  • You can propagate a snake in water by taking a leaf cutting and putting it inside a glass of water. Start by cutting a leaf off of the mother snake plant. After you have cut the leaf off the plant, you can cut it into multiple cuttings or treat it as a single leaf cutting. Add 1-2” of water in a cup and add your snake plant cutting to the water
After 2-3 months you can expect your snake plant cutting to start growing some roots. Once the roots of your cutting are around 1-3” inches long you should plant them in soil. Once the cuttings are in soil you should try to make sure the soil doesn’t dry out too much because those roots are still demanding a lot of water.
This is a super easy method to propagate the snake plant because the new leaf cuttings are wanting lots of water. By putting the cuttings in water it ensures they receive that high demand of water. Eventually the cutting will probably want to be in a soil pot. The snake plant can live long-term and water, but we have found that these plans prefer to be in a fast drying cactus mix soil.
