybakov and a 40m EFHW that I can grab if needed.
Thanks for going to more depth with my question. Saw your video with the K4QCD dually kit and the wire length you’ve used. Looks like a great easy way for portable use. I also carry a MFJ 941E I have had for years camping. Thank again.
So far what I’ve used is the G90 with the POTA-ble Reel EFHW, and the Yaesu FT-891 with the ATAS-A120. I feel like the EFHW is better in terms of signal clarity and strength reports, but I would love to set up a coil, whip, and radials or Faraday cloth just to see how that works once the weather gets better.
The G90 is highly susceptible to AM RFI, so I need to get a filter for it.
My current favorite antennas are a linked 1/2 wave end fed with links for 10m, 12m, 15m, 17m, and 20m. Uses a 49:1 balun, no tuner required. It fits as a vertical on a DX Commander Expedition mast. I also like a 25' Rybakov antenna with a 4:1 but that requires a tuner.
I really like the information you provide in your video's.
Mi antena Favorita: PAC-12
Wolf River Coil + magic carpet + G90. That's it. Fast deploy. Work the world.
I've had decent luck with rubikov antenna and pota myself. My antenna bag is 17ft chameleon, antenna wire (29ft, 53ft, and 71ft), some radial bundles, coax (30ft rg8x, 12ft rg8x, and assorted 1-12ft rg316), 1:1 choke, and switchable 4:1/9:1 unun. Usually running g90 or ic705 w/ mini zmatch (zm2 is good but mine in smaller)
I have the 25ft chameleon just haven't had great luck with it yet but it's been to cold to field work so I've just been using vehicle and drive-on 10m mast.
I don't know what it is about coax where someone always has to stand on it, so it might be worth investing in some bright colored coax or get a pedestrian cable protector.
17 foot whip pota performer
Strange to listen length in feet and every time translate to meters, usual for most of the world. :-)
Intelligent people understand both.
@@Redbelly357 Is that why America has remained exclusively with the Imperial measurement system?
Can you get 80m on a rybakov ??
You can, but the performance is greatly diminished as you get lower than 40 meters. If you want to use this antenna on 80 meters, I recommend doing something like my 53' inverted L. That really helps 80 meter performance: ua-cam.com/video/mR21EfjAjNs/v-deo.html
@KB9VBRAntennas thanks so much, inspired to try this 👍🏻👍🏻73's O.M 🏴👍🏻🇺🇸
Dear Mark and Joe, I do not have your knowledge or experience - I still like a vertical whip, sometimes with a coil, and with either “stingers” or radials. Elevate a vertical whip and it LOVES IT!. As an off-center fed dipole user, i like to bring them with me, as well. Finally, I am getting ready to get my FIRST end-fed antenna. Thinking about one that does 80-10meters. A recommendation would be appreciated. 73 KQ4IXD
The problem with 80 meter end fed antennas is that they are long: about 130 feet in length. This makes deployment challenging. (Watch last week's video on Winter Field Day and you will understand why). Although for permanent home use that wouldn't be much of a problem. Chameleon makes an 80 meter end fed antenna where you can remove the 80 meter section and turn it into a 40-10 meter antenna. Then you don't have to put out that extra antenna length if you aren't going to be on the 80 meter band.
@ thank you!
Starting Tuesday the China radios will most likely go up in price 😂😮😮
