Yes its a wireless connection. When you connect your phone for the first time it asks if you want to connect via iDrive or apple CarPlay.

Does the car come with paddle shifters?
The 218i doesn’t have paddle shifters. The 220i, 220d and M235i do as standard. It’s also an option on the 218d.
@@LloydBMWSouthLakes thanks for the help. Even if you upgrade the 218 to the M version you still won't be able to add the paddle shifters?
