- Learn how to win the Carlist civil war the fastest way! And pick up the one king two crowns achievement by 1937!
The skills in this will transfer over for other types of the spanish civil war, so it can be useful for that too.
If you're wanting to get the paradox achievement, but also get the hatlessspider achievement (1 king 4 crowns) as well with the same run, make sure you load up this file into your system located at Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV

My eyes! My eyes! The battleplan spagetti hurts my eyes! But I can't deny the result, awesome work! Using the unplanned offensive as a buff is a completely out of the box way of thinking.
Well you don't really use the battleplan anyways, it just gives you those sweet buffs...although after unplanned offensive is applies it probably gives you an extra .5 soft attack 😁
Insane strategy! Using the "civil war troops" and terrain modifiers to defeat France while the civil war is effectively paused, that's some big brain stuff

I used your guide along with Bitt3rsteel's guide and, after a few failures, managed to get the achievement in January 1940. Thanks for the effort you put in on this.
i am so glad bitt3rSteel recommended this channel to me. i managed to finish the civil war and defeat France by July 5th 1937. i wasn't going to do your strategy with France so i just puppet them and used their extra troops to help with the final civil war. hopefully i can annex then before Germany comes knocking.

There's other ways to get it without cheesing civil war mechanics to keep the extra divisions and bumrushing with a WG in 36. It's really not that hard, you can usually defeat the Republicans fast enough to get a several month break before the nationalist crackdown, and build up a couple of tank/mot divisions to break through the French lines and get Paris + have them surrender, before they join the Allies.
Worst case scenario you simply fight them if they join the Allies, but you have to be faster than the Germans, which is also not that hard (makes it even easier, since you'll have a lot less troops to deal with once Danzig or War has fired)... just guard your ports and destroy the Brits, if they land.

Yep, to do the special carlist strat for 1 king 4 crowns I went non historical so definitely some strange things happened
I love the micro management in HoI4. I pretty much only use battleplans when I have lots of fronts to cover and if many of those fronts are easy to just plow through. Other than that, I like to be in control so I'll just draw the frontline with a plan so I can get the bonus and then just micro everything.
As for this video, definitely a strategy I'm going to try out. I have the achievement but I did it totally differently. This was way more efficient :D
Damn, excited for part two, I think I know the process to do it but I'm not certain, and it definitely does not seem easy.
It's definitely not easy, but at least if you use my game save it gets rid of the rng.
Sounds like unfortunately the achievement compatibility is lost when using my game save though
@@hatless_spider Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't I just be able to set Portugal to go down royal wedding and france to restore franco spanish kingdom since the save file can't be used for achievements anyway?
@@gerbil6416 yep, you absolutely can! I'm so miffed that it can't be used because I spent a lot of time getting that save, but it is what it is

Just out of curiosity did you put your navy on convoy raiding and use your Air Force in civil war? I didn't notice you mention it in first half of video.
Well I beat that time -somehow. It took me until 30th June 1937 to defeat France and win the Civil War as Carlist. BUT before I could take Paris the Communist started as CW in France and own 4 Provinces. Now I need to defeat them too
The Spanish Civil War is genuinely so fun. It’s so fun to just roll over the other side then go on to actually still be rather powerful.

The ironman file in the description is obsolete and can not be used with the last version of the game. Any1 knows what conditions are needed to get the archivements and how you can check them asap? I want to create an updated "Perfect Mega Spain Start" ironman file.
Did you ever figure out the most efficient way to check if Fance and Portugal are following the correct path?
I'm realy curious, what is the explanation for this choice at 3:00 ? Because it doesnt seem like you need to save the 10pp, why do you start contesting the garrisons 30days later ? Even tough there is so no real civil war "AI", do you change its plan with this course of action?
We were saving pp, plus when you start contesting, enemy spain will counter with their own contest. So it will eat up pp without gaining much, if anything
First time playing Spain. So great introduction, Mr. Spider. I've never run into this "unplanned offensive" and i guess I still don't know what it is, does, or how you are taking advantage of it. Please elaborate. Thanks.
Unplanned offensive is a massive nerf to offensive capabilities, essentially making any attacks against the enemy in a region with unplanned offensive very difficult.
You can use it to your advantage as I showcase in the video though

Does this still work? Maybe i am doing something wrong but France is getting guaranteed by UK each time now and civil war doesn't start until like november because i simply just can't get atleast two states under full control.
I believe it still works, yes.
I'm guessing the issue is that you are justifying later and there is more world tension at that point from Germany.
Getting 2 states under full control isn't a necessity though
With AAT, would you recommend using civs to buy guns instead of having them building stuff?

i just won as carlist spain( it took me 4 restarts) after that its like a walk in the desert, massive revolts lack of equipment and a drain of manpower to constantly fullfill garrisons. with franco is 10 times easier.
I was just thinking about 1 king 4 crowns. I tried it but Portugal never did anything and rejected spain. Tried finding a video on it but none exist (that i could find)
It took me many tries to get the correct events to happen portugal must do estado novo and royal wedding, and france has to do revive the national bloc
Unfortunately Uk gurantees France in December while I'm waiting for the dow to be ready. (no i didnt accept volunteers or anything, world tension was only 23%!) Perhaps something changed between this recording and the current patch?

You could try justifying on one of the nations France guarantees instead.
Only problem here is you won't be able to be at peace with Yugoslavia or romania after you knock France out

Would have been better if you mentioned when to start using the pp on gaining full control of guadalajara and murcia for people playing along

civil war keeps firing super early for me, like before secure the northern garrisons finishes. also how did you have enough pp to fully secure those 2 states? after the referendum and justification i had basically none left
I got lucky with that particular run. It is random when and where the Republicans will contest, so RNG willed it.
When the civil war fires has to do with what decisions you are taking.
Make sure to read the tool tip when you press them to make sure you understand what it is doing to lessen the time between
@@hatless_spider I tried again and saw what happened, the second suppress the strikes decision removed days from the plot instead of adding them
@@YungPalmtree15 It never adds days... the point as the nationalists is to make the civil war fire as early as possible so the republicans have no time to prepare.

Unfortunately the ironman save doesn't properly transfer for achievement purposes.
Your best bet is simply to set portugal and france to monarchist for a non ironman game, or to try to replicate the same thing in an ironman game by sheer luck and number of tries
If you can get cores on portugal - Brazil as carlist spain, can you do that as commie spain as well?
No, commie spain can only get iberia done.
I believe it is coded so that you specifically core portugal itself, not any of the cores it may have picked up
Still doable! It's just completely impossible to get the AI to give up Guadalajara and Murcia though. I managed Guadalajara and Valencia after about 30 attempts, then won the civil war in time after about 5 attempts. France and CW 2.0 were a breeze after that.
I figured I'd try to grab the coup achievement in the same run but HOLY CRAP is the game ever unplayable after you cap France. 150k rifle deficit and uncontrollable resistance everywhere. What a mess!
I cannot beat a single division with unplanned attack active. With all my best troops circled around it. They fall back on one city and my run is done unless i picked the right planned offensive area. Or else Im always in 1937 with france about to get guaranteed.
Why flip Fascist before the civil war? Was it solely so you could justify on France?

The basic tenets should still work, but more than likely it would need to be done with some different ideas
how did you know france and portugal would go monarchist?
When portugal goes estado novo and they get the event for the royal wedding you know they will take that path.
France was a little easier, because we only needed them to take the first focus leading to the monarchist paths

@@quichrlyn yes, but the bigger problem is that you also need france to go down the focus that will lead to the monarchist paths. Getting those combined is trouble

@@stacksofbacon3261 noooooooooo!!! Well maybe it was ok for me since the game recognized it as mine system specifically. Maybe there is a way that I can fix the file to allow it ironman for everyone. I'll look into that

Like yeah, this isn't bad for the more casual players trying to get achievements. But I can tell you don't play a lot of MP or a lot of hoi4 in general, if you need to micro at speed 2 rather than 3 at minimum.
True, I don't typically have time for big mp games.
I would really like to get more into it though.

@@hatless_spider Yeah, no worries, I wasn't knocking you. I just thought it was a bit funny, that's all. It's not just for MP either, I'd probably not play longer campaigns if I had to go to 2 speed once I go to war.
I think playing Spain helps a lot (initially) with learning to micro, because you have so many units from the get go and don't need to wait to 39 for the wars with several armies to kick off. But on the other hand not much can go wrong with the unorganized offensives initially, so long as you semi pay attention.
I was gonna ask, since that's what I did to get this achievement, if it still works to draw fallback lines on states you don't control at the outbreak or where you only have 1-2 garrisons? Like even then you obviously lost some of the starting divisions, but it was usually enough to keep what you were trying to hold/grab when the war started.
Basically I'd do the focus to the get the northern garrisons and then invest only minimally in cordoba, sevilla and stack divisions on the victory points (this was b4 the new supply system though, so would need tweaking now, if the units stay there at the outbreak of war) and have at least 2 of 3 in Barca, to grab that quickly as well (reinforce from Africa).
I did it a few times to optimize the finishing time for the initial CW (against "Republicans" and Anarchos), where I'd have a LARGE time gap before having to fight the Nationalists/Fascists.
So do you know if this still works?
It also seems they changed the mechanics of the Requete uprisings focus/decision. If you DIDN'T do it back then, if I remember correctly, you wouldn't just get the territory but also you got less units (I seem to remember and I still probably have an old save game somewhere, that the decision not only gave you the state but you also 2-3 requetes per state which you needed since the nationalists got more units). So essentially you had to save up PP and pay attention to not lose too many days between decisions, so you could get the maximum amount of extra states (I think it was 3, MAYBE 4). And the contact the UME focus was also different, because even if the civil war was already over it was usually a state bordering the initial states you got from the focus that secured Navarra and Burgos.
Only just started playing again with Blood Alone, and the game has changed quite a lot. I do like the new supply system though.

Part of why I did things slow for the video, too, was the fact that people really struggle majorly with the spanish civil war. Like they take a long time to understand that their 0 soft attack requetes will not be able to destroy a pocket until unplanned offensive is gone.
I get it though, the spanish Civil War is completely different from any other battle in the game
@@hatless_spider I just tested it, it no longer works to draw fallback lines on territory that will be Republican. It just bounces your units all over your own territory at the start of the war.
