    I'm so happy to have found this video. I love how you get right to it , the information was presented so well! I have a stack of wool sitting here I bought on a whim , only 3 colors though , and I am clueless as to how to use it up! I have been hesitating because I knew nothing about wool applique .. I feel like i can totally do this now! Thank you!

    Thanks for posting this video. Basically applique is applique is what I take away from this. I've done crazy quilts and cotton fabric applique - I can't wait to start.

      +Missy Demure Yes Missy- if you've done any kind of applique before, or even if you haven't, wool applique is really simple :)

    Thank you for a great introduction to wool applique. I am trying to get some bits and pieces ready for the winter months. Could you please tell me where the pattern for the table topper came from? It is so lovely and I would love to try and make something like that. Many thanks.

    What do you do with the puckers as your sewing? I'm sure some come out with an iron but how can I minimize them as I'm sewing?? Thanks...great video! You made it look easy!

      I'm not sure what you mean by puckers? The wool applique pieces and background should lay flat. Please let me know if you have further questions :)

    I'm wondering what freezer paper is. Is it baking paper- used to line cake tins for instance?

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  Рік тому

      No that would be parchment paper. It might be what you would call butcher paper. It has plastic on one side.

    great video, nice pace and good captioning. Question: Why cant I do wool on wool? I want to make tea cozies with applique on the outside. The boiled wool is a great insulator.

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  6 років тому +1

      Hi Sarah, you absolutely can applique wool to a wool background!

    Please can you show the stitching a little closer. I had hard time seeing it. It was also a bit blurry....but you seem to explain everything quite nicely.

    I've used a lot of double sided fusible for other applique--is it usable in wool applique?

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  7 років тому +2

      Hi Kim! While I have never used fusible web with my wool applique, I have heard of other people using it. I recommend trying one which is lightweight, so it will be easy to hand-stitch through.

    what is the sense of using freezer paper if you have to pin it down.....I would think after you take the freezer paper off all you do is iron it on

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  7 років тому +5

      Hi Theresa! the freezer paper is actually your way of transferring the pattern shape to your wool. Because wool is "fuzzy" and can be difficult to draw in, you can draw your pattern onto your freezer paper and then iron it to the wool to use as your template. The pieces are reusable, you can use them several times.

    I have a lot of colored felt that was gifted to me, if the project is not being worn as in a wall hanging, would this be okay to use?

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  8 років тому +3

      Yes- you will get the same effect from felt as from wool- it's just not washable.

    • @lindacianciolo537
      @lindacianciolo537 4 роки тому

      @@JacquelynneSteves Could you also use the current felt that is typically 100% washable that comes in squares. There are some adorable patterns and some are even dimensional?

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  4 роки тому +1

      @@lindacianciolo537 You can typically use any wool/felt type material- but again, you need to check the label to see if it's washable. If it's not washable, but it's on a project which you typically wouldn't wash, like a wall hanging or pin cushion, then that would be fine. Just keep the final use in mind (and whether you would ever wash it) when choosing your materials :)

    Can you use wool felt or just wool fabric?

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  6 років тому +1

      Hi Linda! Wool felt is essentially wool fabric which has been "felted" with hot water, which makes the fibers shrink up and bind together. If your project will be washed/laundered, be sure to use wool which has already been felted, so that it doesn't shrink.

    What type needles do you recommend?

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  7 років тому +2

      Hi! It kind of depends on what kind of thread you are using, the thread needs to easily go through the eye of the needle. So, if you're using silk thread, you will need a needle with a much smaller eye than if you are using a heavier wool thread or pearl cotton. Wool is very forgiving, so it really comes down to personal preference.

    can you use wool appliques on baby knits? I saw something for my son years ago that I wondered if it was wool and would love to try it!!

    • @JacquelynneSteves
      @JacquelynneSteves  7 років тому +1

      I would make sure that the knit and wool are both pre-shrunk, so that when you launder, one won't "shrink away" from the other.
