Make sure the yarn you used for the mittens is either 100% cotton or wool if you’re going to gift them as oven mitts. Acrylic yarn will melt.
Wool also works. I have a wool hot pad that a relative made years ago but ya acrylic is bad for handling hot things

as long as that is not an acrylic, then it works! if you used acrylic it will melt when it gets hot
