Great to see this in mainstream media. However, the baseline is not positioned correctly in this video. Flat letters will meet the baseline (as in the opening image). However, in the images explaining ascenders and descenders, the baseline is moved downward, below the curved letterforms, which is incorrect. Rounded letterforms actually cross the baseline slightly. If they were to meet the line, they would optically appear smaller than the other letters on the line. This is also true of the meanline and capline. Enjoy learning about typography!
Congratulations! CNN used your very interesting video to brighten our day. You hit the big time! Well done!!!
My father was a typesetter, so I learned many of the terms used in this video at very early age, probably as soon as I learned to read.
Summary :
00:15 🖋 Understand the basic anatomy of letterforms, including the baseline, stem, ascender, and descender strokes, and x-height to improve your typography skills.
01:26 🏛 Use uppercase letters for proper nouns and headers to create a bold impact in your designs.
02:05 🤔 Many typography terms are inspired by our bodies, like the head, counters, spines, ears, and shoulders.
02:49 🆒 Serif typefaces have extended stroke details called "feet," while sans-serif styles lack these details, which means "without feet."
03:02 📚 Continuously explore the key characteristics of different typefaces to enhance your typography skills over time.
You explained very well
