I haven’t seen you remove the plastic cover from the m.2 ssd heatsink. There is an thermal pad on the bottom of the heatsink so it can transfer heat to the heatsink. The drive will work without removing the plastic bit, but it won’t be good at transferring heat away from the m.2 drive.
