So the blackthorn is not the indestructible stick I was led to believe.?? Brilliant channel, honest, easy to learn the techniques, and battle tested for the brilliant blackthorn.. I'm néw to the channel, buying the walking stick next week, and I hope to learn a lot more and subbed. Well done, sir 👏 👍 respect 🙏
@@snakeman9902 no stick is indestructible although I know a company that makes synthetic ones that's basically are but are horrible to hit stuff with. Blackthorn is just a good balance of strength and weight.
@ramblingkern Hi brother, I know, sorry, it was a cheeky sarcastic dig at other video posters on here.. The Blackthorn and your self-defense techniques are very realistic and awesome.. Well done on your next venture in America.(Florida) wish you the best.
Ouch! Not fun to crack a stick! Makes you wonder how often on average shillelagh fighters would need to swap out sticks, or how many "reserve" sticks they would have kept.
Where do you get your sticks from. Is blackthorn the most recomended in a realistic situation. THe one a Gentlemen should use to win ? what and what is not recomended in a bartitsu stick. personal preference to each individual as far as balance, the knob at the end , the crack in that stick, what is the width of where u broke it. would a springier stick flex and hit harder , take more and give more abuse because the flex ? or would u want more mass ? would more mass be stronger but less flexible ? Ive never seen blackthorn before I live in Canada
Blackthorn is what became the most common wood it is found easily and has ideal characteristics however oak was used commonly prior to blackthorn I have a video on why. As for more mass no, you want to hit first in a stick fight having a heavy stick reduces your chances of that. Also the springier stick will also lose force when it impacts a target which is also why we use rattan for sparring.
Video request. Could you make a video about what you look for in a fight stick. point of balance, size of knob, knob shape, length, reliable diameter, all that kind of stuff. I notice u have a strait one, do poeple also like to fight with ones that have a bit of a curve at the top ? I see lots of them for sale aswell, just a preference, or will 90 percent of people get a strait one

@@snakeman9902 appreciate it and I guessed that but always find it handy to throw that information out if someone ever scrolls through these.
@@ramblingkern Absolutely 👍👍

For sure I must have a look and see if there are any mentions of them anywhere.
Shame about the cracked stick. That's a nice test set-up and some interesting results!

what diameter is the bootom of the shank that broke. is it under 1 inch ?
@@crapsterface I would need to measure to find out
what is your preferred diameter for a stick?
It's down to the individual but you should be able to close your hand fully around the shaft.

I can definitely do that generally I look for straight as it is more useful for fighting with.
