    The French-Canadian player chatted with us about his songwriting process, practice time, why he doesn't sing and gave us a quick lesson on how his song "These Moments" is played before finally showing us how it's done.

    It's worth remembering that underneath all the technique, image and belief lies a normal human being simply enjoying their passion.

      Amazing song, though this recording seems to include an octave pedal, the bass line is brilliant but is a little suppressed by the pedal that seems to get confused on what to apply the octave to sometimes. Love the music anyway.

      Man, your writing style is impeccable. Do you have any advice when trying to get into this style of music for writing? Been mainly a jazz/prog player and finger tapping style guy my whole life, but I really want to expand into this territory but I'm just not used to it. Any tips?

    "These Moments" is 1 of my favorite songs from Antoine. I like this video a lot because it explains so much. I tried the strings actually and they're very bright & project well; however, I don't like the squeak I get from the strings as I move my hands often.

    glad to see someone putting effort into their music..takes weeks to write sometimes?? thats a true musician

  • @JDChicago
    @JDChicago 7 років тому

    The take aways are really important. He has a clear map of the instrument, both dynamically and rhythmically. He thinks in terms of specific parts on the body of the guitar for different percussion elements. And of course that he works up the arrangements and the speed of the piece...sometimes over weeks. He's brilliant. He is basically creating guitar music that would be like a mini orchestra,
    even more adventurous than piano...because piano doesn't have the "drum" sounds available.

  • @HungarianGuitarist
    @HungarianGuitarist 5 років тому

    Well its a perfect example what fingerstyle guitar music should be. The technics helps to create creative melody. Just enough percussion stuff, and fantastic right hand strumming technics, harmonics... everything is perfectly balanced in the song, and a beautiful melody stays in your ears. What else do you want??

    • @DrBromiAndufEwd
      @DrBromiAndufEwd 9 років тому +2

      Basically the small section of string between the nut and the pegs can create overtones that bother him. He puts the bandanna in there to mute those overtones. Hope that makes sense!

    • @JoshuaConnorMusic
      @JoshuaConnorMusic 10 років тому

      It's the recording, it's not very good. As others have stated there appears to be an octave pedal being used here for the bass frequencies which at times the pedal gets confused as to what note to pitch shift. Andy Mckee's ErnieBall set me up has the same problem.

    • @Wardog11111
      @Wardog11111 8 років тому

      +Karol Kappa You can get away with 2 semitones up fairly ok. Three semitones up is pushing it a bit. If you keep switching between tunings though (such as this tuning and standard tuning) then it's pretty likely to break.

    • @MuthaFuckinGoblin
      @MuthaFuckinGoblin 8 років тому +1

      If you want to try tunings such as this one, try the ernie ball aluminum bronze. Doesnt have to be heavy gauge either, I have the regulars and tune the 5th string from G all the way up to C almost every day and they still last months. Not only that, theyre very inexpensive. I was paying 16 usd for elixers that only lasted a couple months MAX, wheras the set of aluminum bronze using now is going on 4 months and theyre about 8 bucks a set.

    It's so frustrating watching these Ernie Ball "Set Me Up" videos. They intersperse the interview with the performance. Taking away from both. Trying to listen to the guitar then you have interview, try to listen to interview, pops back to guitar, try to listen to guitar..... Ect... Ect... Ect... Thumbs down.

    • @yesfan157
      @yesfan157 10 років тому +3

      It's blended on purpose; that's the thing. You can go watch an interview or a performance somewhere else... this is both. He talks and walks.
