- Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor (8 December 1966 - 26 July 2023) was an Irish singer, songwriter, and activist. Her debut studio album, The Lion and the Cobra, was released in 1987 and achieved international chart success. Her 1990 album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, was her biggest commercial success, selling over seven million copies worldwide. Its lead single, "Nothing Compares 2 U", was honoured as the top world single of the year at the Billboard Music Awards.
Consistently, O'Connor drew attention to issues such as child abuse, human rights, racism, organised religion, and women's rights. During a Saturday Night Live performance in 1992, she tore up a photograph of Pope John Paul II to protest against abuse in the Catholic Church, sparking controversy. Throughout her musical career, she openly discussed her spiritual journey, activism, socio-political viewpoints, and her experiences with trauma and struggles with mental health.
After converting to Islam in 2018, she adopted the name Shuhada' Sadaqat while continuing to perform and record under her birth name.
On 26 July 2023, O'Connor was found unresponsive at her flat in Herne Hill, South London, and confirmed dead at the age of 56.The cause of death was not stated. The following day, the Metropolitan Police reported that O'Connor's death was not being treated as suspicious. On 28 July, the coroner in London said that the date of her death was still unknown. Her date of death was marked as 26 July upon her burial at Dean's Grange Cemetery on 8 August.
A private funeral was held on 8 August in Bray, County Wicklow. It was attended by the president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. O'Connor's family invited the public to pay their respects at the seafront where the funeral cortege passed. Thousands attended bearing signs and tributes.

There are many flowers on her grave they may not be visible but they are there in there millions.
Any body that doesn't have any sympathy for her must be a real piece of work! Live her life and see how YOU feel after all that!
And don't get me started on religion, religion has caused more problems on this earth than anything else in human history. Disrespect for one another, unity for the human race and war, child abuse and common sense. What makes you think out of all the people in the world that your religion or god is the one, just shows that most of you are not very smart???
Look what's happening in the middle east as I speak, what is wrong with these people? Don't get me wrong about Sinead I think she just wanted to distance herself as far away as she could from her catholic upbringing as she could, and who wouldn't blame her?

She was messed up In the head and ruined her to own singing career except for like one song she.that made her known she didn't really do all that much

I had no idea of this beautiful strong and talented lady. I could never imagine loosing custody of one of my children let alone having to bury them. Her depression is very understandable and it is so sad that mental health is not treated with the same urgency and focus as physical health. RIP

Thank you for posting this visit and tribute to Sinead. I have been her fan since the release of her debut album. Being from her same generation, I think she was ahead of her time as an outspoken female artist, and sexism had a lot to do with why she had so many detractors when she would openly protest for the causes she believed in. I was lucky enough to see her on tour in 2019, ( in a theater right by my house in California )! She was amazing - her voice was as beautiful as ever, and her performance was so passionate and moving. I'll never forget how magical that show was - and how especially blessed I was to be there, not realizing she would be gone so soon.
There are some singers that can only sing a song a certain way and it's perfection. Sinead singing, nothing compares to you and as another few examples are, Harry Nilsson without you and Whitney Houston will always love you ❤
I prefer her performance of Mother by Pink Floyd.

Even if she had other children to live for, the one she lost, Shane, was the only one that was the most like her and who loved her unconditionally. You can't replace one child for the others. Me and my husband lost two out of three.

When we there in Ireland a few months ago, the tour bus we were on was playing different Irish artists including Sinead. What came to mind then was the wonder in how she was doing since it has been in the news that she was not well after the death of her son. A month later, she was found dead. Rest in peace to a wonderful individual and thanks for this lovely tribute.

I'm glad the cemetery removes the flower's. I had to clean up after my Mother's funeral. It wasn't fun! Question, is it disrespectful to clean up faded artificial flower's from other graves? 😢 It just seems disrespectful to see Christmas arrangements that are clearly from last year still on graves sun bleached & dry rotted.
