I just got mine in the mail your review is spot on the cool thing about this system is that yes you can add games and you can hook it up to your Raspberry pi!
The Mortal Kombat series roms are the ultimate test for any of these machines, it is arcade hard to emulate, but if it is a good quality machine , it must emulate the Mk series at an acceptable framerate
Hey man that was a solid review. Very honest kept it real and stated solid facts. You should do more reviews. Subscribed p.s. you just started crushing some of them games. I had to laugh cuz you went into full game 🕹mode lmao good stuff
Craig Taylor most work fine! And it’s so easy to download and play roms through the USB port. I wonder if there is any actual difference with the original pandora box..
It's _not_ an actual Pandora's Box; it's made by a completely different company who have ripped off the name. China is notorious for this, which is why even genuine Pandora's Boxes are technically bootlegs, as none of the included roms are legal or licensed..
I have several of these boxes and I bought that same one just because it had component out not real pandora box but worth the $80 I paid for it worth only $120 this is the one box I play with hard or take to friends house and never had any issues my other ones never leave my house
One of the best reviews of this thing, most dont mention the wonky games names which with 1000+ games can make finding them hard as you need to look at every screenshot. I also am very unimpressed with my Joysticks, i didn't expect arcade quality, but mine are oddly bad at N-S, E-W but diagonals work fine.. I am hoping with use they will get better (and is cheap enough to replace them). But most dont mention them as an issue so it just might be mine. Lots of comments so i may have missed it but this thing is supposedly a hacked Pandora's Box 3 with some upgrades is what i have read (and seen in some comparison shots on some websites) hence its a bit slow in some games. The ability to add games, and save is worth the price in IMHO, it overrides the negatives.
Haha- you know you're old skool when you refer to KoF/MK as a 'Beat em up'..! One a side note, I wonder how the games would look if connected to a crt... 🤔
Hi Fred, I bought mine off eBay, however the seller I got mine from is no longer trading on there. If you search for "Pandoras box 1099" on eBay you'll be able to see other sellers.
but do not get the 1099 hackjob. get the "official" PB6 that has 1300 games (download). it supports standard def 15khz monitor. this is the first product since the old 16-in-1 boards I'd even consider.
Great review, interesting and informative. Please feel free to upload further content of an arcade nature! It would be interesting to see some of the emulation of this thing in detail.
I have to be concerned with the quality of this system when on the box even before you open It, it reads "Handreds of games" and this guy doesn't seem to notice at all....
Jamie Williamson there is only pandora Box 5 as orginal all the others are fakes.Search 3A company here they built the orginals ,good quality and good processor, faster and better running(MK ,ST3,Garou..) (A7 cortex quad core).Of course these cheap ones are good too.But orginal 5 is better, better titels, but will cost double, and its worth!
I get what you're saying, the point I'm making is that even the official Pandora's Box, while probably better than the PB fakes, is still not that great and is still selling unlicensed roms. The sticks and buttons on even official PBs are not great (although easily swappable) and the emulation on some games is dodgy to say the least. Just my opinion and if you're enjoying yours, that's all that counts.
"and the emulation on some games is dodgy to say the least." Can you name some titles? Because of the Quad Core cpu on the real Pandora 5 the emulation is great in nearly every game, except some tearing issues.
Most mobile phones have quad cores, but "quad" doesn't automatically equate to "fast" and even if it did, the emulation software itself is way behind the most recent Mame version. "Outrun", for example runs like jerky crap and the same will probably apply to other super sprite scalers. As things stand it would struggle to emulate MK 2 and above (should they add those games). Numerous games, while playable, have quirks in sounds etc. or graphical glitches. This isn't down to the hardware, it's down to the emulation software. I'm not saying the PB is crap, it runs a lot of games just fine, but there _are_ better alternatives.
The thing you completely miss is the game aspect ratio, if you do not play 4:3 ratio the game does not look as the original al all. Also setting up a scanline generator would make the thing really more authentic.
Thanks for this very thorough review. Trying to figure out the best emulation option / best bang for the buck. If there is a better option that you would recommend, please reply with the links. Thanks again :)
People buying this remember just for 2D arcade games. Some of them still not running smoothly but most of them are fine...if you just want 80 and 90 arcade games. This is perfect. If you want 3D and console games which N64, you should build it with using computer or pandora box 6 3D.
I have the 2100-1 jamma and while the names are correct some of the games are unplayable like outrun you can't shift gears, Imari warriors you can't rotate properly, smash tv not setup for twin sticks. Also many of the games have screen tear.
Scopie33 - I think that JAMMA board is a few years old? It's really annoying the lack of quality control with these in terms of what games they include!
I would personally go into the structure change xml which the library is configured balance it out to the way you like it and add a few more games too lol
It's a shame a lot of people buying this crappy versions of pandora's box, Nothing beats the 3A Game Pandora version 5 :D Less Games and better gameplay :)
Correct, and I think they're planning to make the official Pandora Box 6 soon, I hope we'll be able to add some games like Mortal Kombat II and Time Soldiers on it :)
Laurent L'Hoest I just bought it. You can ad games and MK1, 2, 3, and 4 is available for It plays PlayStation games too so i'm assuming MK4 is the PSX version. The only downside is you have to contact them for a link to the games to install onto the box when you receive it.
Are you really worried about the names i want to know does it work properly what versions of the emulator and does this machine over heat... you know real issues...
Why not just build a Raspberry Pi into the case of the “Pandoras Box” after gutting it for everything that makes it a Pandoras Box and connecting the Joysticks🕹to the “Raspberry Pi” instead! It will take some customization work to make all the USB ports out on the back of the “Pandoras Box” case giving you the possibility to use the original systems joysticks🕹 to play the Arcade Emulator! And connect other controllers 🎮 ore a keyboard ⌨️ to the USB ports ore BT for Other Emulators like Sega, Dream Cast, NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox360 ore just simple PC games ore checking the your mails Facebook and Streaming as examples! Plus you can download your Rom’s directly to your Raspberry Pi with the WiFi connection and “BoomBaddaBing” you can test the Game/Rom momentarily after its downloaded to see if you got the right one for the setup your running💯👌! Making this perfect 👌 “RetroArcadeGamingSYSTEM” will be, my mission for 2019!
You keep complaining that it's hard to find a certain game cause it's all scattered around. That's what a favorites list is for and also you can add different games or duplicate games if the one you mentioned washed out.. and save games. Pandora's 5 can't do that so that's a huuuuuuge plus.
Hi, thanks for your comment, while I agree that using the favourites makes it easier to find the games you want. I still feel that with the way the games are organised and some of the names used makes it a lot harder than it needs to be.
Yeah, but in this day and age, writing down numbers for mis-ordered games and not having an alphabetical order is just plain backwards. Not to mention the P2 buttons are malfunctioning lol and they can’t spell on the box or the titles lol! The product is a Beta test at best. The Box sucks big time and is just typical of shoddy knock offs from the Far East. My laptop emulates much better, the games are alphabetical and searchable and my arcade stick doesn’t make annoying clicking sounds with every press or move. Review is spot on, so for me I will stick with the much bet emulation on my laptop for now and wait for a better designed product. Thanks for the very thorough review! Final thoughts: looks good from the outside, but then again, that’s what the Christians said as they rocked up to the Colosseum! Nuff said.
Adam Howes - Thanks for your comments, I think you've raised some pretty valid points. There will always be people who want the simplest plug and play experience though which this product is trying to appeal to.
Hi Craig, Thanks for the review, I found it really useful! I only stumbled across this sort of device this weekend by chance but it’s something I’d actually like. I’m not massively into technology, grew up on Segas and then first few PlayStations but not had a console for 10 years or more. However, I’ve always had a nostalgic goal to have a proper arcade machine based on loving them as a kid - these systems make it seem affordable! Whilst the Pi you talk about may be better, I’d be way out of my depth, do you think a Pandora (or copy) would suit my needs? Also, the games I grew up on were Wrestlefest, Final Fight, Metal Slug and Street Fighter; do these games work well on the 6?
Ron Perry - Pandora 5 runs games like Outrun and NBA jam a lot better, it also seems to have picked the best rom versions and has named them correctly. On the flip side PB5 has issues with screen tearing and some sounds and is more expensive. On balance I think the PB5 is better but still not perfect.
btw many of the arcade games that are sold in this format use a raspberry Pi, the problem you were experiencing with some of the games may be a copy that just wasn't good or the emulator isn't good for that copy, etc. as far as Pandora's box, they do not make a 6 or 6s, this is a clone. Most of the clones do not have power switches, which you have found out. They are also not as well done as the real thing.
Hi Shane, thanks for your comments, by the time I realised that the 6 wasn't an official Pandora's Box it was already halfway from China! It's a bit of a minefield as the 4S, 5 (some versions) and 5S are just hacked Pandora's Box 4. Lots of dodgy versions out there unfortunately.
look on arcadepunks website on the forum. yesterday someone uploaded an image for the flashdrive with all the missing and updated roms for this box. it's 2.2 gig. works perfect.. very happy with this box now
just google for pandora 6 roms pack then there will be a link there. It also fixes the aspect ratio for the roms and also fixes for the double screen punchout etc. even the gear shift for outrun.
I am a noob. On their website, it states this box can connect to PS3. I am getting Jamma version of Pandora's Box 6 for my cabinet. But the description for Jamma version does not state it can connect to PS 3. Do you know f Jamma version can connect to PS3 as well. Thank you. Great video!
Hi Li Bo, I don't believe this Pandoras box is the same one as what you are looking at. I suspect you are looking at the 3A company's Official Pandora's Box 6. I doubt a jamma version would have capability to connect to PS3 but I can't confirm.
Hi guys! Finally I've made a little ROMs pack for "Arcade Box Super" with a selection of 382 titles tested and working by me, I've included all the classic and most played arcade games of ever, games not in the list probably are not famous enough or simply do not work (great excluded for example is "The New Zealand Story", too many lag and aggressive frameskip make the characters disappear). At the end of the next post you can find a download link but before use my ROMs pack please read it all. First of all what I could find out about this device…
THE 1099 INCLUDED GAMES With “Pandora's Box” we were already accustomed to seeing lists filled with clones and duplicates of the same games but here the situation is much worse because these are many, a lot of games have different names (ex. "Bubble Bobble" is "Magic Bobble") and most ROMs use the file name instead of the game title (ex. “Super Mario Bros.” is “suprmrio”). In addition the selection of games is less accurate and certainly not tested, for example all the vector games like "Asteroids" do not work (nothing appears on the screen) but some titles are present anyway, or in driving games there is no possibility to change gear. Fortunately, the ability to use ROMs on USB sticks allows you to create a custom game list but, unfortunately, losing the functions of preview and display of the game name instead of the file name. EMULATION (HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE) The device use an hacked version of MAME 0.139 based on Linux and installed on a board that, unlike the "Pandora's Box", has no micro-SD card, for this reason it is not possible in any way to interface with the device to fully understand the structure, modify the settings or update the internal list of games. All you can do can be done directly on the external USB stick. The hardware is not powerful enough to be able to run all the games, many of which do not start or are extremely slow to be played, many of the classics, however, run correctly at full speed. Regarding the software instead, after numerous tests and attempts I managed to understand how and what of the original emulator works on this device and this is the result… ini files They are not supported, each presetting cannot be changed. cfg files Are supported and I used them for remapping controller buttons of some games, unfortunately joystick remapping do not work. nvram files Are supported but not always the emulator can write them on the USB stick, so I left create the necessary files to MAME for Windows, where required, by starting one by one all the games in the ROMs pack, files that will be copied later on the USB stick with the ROMs. In this way, the loading of some games is faster (skipping the board control) and allowing the start of “Williams” games that would otherwise hang during loading. Samples Are fully supported and included in my ROMs pack. Artworks Are supported to overwhelming majority of games and I used them to force correct games aspect ratio but with some titles there is no way to make them work (see “Generic Artwork Beezel” section). Folder structure The emulator root is in a folder called "GAME" that will be placed on the USB stick root used for this purpose but, unlike MAME for Windows, there is no a specific folder for the ROMs, consequently the ROMs and support subfolders (like “artworks” or “samples”) will be placed all inside the folder “GAME”. Ex. GAME |- artwork |- cfg |- nvram |- samples |- 1942.zip |- atetris.zip |- gng.zip |- … Games sorting The games are sorted on the screen in the same order as they are copied to the USB stick, for example if you copy "outrun" first and then "atetris" on the screen will be displayed "outrun" before and then "atetris". GENERIC ARTWORK BEEZEL "Arcade Box Super” has the screen fill as default and uneditable setting with the result of distorted images on 16:9 wide screens. To solve the problem with horizontal screen games you can set the screen aspect ratio to 4:3 without however solving the problem with a 3:4 aspect ratio vertical screen. For this reason I have made six type of generic beezel for correct aspect ratio on 16:9 wide screens and to fill the screen black bands with MAME logo: 3-4 (1 screen) 4-3 (1 screen) 4-3 (2 screens) 4-3 (2 screens - gapless) 4-3 (2 screens - cocktail) 4-3 (3 screens - gapless) In my games collection artworks have been used in this way: 4-3 (2 screens) Lode Runner - The Dig Fight (loderndf) Punch-Out!! (punchout) Super Punch-Out!! (spnchout) 4-3 (2 screens - gapless) 4-3 (2 screens - cocktail) Tehkan World Cup (tehkanwc) 4-3 (3 screens - gapless) Buggy Boy/Speed Buggy (buggyboy) Darius (darius) Darius II (darius2) 3-4 (1 screen) 4-3 (1 screen) Any other vertical (3:4) or horizontal (4:3) games except those marked in yellow that do not support artworks (fortunately they are all horizontal and you can solve by setting the screen aspect ratio to 4:3). Cocktail Games In the games originally conceived for arcade cocktail cabinet the two players were facing each other on a screen placed on a horizontal plane, which is why on the screens placed on a vertical plane (such as the monitors or domestic televisions) the player 2 controls are inverted. In the “Arcade Box Super” you can remap only the functions of the individual buttons but not of the two joysticks, which is why I created a generic beezel for cocktail games with the game screen duplicated and rotated 180° for the player 2. CUSTOM ARTWORK I have made specific artworks to better adapt to the characteristics of some games, in particular for those who used a plastic backdrops because without it the game action would take place on a black screen: 4-3 (backdrops) Boot Hill (boothill) For this game I have made a mixed artwork with my generic beezel for 16:9 wide screen and the originals beezel/backdrop resized and clarify. I have also edited original lay file proportioning the values to the new layout. In this game only I have included the original beezel because the very old characters graphics is really scary and the beezel helps to make it smaller with a more pleasant effect. Space Invaders / Space Invaders M (invaders) For this game I have made a 16:9 artwork backdrop with the originals backdrop, resized and clarify to fit in a wide screen. I have also edited original lay file proportioning the values to the new layout. Space Invaders Part II (invadpt2) For this game I have made a 16:9 artwork backdrop with the originals backdrops from "Deluxe" clone, resized and clarify to fit in a wide screen and overlapping them in a single image. I have also edited original lay file proportioning the values to the new layout. 4-3 (cropped) Double Dragon (ddragon) Double Dragon II - The Revenge (ddragon2) These two games have a small black frame around the screen that has been cut editing the generic beezel lay file to maximize the playing area. The change will only be noted for a small cut in the titles screens that unlike the game area extend across the whole screen. CUSTOM CONTROLLER BUTTONS I remapped the buttons of some games to enable features that are indispensable for their correct execution but disabled by default, such as for example changing gears in driving games or clockwise/counterclockwise rotation of the character in games like "Forgotten Worlds". In some cases I simply remapped the buttons for a more comfortable use of the game. "Arcade Box Super" unfortunately does not support the remapping of the two joysticks for this reason in the double stick games I remapped the buttons 2 - 5 - 1 - 3 to simulate respectively the movement UP - DOWN - LEFT - RIGHT of the secondary stick. THE ROMS PACK The ROMs pack for "Arcade Box Super" includes a selection of 382 games, tested and working by me, complete with: "Artworks To fix games aspect ratio. "Samples" For hear the sounds in some old games. "nvram" To fix the loading of "Williams" games and skipping some check board in games load. "cfg" For customizing controllers buttons of some games (see "Custom Controller Buttons" section). With the exception of three titles only parent ROMs were used. The clones included in the package are: “Karate Champ (VS version)” (kchampvs) Two-player version of the original game, however included. “King of Fighters '99 - Millennium Battle, The” (kof99e) Earlier version, the parent was not working. “Rampart” (rampart2p) Jooystick version, the original was for trackball. All the romset was rebuilded in unmerged mode and verified with clrmamepro. With the main pack (romset.7z) you can also download a small archive (support_files.7z) containing an Excel sheet with the games lists, a batch file for the correct sorting of games list on the USB stick and my generic beezel to use with other games not in my ROMs pack. THE GAMES LISTS In this Excel sheet you can find three lists: Games Selection List In this list are listed the 382 games of the ROMs pack sorted by game title (and not by file name) and combining the titles belonging to the same series. For example immediately after "Pang" (the main title of the series is listed in alphabetical order with the loose titles) there will be "Super Pang" and finally "Pang! 3". Custom Controller Buttons In this list are listed the games with a customized controller buttons. Original Games List In this list are listed the 1099 games preloaded in the device. THE BATCH FILE To sort the games on screen in the same way as they are sorted on the Excel sheet list, create a folder on the PC desktop (or wherever you prefer), extract the two archives in it, edit the batch file with the text editor (right mouse button -> edit) replacing the letter X: with the letter of your USB flash drive (menu edit -> replace -> replace all). Save, close and run the batch file. GENERIC BEEZEL WITH THE NEW ADDED GAMES If you add a new games in your USB stick, simply copy the right generic beezel in “artworks” folder and rename it with the same name of new rom file. Incredible! I downloaded today and it was great! Tron worked! If only the file naming convention could be more clear and not so cryptic. Thanks for taking the time and please don't hesitate to do additional games.
I have recently bought what is called on eBay (Original Pandoras Box 6S 1388 in One)! for US$139. I have not received it yet, and I hope it's not gonna be a pirated clone or something!! :(
aren't those Usb ports meant to let you use the machine as a double arcade stick connected to an external system (eg. PC, consoles) Given that, can't you just connect it as a double joystick to a raspberry pi and use the raspberry to emulate?
Hi, can you tell me if it has an old game called Moon Patrol. All the mame disc seem to have it, but can't find it on Pandora 5 or 6. I believe 4 had it. I'm hoping they have just buggered up the name.
Nice video and thanks for ur reciew MR Criag taylor. Plz could u help me i am confused between pandora box 5 and 6.i need to know which one is the best .i want to buy but i dnt know 5 or 6 . Plz reply my comment as soon as possible thanks.
Aliraza Butt - Hi, I've actually got the Pandora's box 5 (960 game version) as well. On balance I think the 5 is superior but you can't save games or add new ones via USB. It's also more expensive. Hope this helps!
Hi Guys. I quite like my arcade station. Can yu upgrade the MAME on this machine? Otherwise, I might rip out the innerds and put a retropie in instead.
The Hamsterminator - Not as far as I know, I suspect there are too many different Pandora's Box systems knocking around for this to be popular enough to get modders working on it.
The Hamsterminator - If I was going to go down that route I'd probably keep the PB and the Pi in the same case. Here's a link to a good idea; ua-cam.com/video/oYMl-UCcibs/v-deo.html
I played this the other day and the screen aspect ratio changed to suit the game. This one seems locked to wide screen and runs very poorly - I didn't experience any lagging like this one does - or any control issues.
have you tried this on a pc or raspberrypie with the usb wire, I've heard it's supposed to work as a control panel for these systems. Would love to be able to purchase just the control panel without the pandora box
sebastien bouchard - it works as a standalone joystick for Raspberry Pi or PC. I've not seen the control panel for sale separately though. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks for making it clear to avoid this product like the plague, it's a shame, cause it looks like should be good, but everything os and game wise looks terrible.
Planet Supermorph I own this and I disagree. It's far from terrible. It plays all of my favourite 80s arcade games very well and the majority of the rest very well too. The only real negative apart from the few games that don't work like they should is the naming of some of the games. However, by setting up a favourite list that is not a problem.
If it's not a 3A or 3H Pandora's Box, you got a garbage system. Alot of clones, have inferior components and many don't have a cooling fan which will cause your board to fry over time... Remember, you get what you pay for. An official Pandora's Box exists in models 4S, 5 and 6 ONLY.
@@jabes1122For starters It'll actually say Pandora's Box on the Box it's self. AMAZON Prime sells the REAL PANDORAS BOX 6. The seller is Wisamic. If you decide to buy order Sanwa joysticks and Buttons. The stock ones are decent, but NOT up to par for the intense gaming control experience.
Damien Jeremy Weir - I won't ask how old you are ;) I miss arcade games in takeaways, at one point I could do Double Dragon on one credit at my local chip shop!
Could you give me any link where to get that one because I just bought one on amazon they told it was the 6s but they send me 5s just the logo when turn it on says six 6s but on your video I don’t see any logo 6s and I’m not able to make a list of favorites games and add games I feel very disappointed
Pandora's box 5 960 in 1 is the real one.. it will run Mortal Kombat with no slowdown.. it has a new more powerful CPU.. $100 bucks on Ebay (for the board only) $250 for the whole kit..
Hello, thank you for your review video, i have a question, i have a raspberry pi with all games in it but all Mk games play slow i have tried thousands of ways and nothing works, but i noticed yours just play perfect on raspberry pi.. please help!!
Great video. Would recommend a genuine Pandora’s box 5 for around £150, or a fully loaded raspberry pi for around £100? I have looked at a genuine Pandora’s box5 in action and semis to run a lot smoother, and mortal kombat runs perfectly on it. Subbed.
Hi Andy, out of the two options I personally would go for the fully loaded Raspberry Pi. This is for several reasons, it's considerably cheaper, you will also have access to multiple retro systems such as the SNES, Megadrive, PlayStation 1 etc. The Pi will also give you the opportunity to add more games or systems in the future if you feel brave! There are a few caveats to mention with the fully loaded Pi's you will see on eBay etc. They often cut corners on the quality of their memory cards and controller's. More often than not they come with SNES style controller's that cost about £3 and are pretty poor. Many of the adverts will also state they run systems such as N64, Dreamcast, and PSP when in reality the performance is not satisfactory for gaming. Hope this helps and thanks for watching my video!
Rutilio Namaziano - I'm assuming you are talking about the Pandora's Box 5 with 960 games? Quite surprised that it struggles with Outrun as it's supposed to use a quad core processor.
hey man I have one all listing say they can also play nes snes genesis ect but I can't work out how to load them from the usb I can only get mame games to load from usb other games do not show up
I see this device listed on a few different sites for sale and it states that its compatible with other systems roms like NES, Snes and Genesis. Any truth to that?
i guess games were built on 8bit and with 800*600 resolution in mind ur resolution was pretty high on pandora version or should we say STRETCHED roeolution in compared to raspberry pi..
I was planing on getting one of these but after this video i'am just gonna stick with 1up arcaide so thank you for this video.you really help
Thats what I have and I modded it
Thank for the fast reply, I’m kind swaying toward the fully loaded pi3 for the reasons you mentioned.
Many thanks. Good luck with the channel.
I received mine yesterday! I am very happy with the overall quality - I don't care if it's "fake".
Glad to hear it, hope your favourite games work well on it!
Craig Taylor most work fine! And it’s so easy to download and play roms through the USB port. I wonder if there is any actual difference with the original pandora box..
With the original you CAN'T add extra game roms.
nikarct how this is fake? Pls explain
It's _not_ an actual Pandora's Box; it's made by a completely different company who have ripped off the name. China is notorious for this, which is why even genuine Pandora's Boxes are technically bootlegs, as none of the included roms are legal or licensed..
Starting to consider building a cab based around this ez setup... wish the control panel was a little more customizable.
I have several of these boxes and I bought that same one just because it had component out not real pandora box but worth the $80 I paid for it worth only $120 this is the one box I play with hard or take to friends house and never had any issues my other ones never leave my house
I love the ABC and DEF labeling on the buttons.
Just waiting for yodel to pull their thumbs out ,will mine turn up by the new year?
The ability to add games, and save is worth the price in IMHO, it overrides the negatives.
my friend congratulations on your video I have two questions: 1 has led light? 2 Do you have speakers included in the box?
PETER 593 - Hi, there are no lights or internal speakers in this unit. Thanks for watching!
Haha- you know you're old skool when you refer to KoF/MK as a 'Beat em up'..!
One a side note, I wonder how the games would look if connected to a crt... 🤔
I'm British and I don't remember fighting games ever being referred to as 'beat-em-ups' in the 90s.
@@Scripture-Man they were mate.
Hi Craig, great review!!! Could you tell where you bought yours? Thanks, Fred.
Thanks Sno Oks, where did you buy yours?
official 3A store is in aliexpress. there's a 1mo old comment from them on this video. (found mine in EU to save 24% VAT though)
Great review, interesting and informative. Please feel free to upload further content of an arcade nature! It would be interesting to see some of the emulation of this thing in detail.
Hope to see more reviews of these boxes.
I have to be concerned with the quality of this system when on the box even before you open It, it reads "Handreds of games" and this guy doesn't seem to notice at all....
Thanks for the review!
Good news . I downloaded the game to usb disk and started, after playing other games in the arcade box , it was smooth, no delay, fast respond.
There is no Pandora's Box 6 That's the Fake Clone one Pandora's box 5 960 in 1 is the original one..
See below, they're ALL unlicensed knock-offs and are as legitimate (or otherwise) as each other.
Thanks the review, really informative. Strange no original Double Dragon!
Nice Video. Can I use the Pandora Box as the input controller for my steam game ? with a driver maybe ? Do you know ?
Thanks for this very thorough review. Trying to figure out the best emulation option / best bang for the buck. If there is a better option that you would recommend, please reply with the links. Thanks again :)

People buying this remember just for 2D arcade games. Some of them still not running smoothly but most of them are fine...if you just want 80 and 90 arcade games. This is perfect. If you want 3D and console games which N64, you should build it with using computer or pandora box 6 3D.
BEST REVIEW I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE
LOVE THE
'WHAT DO' FACE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video. What's the best emulator to get then
I have the 2100-1 jamma and while the names are correct some of the games are unplayable like outrun you can't shift gears, Imari warriors you can't rotate properly, smash tv not setup for twin sticks.
May I have a link to the setup your talking about or at least which seller?
Wonderful, I'll order it right away, thanks a lot !
@@laurentlhoest8324 You're welcome.

There seemed to be a significant controller delay when playing nemesis.
I still feel that with the way the games are organised and some of the names used makes it a lot harder than it needs to be.
rupman27isback not to mention the games are NUMBERED, hmm maybe writing the number down???
Have got one my self and there is a lot to criticize but when you take into account value for money it can't be beaten.
Thank you very much for your well done informative review....i must say it is one of the best
Hi Craig,
Thanks for the review, I found it really useful!
Sean Regan - Hi Sean, the games you mention all work well on this machine so it may be suitable for what you are after.
How does the Arcade Box Super 6s Compare with a true Pandora 5s? Excluding the save feature.
Do you think and HDMI coupler would work since 3 meters is not enough length for me?
Maybe just a longer HDMI?
some of those names were used on bootleg jamma versions! if my memory serves me right
look on arcadepunks website on the forum. yesterday someone uploaded an image for the flashdrive with all the missing and updated roms for this box. it's 2.2 gig. works perfect.. very happy with this box now
Roy Tönis - Sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the heads up!
just google for pandora 6 roms pack then there will be a link there. It also fixes the aspect ratio for the roms and also fixes for the double screen punchout etc. even the gear shift for outrun.
I agree Roy!
Just curious, is it possible hookup extra controllers for games that use more than 2 players?
Is it possible to capture gameplay from an Elgato HD 60 ? I have tried even with obs nothing works.
I'll keep waiting, maybe they'll work out the bugs by Box 7 :) Great review.
Great, informative video. Thanks. Will this work as a controller for a raspberry pi with emulation station etc? Cheers
carlog - yes, you can use it with a Pi, PC etc as a controller if you want.
Craig Taylor thanks for the quick response. :)
there are a lot of pandora box 6 what is the best one?
Also wondering this
I see in your video a new version of Pandora, same problem version 4... too
Is there any US games on there? I've got the Pandora 4, and there isn't a single Midway or Atari game on there.
Larry Bundy Jr - The only one that springs to mind is gauntlet 2, you make a very good point about the lack of US games.

THE 1099 INCLUDED GAMES
With “Pandora's Box” we were already accustomed to seeing lists filled with clones and duplicates of the same games but here the situation is much worse because these are many, a lot of games have different names (ex.
EMULATION (HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE)
The device use an hacked version of MAME 0.139 based on Linux and installed on a board that, unlike the "Pandora's Box", has no micro-SD card, for this reason it is not possible in any way to interface with the device to fully understand the structure, modify the settings or update the internal list of games. All you can do can be done directly on the external USB stick.
The hardware is not powerful enough to be able to run all the games, many of which do not start or are extremely slow to be played, many of the classics, however, run correctly at full speed.
Regarding the software instead, after numerous tests and attempts I managed to understand how and what of the original emulator works on this device and this is the result…
ini files
They are not supported, each presetting cannot be changed.
cfg files
Are supported and I used them for remapping controller buttons of some games, unfortunately joystick remapping do not work.
nvram files
Are supported but not always the emulator can write them on the USB stick, so I left create the necessary files to MAME for Windows, where required, by starting one by one all the games in the ROMs pack, files that will be copied later on the USB stick with the ROMs.
In this way, the loading of some games is faster (skipping the board control) and allowing the start of “Williams” games that would otherwise hang during loading.
Samples
Are fully supported and included in my ROMs pack.
Artworks
Are supported to overwhelming majority of games and I used them to force correct games aspect ratio but with some titles there is no way to make them work (see “Generic Artwork Beezel” section).
Folder structure
The emulator root is in a folder called "GAME" that will be placed on the USB stick root used for this purpose but, unlike MAME for Windows, there is no a specific folder for the ROMs, consequently the ROMs and support subfolders (like “artworks” or “samples”) will be placed all inside the folder “GAME”.
Ex.
GAME
|- artwork
|- cfg
|- nvram
|- samples
|- 1942.zip
|- atetris.zip
|- gng.zip
|- …
Games sorting
The games are sorted on the screen in the same order as they are copied to the USB stick, for example if you copy "outrun" first and then "atetris" on the screen will be displayed "outrun" before and then "atetris".
GENERIC ARTWORK BEEZEL
"Arcade Box Super” has the screen fill as default and uneditable setting with the result of distorted images on 16:9 wide screens.
To solve the problem with horizontal screen games you can set the screen aspect ratio to 4:3 without however solving the problem with a 3:4 aspect ratio vertical screen. For this reason I have made six type of generic beezel for correct aspect ratio on 16:9 wide screens and to fill the screen black bands with MAME logo:
3-4 (1 screen)
4-3 (1 screen)
4-3 (2 screens)
4-3 (2 screens - gapless)
4-3 (2 screens - cocktail)
4-3 (3 screens - gapless)
In my games collection artworks have been used in this way:
4-3 (2 screens)
Lode Runner - The Dig Fight (loderndf)
Punch-Out!! (punchout)
Super Punch-Out!! (spnchout)
4-3 (2 screens - gapless)
4-3 (2 screens - cocktail)
Tehkan World Cup (tehkanwc)
4-3 (3 screens - gapless)
Buggy Boy/Speed Buggy (buggyboy)
Darius (darius)
Darius II (darius2)
3-4 (1 screen)
4-3 (1 screen)
Any other vertical (3:4) or horizontal (4:3) games except those marked in yellow that do not support artworks (fortunately they are all horizontal and you can solve by setting the screen aspect ratio to 4:3).
Cocktail Games
In the games originally conceived for arcade cocktail cabinet the two players were facing each other on a screen placed on a horizontal plane, which is why on the screens placed on a vertical plane (such as the monitors or domestic televisions) the player 2 controls are inverted.
In the “Arcade Box Super” you can remap only the functions of the individual buttons but not of the two joysticks, which is why I created a generic beezel for cocktail games with the game screen duplicated and rotated 180° for the player 2.
CUSTOM ARTWORK
I have made specific artworks to better adapt to the characteristics of some games, in particular for those who used a plastic backdrops because without it the game action would take place on a black screen:
4-3 (backdrops)
Boot Hill (boothill)
For this game I have made a mixed artwork with my generic beezel for 16:9 wide screen and the originals beezel/backdrop resized and clarify. I have also edited original lay file proportioning the values to the new layout.
In this game only I have included the original beezel because the very old characters graphics is really scary and the beezel helps to make it smaller with a more pleasant effect.
Space Invaders / Space Invaders M (invaders)
For this game I have made a 16:9 artwork backdrop with the originals backdrop, resized and clarify to fit in a wide screen. I have also edited original lay file proportioning the values to the new layout.
Space Invaders Part II (invadpt2)
For this game I have made a 16:9 artwork backdrop with the originals backdrops from "Deluxe" clone, resized and clarify to fit in a wide screen and overlapping them in a single image. I have also edited original lay file proportioning the values to the new layout.
4-3 (cropped)
Double Dragon (ddragon)
Double Dragon II - The Revenge (ddragon2)
These two games have a small black frame around the screen that has been cut editing the generic beezel lay file to maximize the playing area. The change will only be noted for a small cut in the titles screens that unlike the game area extend across the whole screen.
CUSTOM CONTROLLER BUTTONS
I remapped the buttons of some games to enable features that are indispensable for their correct execution but disabled by default, such as for example changing gears in driving games or clockwise/counterclockwise rotation of the character in games like "Forgotten Worlds".
THE ROMS PACK
The ROMs pack for "Arcade Box Super" includes a selection of 382 games, tested and working by me, complete with:
"Artworks
To fix games aspect ratio.
"Samples"
For hear the sounds in some old games.
"nvram"
To fix the loading of "Williams" games and skipping some check board in games load.
"cfg"
For customizing controllers buttons of some games (see "Custom Controller Buttons" section).
With the exception of three titles only parent ROMs were used. The clones included in the package are:
“Karate Champ (VS version)” (kchampvs)
Two-player version of the original game, however included.
“King of Fighters '99 - Millennium Battle, The” (kof99e)
Earlier version, the parent was not working.
“Rampart” (rampart2p)
Jooystick version, the original was for trackball.
THE GAMES LISTS
In this Excel sheet you can find three lists:
Games Selection List
In this list are listed the 382 games of the ROMs pack sorted by game title (and not by file name) and combining the titles belonging to the same series.
For example immediately after "Pang" (the main title of the series is listed in alphabetical order with the loose titles) there will be "Super Pang" and finally "Pang! 3".
Custom Controller Buttons
In this list are listed the games with a customized controller buttons.
Original Games List
In this list are listed the 1099 games preloaded in the device.
THE BATCH FILE
To sort the games on screen in the same way as they are sorted on the Excel sheet list, create a folder on the PC desktop (or wherever you prefer), extract the two archives in it, edit the batch file with the text editor (right mouse button -> edit) replacing the letter X: with the letter of your USB flash drive (menu edit -> replace -> replace all).
Save, close and run the batch file.
GENERIC BEEZEL WITH THE NEW ADDED GAMES
If you add a new games in your USB stick, simply copy the right generic beezel in “artworks” folder and rename it with the same name of new rom file.

Do you think its worth ripping it out and sticking the Pi 3 in stead? sorry to bug you man.

The pandora's Arcade has handreds of games. Not hundreds, but handreds. That's a significant amount more. ( 0:22 )
You are too close to the screen!
You're probably right, the TV came from the living room when I upgraded it and it's too big for my office room 😀
It’s the same distance to the screen as playing on an arcade machine though
Shouldn't be complaining. If you can do better then do so. Otherwise be grateful there are options
He don't know a single move with kano haha
If it's not a 3A or 3H Pandora's Box, you got a garbage system. Alot of clones, have inferior components and many don't have a cooling fan which will cause your board to fry over time... Remember, you get what you pay for.

Your better off using something else for emulation the firestick actually work really well
it would be good if you could have a favourites list in the a memory so you can find the game straight away
Out run is also not perfect emulation in real pandora's box 5, but much better than this
Rutilio Namaziano - I'm assuming you are talking about the Pandora's Box 5 with 960 games? Quite surprised that it struggles with Outrun as it's supposed to use a quad core processor.
hey man I have one all listing say they can also play nes snes genesis ect but I can't work out how to load them from the usb I can only get mame games to load from usb other games do not show up
Yeah, certainly the initial adverts for this made out you could play all sorts of systems but I'm pretty sure it's only MAME.
@@craigtaylor7886 thanks
I saw this guy in a Instagram ad and everyone was sayin how the seller was scamming people. IDK if you aware Craig that youre being used in an Ad.
Could I build a arcade cabinet around this
Stone ocean006 Yes.
I see this device listed on a few different sites for sale and it states that its compatible with other systems roms like NES, Snes and Genesis. Any truth to that?
Jayson Wall - as far as I know, it doesn't run any other system, despite what the adverts say :(
i guess games were built on 8bit and with 800*600 resolution in mind ur resolution was pretty high on pandora version or should we say STRETCHED roeolution in compared to raspberry pi..
Do you know how to change the language because for some reason our pandora box is in chinese
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention; apparently there's a version of Moonwalker (different rom version) that works perfectly on this.
I think composite, not component. 480i vs 1080p respectively.
Yeah your right it's fake should come with a coloured box with fan built in not circuit board
