  • TAG Support CIC received the David Sparkes OBE Innovation Award at the ASA Aquatics Awards 2016.
TAG Support CIC is a project that provides swimming for the trans and gender non-conforming community.
TAGS work to make a difference to the trans community, providing body positive spaces giving trans people the opportunity to swim in a safe environment. The group now provide swimming to trans swimmers in North London, South London, Birmingham, Leicester and a new project in Stoke. TAGS are also developing the first under-16 swimming space with support from Gendered Intelligence.
TAGS project has shown the need for safe swimming for trans people supporting over 100 swimmers in the last year. Some of the attendees had not swam in over 10 years before swimming with TAGS. The positive impact having the opportunity to swim has on wellbeing is huge, supporting physical and mental health.
TAGS have set up their five spaces with a very small budget ensuring that pool providers are given training to ensure safety of the participants. They have also supported a volunteer trans swimming instructor and continue to develop their team of volunteers.
