  • Biographical adventure film The Aeronauts released November 2019 chronicles the life and work of Victorian meteorologist James Glaisher. While the film is inspired by Glaisher’s pioneering balloon ascents, he also made huge contributions to our understanding of meteorology and his legacy lives on today.
Met Office archivist Catherine Ross looks at the man behind the movie.

just watched it tonight. so difficult to watch as i felt like they were going to die like 5 times (even though it was obvious they weren't going to die since it was a movie).

I just watched the movie about a brave woman that could do anything, Glaisher was a weak idiot. What a great movie!

The woman is a fictional character

This movie is another way Hollywood is trying to change history and force a "strong woman" narrative to please the over reaching feminist movement, I am surprised she wasn't a lesbian. The women was entirely fictional replacing a true man that did the things portrayed in the movie. I wish I would have known this before I watched this farce of a "True Story", I would never have watched it. There are plenty of great women throughout history that are worthy of a movie and have their tales told, but to erase the man that did these things and replace his heroics with a fictional character is just wrong.
