@kashtides I think he is niche in his style, but that particular niche does not mix well with commercial rap and it's hard for him to grab the attention of new fans.
Its not boring because its not trendy, its just boring because its boring. Just because you resonate with it doesnt mean everyone else has to just because they have skill. You can be skilled and still but people to sleep. Im saying this as a fan of both of them.
@@user-nn7ct3hk7c which albums from them are boring? If you go to Joey's discography starting in 1999 until 2000 there's no boring album or project that is a step back on his career. @JDeanBeats-nr3bs Honestly I just like a few songs, like 3-4 max off all their albums. 1999 I probably like the most .They definetely have talent and skill, and the praise is deserved, but theres just something about the music that just doesnt hit all the time. Im not here to compare discographies, Im just saying I get why people dont put them in the same convo as people like Kendrick and Cole.

I hope this is just a transition into an album drop. This could be Joey's chance to put himself in the conversation, he just has to come with some real heat.
Sadly no west coast artist is gonna challenge Joey on this bc rappers nowadays only beef it it’s profitable and beneficial. They are gonna treat this like they did with Lupe.
I’m a west coast chick. We didn’t hate when the East and South was up . We embraced them. I still think he is super talented and this is a great freestyle, but this is giving Ross jumping in on the drake shit (white boy😂) or Game having issues with the Em. It’s random af.
i love joey but it is a weird move for someone who has so little hype and movement at the present moment to immediately go at the biggest thing happening in hiphop. maybe this is his way of jumpstarting his return but if joey doesn't follow this up with an amazing body of work, it's gonna be doubly disappointing.
I love Joey. B4Da$$ was a super underrated album that I still go back to. But, when Kendrick drops, the entire industry goes "everyone STOP! KENDRICK DROPPED!" When Joey drops, I go "oh... Joey dropped. Cool." If they actually beefed, it would be a straight replay of Eminem vs MGK.
In a way its like childish gambino dissing drake, like yeah its cool for what it is but you not really finna move the wave and it came off as wanting attention from the beef. The timeline not really matching up
Man I need me a Kendrick vs Lupe beef. Tho given Lupe's innate inability to generate heat without back-tracking or embarrassing himself, I guess I can do with Joey for the time being
Kendrick has no reason to respond to Lupe, he’s been so blatantly jealous for years now. Cole and Drake had it coming because there was actual history of love and hate there, he said it on euphoria. I doubt Kendrick cares all that much about Lupe.
@@Ismael-kc3ry that's what makes this whole situation low-key sad.....Lupe has been too much of a try-hard in trying to get Kendricks attention. He should have kept to the bars instead of going online to explain himself - bro you don't need to explain shit to Twitter or the interviewer. Tho I guess another thing is that Lupe just doesn't even come close to the level of engagement that Kendrick gets from both critics and listeners - he could drop SLR 4 and broil and flambe and grill Kendricks entire career like Bubba Gump shrimp....but people will still deem Kendrick the winner just because. Especially post-beef, Kendrick stans have become unbearable, and I love Kendrick. My opinion, but I think Lupe is one of the greatest lyricists to have ever touched a mic and I do think he's better than Kendrick in constructing verses and the like, whereas Kendrick is a superior songwriter and artist. And I genuinely do believe that Lupe could put out a diss track that could crush Kendrick if he really wanted to - remember what he did to Royce Da 5'9? definitely some direct allusions to the beef and indirect allusions to Kendrick, but nothing here really sounds like an actual diss. a challenge, maybe, but if it is one, it’s directed at the East Coast more than anything else. like “the West is having its moment, we need to step up and i’m gonna lead the charge.” this is not the direct, opening salvo that Like That was. it sounds more like someone who’s out for the respect that he deserves (and i can’t say he doesn’t, he’s incredibly talented). i know a lot of people want to see great MCs going at it, but this isn’t gonna be the track to start it. that said, if for any reason this thing escalates, Kendrick vs Joey would be a hell of a lot closer than the Drake beef was. Joey is respected by hip hop heads and doesn’t have the obvious character issues that Drake has. to be clear, he does NOT have the capacity to destroy Kendrick, but Joey would have a much better chance of surviving it with his respect intact.
This what keeping Hip Hop competitive looks like. He’s not clout chasing, he’s addressing everyone broadly and trying to bring some energy to the East Coast after the West just had a crazy year. No shots just throwing his glove in the ring and seeing who wants to compete 🤷🏿♂️

Joey failed to capitalize on his momentum back in 2015. now it's too little too late. using classic boom-bap sounds, no matter how amazing it is used by him, is not enough to reach the heights he aspires to. classic case of failing to evolve.

Joey needs to be consistent that's all, whether it's about west coast, east coast, he needs to represent himself better Discography wise.
This the thing I don't think kendrick will respond right now because he has so much shit to do from the tour with sza to the super bowl and I think he's working on his deluxe album

Rap battles exist. Sports teams can have rivalries and produce great matches, while the individual players don't have beef with the opposition. I don't get the narrative of, 'this man has to be Hitler in your eyes' in order for an entertaining competitive lyrical back and forth to exist. You can't claim this without simultaneously calling URL Rap Battle's redundant.

At least he’s not polarizing in a negative way, look how’s it’s ruined the rep (not pockets) of Drake, Gunna, 6ix9ine, Diddy. Even indirectly Cole, Big Sean, etc
I feel both Joey Badass and Mick Jenkins are not aknowledge enough in the rap community. They are both top lyrical masters, they have solid albums, they care about the culture, etc. but people still sleep on them. The average hip hop fan in 2024 will find projects like B4.Da.$$ and The Patience "boring" because their style is not based on trends, viral moments or social media reach.
Shit doesn't need to be a 'trend' to draw attention though. Joey is talented but his style doesn't stand out
@kashtides I think he is niche in his style, but that particular niche does not mix well with commercial rap and it's hard for him to grab the attention of new fans.
Some of his projects are even praised by music critics and magazines (see Fantano or Pitchfork). Does J Cole for instance have a better discography than Joey Badass?
@JDeanBeats-nr3bs Honestly I just like a few songs, like 3-4 max off all their albums. 1999 I probably like the most .They definetely have talent and skill, and the praise is deserved, but theres just something about the music that just doesnt hit all the time. Im not here to compare discographies, Im just saying I get why people dont put them in the same convo as people like Kendrick and Cole.

I love Joey. B4Da$$ was a super underrated album that I still go back to. But, when Kendrick drops, the entire industry goes "everyone STOP! KENDRICK DROPPED!" When Joey drops, I go "oh... Joey dropped. Cool."

Man I need me a Kendrick vs Lupe beef.
Tho given Lupe's innate inability to generate heat without back-tracking or embarrassing himself, I guess I can do with Joey for the time being
Lupe would have bars that would go over Kendricks head. Lupe will be doing laps around kendrick
Kendrick has no reason to respond to Lupe, he’s been so blatantly jealous for years now. Cole and Drake had it coming because there was actual history of love and hate there, he said it on euphoria. I doubt Kendrick cares all that much about Lupe.
@@ahmadlansari5224 if lupe has bars that goes over everyone's head, what's the point of them?
Naw I don’t need it tbh by default dot wins regardless bc of public opinion.
Unlike the Drake vs Kendrick beef, it wouldn't be one-sided.
But yeah, rn this is just a sad state of affairs....
He’s a great MC, but I don’t think he’s changed the game in a significant way to be in that conversation. I also think he cares too much, like just do you and let the chips fall, stop trying to force yourself into the conversation.

1) Joey puts out an album this year that really hits
2) Other NY rappers actually step up and answer to this and start doing shit
Justin Hunt said that the NY isn’t back with this, but they have a champion now, and that’s where I’m at. I think there’s a chance that some shit really pops up because of this, but it’s not guaranteed and at most this is just a start to something that could be bigger

We can get back to regional beef if it’s between lyricists. Unfortunately to many nobodies wanna crash out.
Well plus the lyricists have better things to do, they’ve got worthwhile passion projects they’re working on, collabs they’re trying to make happen, they’re not trying to become representatives of a region on top of all the work of being indie rappers and whatnot since so much of the lyrical stuff is in the indie scenes.

this is clearly bait, i said this on twitter, but if you want to get a response from another rapper SAY THEIR NAME. stop subbing, take the gloves off. the reason kendrick is called the boogeyman is when someone says his name directly he responds back. none of the control responses stuck because as kendrick said "yall gotta try a little harder". if you really want to go this route then go all the way give him a reason to respond.

"Too much West Coast lickin'"
"This that black Airforce energy comin' out your speaker."

Why people overthinking this? 2024 went from Kendrick won the beef, to Tyler has the best album, to actually Doechii has the best album, to Kendrick has the best album (and they did all put out good projects). Not to mention Blue Lips also went crazy before all this and before all that most people were hoping for a Kendrick/Baby Keem album. You see polls for best rap song, where Kendrick wins with a song that's not even real. Plus I've seen talks of the West is leading Hip Hop, surpassing the South, when its mainly 4 artist or so that are going crazy and they really only been snapping for maybe the last half of the year. All that to say, the West is getting rode a bit, but Joey definitely hating a bit too. lol
Yea you right the attention has been on the west coast, for good reason too. I think Joey is just trying to bring back the attention to East coast for 2025, hopefully the others(NYC rappers) get with the plan too.
We haven't had a good regional show in a minute.
Delusional. The south been running Hip Hop for more than a decade and change.. You could argue 1/3rd or more of the current Hip Hop Industry are from Atlanta alone. Kendrick is one artist he can't account for an entire region lmao

joey would have to put out an album for east coast the same way gnx is an album for west coast, his sound is very clearly new york but he needs songs to hit in public like at a club or on tiktok, thats how youre attracting new fans
definitely some direct allusions to the beef and indirect allusions to Kendrick, but nothing here really sounds like an actual diss. a challenge, maybe, but if it is one, it’s directed at the East Coast more than anything else. like “the West is having its moment, we need to step up and i’m gonna lead the charge.” this is not the direct, opening salvo that Like That was. it sounds more like someone who’s out for the respect that he deserves (and i can’t say he doesn’t, he’s incredibly talented). i know a lot of people want to see great MCs going at it, but this isn’t gonna be the track to start it.
that said, if for any reason this thing escalates, Kendrick vs Joey would be a hell of a lot closer than the Drake beef was.
No shots just throwing his glove in the ring and seeing who wants to compete 🤷🏿♂️
i can see that, he did the same thing with Control.
