Magic could do it all since his college days,he was simply asked to score more because of Kareem aging,he could score at will if he wanted to,but he had a greater job to do than simply being a volume scorer, that is to do the playmaking and be the orchestrator of The Showtime lakers.Reading and executing the right plays by involving everyone of his teammates in the offense. That wins u championships, not just going for individuals stats. The Tom Brady of basketball.
that magic hook shot was deadly..how is magic not considered as the best all time ??he could turn any possession into a fast break situation..noone else can do that..or come close to passing like him,,and he used 2 lead the league in steals...he literally played every position on the court at any given time in the game..noone has ever really come close to completely dominating every aspect of offensive and defensive play..
So anyway, Lakers would go on to Beat Seattle in the playoffs that year. Seattle actually had a decent roster but your going against prime Magic and Worthy, an up and coming AC Green, DPOY Cooper, and a Slightly sub prime sky hook. Riley felt this was the best Showtime team. I kinda liked ‘82 but ‘87 was gang busters.
I was a massive Lakers/Magic fan in the 80s and early 90s, but one thing I hated about Magic was his lack of effort on defense (especially against the fast break). Yes, he's the team leader and the point guard who didn't want to pick up fouls, but too often in games he hardly lifted a finger on transition defense.
+G Ryen had he not retired coz of HIV at the age of 32, he would have played 4 more years at top level and gone down with 23000 points, 13.000 assists and 6 titles
Magic Johnson is one of the greatest players of all time and as all players get older their athletic ability is not as great as when they had younger legs what player you know defense got better as they got older
@Λ We all get that you're trolling but, come on, choke artist? That's one of the most idiotic statements that I've come across. That's gross stupidity. Like really, something negative needs to happen to you for posting that remark.
@Λ Your statement is oxymoronic. You can't be one of the greatest players of all-time and greatest chokers of all-time. You can only be referencing 1984 Finals which doesnt even come close to devaluing what Magic accomplished throughout the course of his career and the impact he made on the league. Get off that whackass Cornball Maxwell bullshit. He's a nobody that seized a 5minutes of fame platform to run his mouth about a legend of whom is leaps and bounds beyond his playing capabilities. Magic committed some very uncharacteristic mental lapses during crunch time in that series but his statistical performance was quite solid. You should review his stat lines for that series. And, oh, are you white?
Damn Ana I don't think you understand how bad you disrespected the history, love, respect, showmanship, champions, and just the NBA game itself when you made that comment wow remember this Magic Johnson was so great at what he did if he wouldn't have pulled his hamstring in 1989 game 2 of the finals no disrespect to the Pistons but he would have been a 6 time champion and probably could have retired in a 9 year career
Chick Hearn was a gem of an announcer … LA fans were lucky to have that guy..
I can watch his highlights all day honestly
Me too. He just plays so smooth
Long live Magic Johnson
Magic was just doing it all in this one, great post.
Never been a greater player.
Magic was best point guard ever!
Best version of Magic hands down, 1987

The best offensive player in NBA History
Magic's junior hook was lethal!
3:32 WOW
AC Green and Soul Glo baby
Showtime Laker away games were more competitive and fun to watch, their home games were usually blowouts bye the 3rd quarter.
My influence
please add more of the Magic Man!

And he was the world's greatest teammate.
He's not considered the best of all time because he has 5 rings and Bill Russell has 11. Next question?
imagine magic running point and you have kd at the 2…my 2 fav players
Magic would avg 35 pts today. His hook would be automatic and he would be unstoppable in the paint.
🤦🏾♂️ nostalgia is one hellava drug
this lakers core was together for a long time by this point
I think this is the probably the best season that somebody not named Michael Jordan or LeBron James ever had.
Big Game 29 pts 8 bds

@Λ He wasn't a choke artist and liability on defense.
