- A lot of work seemed to be going on in Yeovil, but a lot needs to be done to bring back businesses to the town centre.
According to Somerset Live

The massive number of empty shops in Yeovil town centre
A walk through Yeovil town centre reveals a huge number of empty shops. A combination of growing online shopping trends, government-enforced coronavirus restrictions and lockdowns, and high business rates has led to the demise of many once-popular stores.
Prominent retail sites where the likes of GAME, Peacocks, Poundland, British Heart Foundation, Argos and Animal once traded are all now empty. And that's not to mention the two gaping high street holes where the well-loved Beales department stores once served loyal customers.
The Glovers Walk shopping precinct, in particular, currently hosts just one store, with ten empty retail spaces. But how many empty shops are there in total across the town centre?
Thanks for watching.

Precious moments.
Lovely walk 🚶♂️nice to see flowers 💐 hanging baskets
They are working hard to upgrade the centre of Yeovil. Let's hope it works and brings people so that it can thrive again.
Thanks for sharing this great walk. It will take a while for all those units to be filled.
It is sad to see, but it seems to be similar in many parts of the country.
Great video. It’s so depressing to see the shops closed down, but I’m sure when you visit next year there will be new businesses open. The council have done a great job with the planting and gardens. Some good Georgian/Victorian buildings there. Have a good weekend, keep cool.
Spent the weekend in Lee on the Solent. Great weather there. On my way back to Yeovil now.
Enjoyed this video, watched it on the TV. Savannah is just a gorgeous baby x
She really is.
Years since I was in Yeovil - doubt I'd recognise it anyway!! No doubt a lovely day with Savannah - aren't they lovely at that age.
Yeovil is not exactly on the tourist map, more a place you pass by on the way to the south coast. Loving being with the grandchildren.
My hometown. But you have missed a true hidden gem of a restaurant, and you passed by the sign in your video. The blue sign 'union street brasserie'. Gorgeous family friendly restaurant with beautiful decor and courtyard. Combine this with Ninesprings and you would never know you're in Yeovil. Come and visit us sometime 😊
Union Street Brasserie is now on our to do list for Yeovil. And Ninesprings is another place our daughter tells us to visit.
I love Union Street, have been quite a few times. Will make sure my parents come and try it 😊x
@@serenascaife9372 We'll just have to go then.
Thanks for the recommendation, we called in today for lunch and really enjoyed it... video to follow.
Can't wait to see vid. Shame that I missed you today. I'm doing a play at the swan theatre and am very busy with that this week. So glad you enjoyed!
Such a Shame what happened to businesses because of the pandemic.. so many restaurants closed where I live it’s heartbreaking 🤗
There seems to be a lot of infrastructure work going on in the centre. Hopefully, when that is completed they can start to rejuvinate the area. May take a while though.
@@SteveandAnitainMallorca took them long enough to do 100yrds of pavement from nat west to Tesco. Farce
Business rates finished many retailers off before covid. Glover's walk was virtually empty in 2019
Ahh dw about that. The world starts again. All in time. Always a positive
Think the plant is Sedum spectabile Autumn Joy
I'll pass that on to Anita.
@7.00 work on that bit has stopped for weeks. What is the town's chamber of commerce doing about it?
Still lots of work to do.
You should go and watch a Yeovil Town Pre season game at Huish Park !!
Now there's a thought.
Don't know Yeovil but been to Cricket St Thomas outside of Chard and some beautiful countryside around there
Somerset is a beautiful county.
@@SteveandAnitainMallorca it is just a shame like a lot of the towns in the UK that out of town shopping seems to have killed the centres, don't seem to notice it so much in your videos in Majorca
@@grahamtowler1761 One difference in Mallorca is that the street markets are still very popular with the locals, as well as the tourists.
But nah it’s so weird to see that
Edit: I literally saw my house 🫣
Surprising what you can find in our videos
So crazy!
Someone just recommended to me moving here from London, I think I'll skip it.
There are some very nice villages close by.
