Hey great work, just wanted to add a point . Cloud option is not necessary, netdata supports parent- child (multiple) setup. So all child headless netdata agents can stream to single or multiple parents.thus Parent dashboard will show all child metrics in a centralised way.
I was getting excited until the cloud stuff came up. A standalone server cannot alert if it's down. So for monitoring you effectively need the web service, and there are lots of competitors in that space. That doesn't mean it isn't worth investigating, but it just becomes a cost/features comparison vs a lot of entrenched and featureful competition at that point. We really need a good/modern fully open source solution for this stuff. The grafana ecosystem has all the parts, but alerting is separate, and alerts aren't prebuilt, so you're never going to match what a fleshed out solution can provide.
There is a solution that does not require the cloud account. Choose one server or create only one for it and make it the parent for all the severs and ta-da!
Dude you teach me stuff all the time! I had heard about netdata but thought it was some cli/ncurses type tool. This is great for my HA-Router project, gone try it!
H❤i Jay, I love your movies, thanks a lot. After using Nagios for over 15 years, i switched to CheckMK (spin-off). Never looked back. There is also a free core version, but also a free full version (with limited checks, but fulltime functionality). Just my 2 cents. Keep Up the good work. Greets from NL.
Installing some kind of web server on each server/VM really sounds for me like overkill, especially the part where you need that cloud account to have and overview of everything monitored. What about monitoring other things in the infrastructure like switches, router, printer, firewalls etc ? What about CheckMK RAW edition ? Also based on Nagios but way more modern looking and quite hasslefree to set up.
Great video about Netdata, already installed it once on a Synology NAS. Now I want to monitor 2 NAS, 2 PVE and a PBS. So should I use Netdata Cloud and can it check the barebones as well as the VMs and (Docker) CTs seperately. That would be great. I also use Uptime Kuma, but has limited functionality. Thanks so much for your great vids 🙏
You answered a question I was going to ask bout whether it co-existed with various Proxmox products. This is definitely going on my to-do list at work and at home.
Guess you are a Dr Who fan but still odd seeing a British Police box on a t-shirt worn by an American. Not sure if you are aware but in the days before two way radio there were many of these boxes in London, they had direct phone link to local police station. The boxes were locked and police officers had a key to unlock. Every so often officers would call in to advise control room of their location. Also boxes had a flashing light if the station wanted an officer to call in for some reason. We take much for granted nowadays with modern communication.
What if I already have a Web service running on the intended server? Say I have a self-hosted GitLab Server installed, will it break anything if I install Netdata on the same machine?
I just wish there was a simple, lightweight WebUI to let me monitor my homelab NAS drives. All I want is a quick graphic glance at how full my drives are, and a simple early warning system for impending drive failure without having to read pages of cryptic SMART data. Scrutiny is EXACTLY what I'm looking for, but it seems to be broken now and the dev seems to have abandoned it in the past year. Netdata is pretty, but it's sooooo over-engineered for what I need. It's looking like Netdata is probably the solution I'll go with, but it has so much more crammed into it than I really care to have.
"Net Data says that everything you have access to today for free, will always be free" - If I had 1 penny for every time I have heard this before and was not true, I would be a millionaire.....
I've recommended your channel to so many people, genuinely think your content is great because of its educational benefits!

Good as always! Thanks, Learn Linux TV!👏👌

Good to see that you got rid of that crappy background!

Thank you for uploading this video. Perfect explication and you resolve so many doubts I had
I'm really into Zabbix and Grafana, but netdata locally on each server is quite interesting. How good is it with lxc machines?
Man, you're damn good with what you do..... Kudos

@@jeremyleik3802 I'm running it for my proxmox instances
Absolutely marvellous, and love the doctor Who T-Shirt
Greta presentation...looking at Netdata presently.

Do you have any plans to do a video or maybe series on Nagios? (Core or XI?)
Cant wait to try it.
Nagios. Oldie but a goodie. It's still great IMO.
Thank you. acabo de instalar una virtual con netdata y al momento solo visualizo monitoreo de servidor local. Seguiré probrando.

Can I check traffic and connected IPs with it ?
Does Netdata have a REST API built in?
Jay my brother, can you please make a series on Either Nagios OR Zabbix ?
It would be a big big help to IT persons like us.
Thx for the video, what about a nagios serie?
BTW, there is a plan for on-premise installation, $3 per install/mo
Netdata is great, but don't try putting it on smaller pi's/SBC's like pi zero, or radxa pi S
is it very heavy on resources?
@@octopusonfire100No
please could you tell me how to remove netdata from my system,Linux mint (Victoria)
Thanks alot ❤❤
Hmmm... we've heard the "forever free " claim a few times before, haven't we... never ended up working out that way.
I want to join your comunnity. Where I can sign?
Great content!
do you have a setup guide for nagios core?
holy hell thank you
Is netdata cloud free too?
I'm a zabbix fan I have history I control it not someone else. And I can auto alert to other systems eg even SMS alerts

Free up to 5 nodes
Hermann Branch
it consumes soooo much memory :(
5 devices using community edition is useless…
Are you kidding? "completely free" if you don't use their cloud... Useless...
Ew, cloud, no.
👨🏽💻I have an idea that I would like to discuss briefly with you, what is the best way to contact you? 💗🙏🏽
