Something that this review and many others missed is that you can adjust tension of primary pan and stiffness of tilt with a both reached by inserting the allan key into a the tripod screw hole. Seams most people never notice this and think the locking levers are only
tension adjustment.this is a great feature and something amazing for a 100 dollar product. Another common complaint is the locking levers hit eachother... the top pan lever, handle lever, and tilt lever all have built in pull out disengage
allowing effortless repositioning on the fly with O tools. Those are top 2 complaints people have. Doesn't help that smallrig own site doesn't explain either and you have to just fiddle your way to it. But they are amazing features for such a cheap, but high build quality item.

I love the compact utility of this thing. Plan to pick one up.

The only concern for me would be the 5 kg load. Would it be stable with Let's say: Nikon Z8(Smallrig L-bracket)+Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 S+ A big mic+ a neo3 Rotolight. Not sure if that exceds 5 kg...What about Z8+a 24-70 f/2.8?

Another great review as ever David. How about a short video on software you use. Overview would suffice, what you currently use, what you still have but rarely use, what you've moved on from etc etc. Keep up the great work. BobN

@david. Great detailed review. Is the head counterbalanced?

      What do you mean Brian

@@DavidOastler The counterbalancing function provides a counterforce to keep the balance between the tripod head and the camera that is mounted on it. Without locking down the tilt, if the camera/lens is tilted forwards/backwards, and your hands are off/not holding the camera/head ,does the camera remain stationary or does it continue continue to droop and tilt forward/backward? If it remains stationary when the rig's centre of gravity is not directly above the head's centre point, then this head is counterbalanced. Really interested to know what was your experience with the head in this scenario

Ok it does have that but it depends on how heavy the lens is.

Looking from 4:08 and 7:30 the damping system bounces back some but doesn’t seem to be adjustable. Adjusting the plate back and forth and then using the tension is not the same. So loosing the tension: with a weight greater than ideal it would dive, with a weight less than ideal it would need force. The best counterbalance increases evenly so you could let go in any degree.

I did not actually balance it but I think it would need to be a light lens

Reading specs off of the manufacturer’s page is not exactly an honest user’s review, matey, is it? How about getting out in the field, seeing how it works in real-world conditions, and reviewing its actual performance… or is that too much like work…?

I am wondering, when to use CH10 and when the 3457 instead?

I have seen many video reviews and most of them show the jerky footage obtained by this "fluid" head. The bubble level is only 1/3 effective because any quality prodruct would have a three-point bubble, not just one. Like most Smallrig, this product is way over-priced

Its cheap as shit, 100 for this omg how cheap is cheap for you????? Damn. Also many people dont realize the pan tilt tension is adjustable through the tripod mounting hole with the built in allan wrench...

not impressed... it sticks if you try to add resistance
