When one stands, as I have in some of the great cathedrals and castles in Europe, one appreciates that someone kept at the task of keeping those great buildings alive over all those years. Sometimes, it was only a bit of maintenance, every so often a major refit, but, there they stand. To know the Parliament Buildings will be here many generations from now to teach where we practiced democratic government to more Canadians, is comforting. It is also fitting that there were uncarved stones in the decorations around the building deliberately left for the future masons to leave more of the story of Canada as time passes. We should honour that.

It is certainly a lot of money, but definitely worth it. It's so important to maintain such beautiful buildings and architecture that belong to the nation. That and the visitor underground visitor centre under construction will be wonderful.

I hope you had the archaeologists in first. Lots of history here.
I was involved in the restoration of a historic building from the Thirties. We found some amazing stuff between the walls. The workers left tokens, including written notes on cigarette packaging.

That could be very expensive. :)

It’d be more expensive not to do it.

@@waynesworldofsci-tech My point, and with millions of dollars at stake it makes it very costly if things are found. The historical record of an area is important part of an area.

What a sad statement about the Capital Commission and our governments that this treasure abd 24 Sussex were allowed to degrade to the point a restoration of this magnitude was required.
