Great comparison video. As a kid I always thought of Chevy as the rough and tough side of the family and the GMC as the prim proper side. These two trucks definitely are very similar in almost all ways. Blurs the lines a little bit as I have always been a fan of the ‘Chevrolet’ brand and badging.
Same I looked at gmc as the classy company owner truck (probably why I’m trading my 2022 1500 in for a 2023 gmc of a higher trim. And I now own a construction company lol)
Here’s my take. A couple of weeks ago I went to my local GM dealer to buy a refreshed GMC Sierra. Didn’t even consider the Chevy as I was previously not a fan of the front styling(weird angles and design). Unfortunately they had nothing in stock(go figure). Before I left, the salesman asked if I’d like to see a Chevy High Country that they had in stock. I had no idea it got the refresh too. I was actually pleasantly surprised as how good it looked from the front. They fixed the front and the interior. I did a quick check of an exact spec Denali build online vs this particular trucks window sticker and nothing stood out on the GMC over the Chevy.Long story short, I took the Chevy home! I agree with you Ben. I still think the GMC front end is the better looking one, but from the side the Chevy takes it due to the rounded wheel arches and no chintzy black plastic along the fender. Two things two point out - I prefer the center screen orientation on the Chevy over the GMC as the screen sits more at eye level and doesn’t force you to look down(trims below the Denali have it like this too). Secondly, the sticker isn’t identical. That GMC you were looking at must have had something missing in its specs. When I spec out the Denali exactly like my truck, the price difference is $2k for the GMC.
Weird our Denali was actually 2k cheaper than a Silverado LTZ not even a High Country and not even with the 6.2L, but I have to disagree the Denali just feels more premium. In general the Sierras felt more luxurious than the silverados. Even their SLT trims felt nicer than and had more standard features than a comparable Silverado LT, I would probably even choose a SLT over the High Country
@@EpticityOG how can you disagree if you didn’t sit inside a High Country? I sat in both back to back. There’s nothing special about the Denali vs the HC when it comes to the interior. They’re practically identical except for the arrangement of a few buttons and infotainment screen. The leather? Nope. The Denali I sat with black leather looked like it had a more generic looking grain to it. Only one that’s actually special is the Denali Ultimate which is $10k more. Believe me, I would have taken the Denali if they had one on the lot that day(cause I like the front of it better vs the Chevy). But the Silverado is every bit as good.
@@EpticityOGwrong you can get a refreshed LTZ fully loaded and get the same fully loaded Denali and come out 5k cheaper with the LTZ. The High country is 2k cheaper
@@AnontheGOATI thought the Denali jet black interior was underwhelming, no depth to it just a sea of black and terrible wood accents. Should have used the Yukon’s stain colors. I wanted to love the atmosphere theme but something didn’t flow right about it. Did you think the HC seats felt firmer than the Denali or about equal. I’ve driven them both but not back to back. Both feel like a park bench compared to the 2023 f150 lariat. I traded my 2019 Silverado rst due to seat comfort.
The one other difference is how vent set up. You have the ac vents above the screen display in the Denali and ac vents on the side of the display. I prefer it being above then on the side.
Thanks Ben for all your great truck videos. In the future can you show a picture of the payload sticker of each truck, the payload can be a deal-breaker for a lot of truck buyers.
Just bought 2 used GMCs (2016 and 2020). After driving no less than 15 trucks, the GMC was the ones we kept coming back to. Even the exact same CHevy versions just did not fell as comfortable, and the sight lines (for us at least) were not as good. Also the GMC came standard with a lot more little things (fender liners, tow hooks, trailer brake contollers, remote start, larger tires) Now I realized they are used, but dollar for dollar the GMC edged out the CHevy
@@markman7 So to tow 13k I don't have to get the Silverado OR Sierra HD to pull that much then correct? I would love to NOT buy a HD but still.be able to tow comfortably
@@MrAndreaSimms Depends on the type of trailer. While my Silverado with the max tow package is rated at 13k, a trailer that heavy needs a weight distributing receiver hitch. I think the 5th wheel rating is a little under 10k as 5th wheel trailers have a lot more pin weight.
When we went to the dealerships for both we saw a Chevy LTZ priced at $69k and a Denali priced at 67k with slightly more features and luxurious feel, obviously you know which one we went for that pacific blue is a beauty, take it it didn’t come with the Denali reserve package but even still that one was priced at 70k. The Silverado was ridiculously overpriced
So odd, I was looking for the gmc here in Houston and it was the opposite. The High Country was marked down more than the Denali. 63 on the HC and 67 on the Denali. Both had 22s,4x4, 5.3 and power running boards. I was considering the slt as my budget was 60k, but for 3 grand more I got got the HC. I love the gmc front end, but for the price, the HC was no brainer for me. Had Chevy not updated the front end, I definitely would’ve bought the gmc. They did a great job redesigning both front ends.
2 facts according to gm authority ive read over the past few months the gmc has squared fenders but the silverado got curved fenders for the first time in 4 generations back in the 2019 redesign and the silverado was refreshed for 2022 they changed from vertical headlights to horizontal, the first time they've done this in 30 years
The Silverado fenders are still square they are rounded at the top but still come down squared at the bottom the fender itself is taller and wider giving you that extra clearance to fit bigger tires but at the end of the day they are still both squared fenders.
Ben, I think you missed the mark when comparing the interiors of the two trucks. The GMC center dash, screen display, and console arrangement are actually completely different than the Chevy. The differences appear to be subtle at first glance, but when you study the layout of each, you notice the differences, and there are many. The GMC has a more luxurious appearance and is more symmetrical, whereas the Chevy is more of a stacked appearance, functional, but less aesthetically pleasing. On the GMC the center air vents are above the center screen, whereas the Chevy vents are placed on each side of the screen (similar to older interior version). The center control buttons on the GMC are placed below the climate controls whereas the Chevy buttons are placed directly below the center screen but above the climate controls. The transition from the climate controls to the center console where the shifter is located of the GMC is accented with once continuous console piece that flows better with the interior. The Chevy has a stacked appearance, with screen on top, control buttons in middle, and climate control below, then the center console shifter area just butts up to the dash with no aesthetic transitions, which makes it look less luxurious (still nice tho). To me this is a huge difference that I feel many people overlook.
Personally the Denali has a better front end I don’t like the refreshed high country front end but I hate how GMC is lazy and doesn’t have a badge how it just says GMC upfront is ugly the high country interior is better than the Denali. If I had to pick one I would probably go with a 2021 high country with the older interior I loved how they did the brown and black 2 tone seats I don’t mind the outdated interior it’s a truck not a Mercedes.
To be fair, the Silverado HC was designed to compete against the King Ranch F150 while the Denali was designed to compete with the Platinum F150,and the Denali Ultimate was designed to go toe to toe against the F150 Limited
is it just me, or did you miss the biggest difference??? The Denali and AT4X have a different center dash all together. AC vents are above the screen and the controls are angled. The High country has vents to each side of the infotainment. The angled center stack is not an option on the Chevy.
Denali comes standard with the adaptive ride control, so it doesn’t offer the tow package. That’s optional on the High Country and if you select it then you lose the max tow option. Either way, it’s not needed because of the payload restriction on the two trims. With less than 1500 lbs of payload, you don’t need max tow. 1500 minus 300 lbs - 500 lbs for passengers and stuff, you’re already down to 12,000-10,000 pounds of trailering capacity due to the payload restriction.
Soooooo nice vid but I was looking up 2022 Denali’s and none of them have the interiors( tough screen) like in your videos. Should your video say 2023?? Or early edition or something?
Hey Ben! Does the 22 GMC Denali 1500with the 3L turbo diesel have any issues? My 2021 GMC DENALI with turbo diesel has what’s called a long crank and no start. I also just had to have the nox sensor replaced because my engine light came on stating emissions issues. Do you know of any issues with the 2022 GMC? Denali has the tuck away running boards and the multi flex tailgate which I prefer over the High Country. One more thing, the High Country badging on the truck is overkill. Unless they are paying me to advertise their truck I would remove all of it the first day I bought the truck.
Denali has the same number of badges…… kinda confused if you’re comparing the two or just saying you don’t like badges in general.. Both have badges on either side and both have a badge on the back

Also there is a special Adaptive ride control on the Denali. I'm sure prices will vary based on different areas of the country. This is AZ. pricing as of 3/9/2023. Chevrolet is giving huge Dealer discounts and Buyer/Customer cash totaling $7090. GMC is giving $2000 off MSRP (varies by Dealership). For almost a $10,000 difference, guess which one I purchased!
