Hi. I follow this using an old Mac SSD 500Gb (Toshiba brand) and got the wifi up but it keep saying wrong password when I try to connect.
When I change back to the WD HDD, I can connect into wifi just fine. Do you have any idea what could be the problem?

now i need a new 2TB for my Laptop ;-)

Can confirm the Crucial BX series of SSD will work with the WD Wireless Pro Upgrade. I used the 1TB model with no issues - will definitely try a 2TB MX series when it arrives.
do please let me know if the MX series works. I have a 2TB in my system that I wouldnt mind pulling out and placing inside my MPWP
I tried a 2TB Crucial MX 500 and it was a no go, unfortunately. WD Blue did the trick though

Amazing video !! Does the formated ssd need to be exFat with a partition?? or it can be in other format like NTFS or APFS if not intended to use on a windows and only in Mac?

thank you for the video converted hdd to ssd. wifi password will be last 8 digits of ssd's serial number.. and another info is some microsd with adpater wont work. you might have to use normal sd card
What is the maxim size hard drive i can replace with? I want to switch to 5tb drive.
just do not forgot, after a disk change you need to use the S/N from the new disk for the Wifi password, not the Serial number from the WD Passport.

How long does the install take? I am trying to use a 2Tb WD Blue and it just flashes for 10+ minutes

I just bought it a week later and the 4tb ssd
Its work fine with its orignal hdd but not working with ssd
And the wifi comes
But its show in the app that no drive is connectet

I did all of the steps and I cannot get the SD card update part to work. All that happens for me is the hd light goes solid, the wifi icon blinks for a minute or two and then all of the lights start flashing including the battery level lights. No clue how to fix it. The usb part of the drive works perfectly with zero issues. I cannot get firmware installed on it for some reason though.

I tried to do it with mine and I cannot get it to install the firmware from ssd at all sadly.
its basically just a plugin in usb ssd now sadly. Impossible to get the wireless functionality working at all. Sucks being stuck with it like this.

you can replace it by buying a similar battery I've tried it it works just remove the battery management module and replace it with a new battery without having to buy spare parts . I only spent 2.4 USD on a used laptop battery

I bought a new WD blue 2tb SSD. And I did everything like mentioned. But it seems impossible to get that working. I tested with 3 different SD-Cards to flash firmware.
Every time I boot with 5 seconds pressing the second button, it starts, enters recovery mode ( 3 short, 1 long blink). Then HDD Led ist blinking like it is writing, while plan Led is blinking like when it is starting. Some time later device goes off. After restart, led shows error (All LED are blinking).
Putting the old HDD back everything works fine.
Have you formatted ssd as mentioned prior to installation?

thank you for your answer. I found the problem. I downloaded the firmware "My Passport Wireless SSD" and not "My Passport Wireless Pro". Seems like it is the same file, but it doesn't do the flashing when the name is wrong.
So now it works perfect ;)

@@marno2703 I've got a similar problem. My HDD has been mechanically damaged (heads died, no reading). I have tried to change it for 500GB WD SSD Blue, but all my trials failed - all led are blinking and NAS is not working. Firmware version is correct, battery full charged, but in spite of that NAS does not create OS on the SSD drive. I have no other ideas how to fix it, could you help me?
I wonder if 1:1 copy of an operable SSD (yours) could start the other NAS.

I also got the same problem. Mine is WD Blue 1Tb SSD with DOM: Sep 2016. Not sure is this the reason or not.
