Nice 21st century hairdo, thumbnail bro, I'm sure those cornbrows are like, 100% historically accurate.

Haha! True, true, true... But you'd have to admit, adding the main character of the Vikings series to the thumbnail sure did get the video heaps of attention, and that was the goal. Cheers.

Ah! Those were the days a young man could go seining in a pond miles from the sea and catch a couple of plump mackerel... (8:17)

    Many thanX for this uploading!
Ever thought 'bout the strong similarities b'tween Holland and Denmark? Not Germany, Belgium or England, Holland's nearest neighbours, but... Denmark? That's it! )
    Kindly regards!

Thanks for enjoying it : ) There are some 'great Danes' in this video. Any additional thoughts on the subject? Keywords to search on? Thanks!

Though funny how the conclusion was made so easily that Dorestad was right there, when there were no more remains found than a greater amount of treasure.
Just like the historians say Ezonstad never excisted cause they can't find remains.
People with papers are so easy to jump to conclusions when one or two, possible, proofs are found.

Why haven’t history books included the Netherlands in Viking history?

    • @GersonHeidinga
      @GersonHeidinga  3 роки тому +2

Hi Jesse, thanks for your question. Answer is I guess that it depends on what book you're reading. Of course there aren't many written sources available from the time. Present day Netherlands in that time wasn't heavily populated, but it was unmistakenly a part of the North sea hemisphere (first), as well as part of the Frankish hemisphere (later). Quite a few raids were held from Scandinavian side to Dorestad and down the river to Maastricht, Xanten etc. At a certain time Viking raids focused mainly on England and the Low countries were left alone a lot more. Of course not all Northmen raided other territories and peaceful exercises like trading were also a form of contact between different tribes living close to the North Sea.

@@GersonHeidinga my dad is Dutch and he had strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes and a huge beard. I have dirty blonde hair very blue eyes and a blonde beard. I was born in Australia so I’m not too sure how common those traits are in the Netherlands but it makes me think we have to have some Viking Ancestry

@@jesse8737 What Nelleke explains in the video is that the different tribes/people/cultures North Sea coast hemisphere were in contact with each other (more than scientists initially thought) and as well as mixing their cultures/habits they would have sure indeed shared the bed with people from different tribes. Especially after celebrating trade or battle successes during happy hours in the 'pubs' of those days, I would say, after consuming large amounts of ale. As far as I'm concerned we're all brothers and sisters on this planet and since we're saving it for our children we should look after it better. Have a G'Day Mate!!

Well, we shouldn't forget: in prehistoric times, proto Frisians migrated to what's their modern homeland - Dutch Fryslân! )) - from what's nowadays Denmark. (Thus, by the way, formin' an "ingvaeonic" tie between the both, Holland and Denmark! ))
What's more: later on, the Frisians, tryin' to escape forced frankish christianisation process - "Charlemagne", Frankish Empire. etc.- colonized a southern portion of the danish west coast - what's modern North Friesland! - thus makin' this tie even stronger!
Keywords? Try smthng like "De vergeten Friezen in Denemarken" by Benny Siewertsen! )) !

Whichever film it's from. There were not that many female viking raiders as suggested. Once again woke culture tries to rewrite history.

You're talking this film right, not the Vikings series? Referring to which part? BTW: Remake to be posted tonight: ua-cam.com/video/-l8Mp3ma9JE/v-deo.html. Thanks for your comment.
