Great game by both players. I'm a bit surprised that MbL didn't press on with the skirmishers. Maybe he was fearing an El Dorado eagle rush that never materialized?
The Mayans are from southern Mexico, Guatemala and Belize, so they're from North and Central America (and Central America is still considered part of North America). The only properly South American civilization in the game are the Incas.
From Wiki: Mesoamerica is a historical region and cultural area that begins in the southern part of North America and extends to the Pacific coast of Central America, thus comprising the lands of central and southern Mexico, all of Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, and parts of Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The term Mesoamerica literally means "middle America" in Greek. "Mesoamerica" is broadly defined as the area that is home to the Mesoamerican civilization, which comprises a group of peoples with close cultural and historical ties. The exact geographic extent of Mesoamerica has varied through time, as the civilization extended North and South from its heartland in southern Mexico.

@@cfban fair, I'd imagine that's a common misconception to the casual AoE viewer

Mexico and some parts of Central America were also called mesoamerica. Therefore, mesocivs because the flourished around that region
