- The H Series Statesman was General Motors-Holden’s response to fierce competition in the luxury car market. With the Ford LTD, Chrysler by Chrysler, Mercedes Benz S-Class and Jaguar XJ all competing for attention, the 1970s Statesman HJ, HX and HZ Caprice model was a highly credible alternative in Australia. Now increasingly rare, enjoy this magnificent 1976 HX Statesman Caprice survivor car.

Absolutely beautiful car, best looking statesman made by GM Holden.
Indeed, Chief Engineer George Roberts...he who insisted that every Holden from HQ to HX had vague sloppy slow steering, wallowing ride, painfully inadequate braking stability, and rode like a Cadillac.
Fortunately this was his last effort before being replaced by Peter Hanenberger, and RTS suspension.
Overnight, full size Holdens rode, handled and stopped properly, all the while with the style and class of the Statesman's.
Thanks for the upload 😁👍
I'm surprised that there were so few made. And with the demise of GMH these must be now be very collectible. And this one looks very tidy and original. Very nice.
Quite a few De Viljes about. Dont see many Caprices. Went 2 QLD & back in one yrs ago. Beautifull
Mmmm those cracked chassis
That was the same bloke that was in the HQ Statesman adds. Much has been said about the Fairlane and it's dominance in the market. The Chrysler too got a lot of attention because of it's towering performance and smooth Torqueflite transmission. Looks are a personal thing but I reckon the Statesman was far better looking than either of those. Facts from the day also suggested that it's standard of finish and build quality were of the stuff that Ford and to a lesser extent Chrysler could only dream about.
Yes they were a superior fit and finish, and so much more stylish compared to the equivalent Ford or Chrysler.
